For further enquires visit: www.absoluteclassics.co.uk Karine Georgian, Cello Karine Georgian continues to bring her wealth of experience performing around the world to the concert platform, having appeared with many of the leading orchestras and conductors of our time. Her repertoire encompasses more than forty concertos and a huge range of instrumental and chamber music. She has been associated with leading composers of our day, several of whom have written works for her. They include Alfred Schnittke (Hymn No. 4), Tigran Mansurian (Cello Concerto No. 2), Alexander Goehr (Cello Sonata, Op. 45), Dmitri Smirnov (Cello Concerto, premiered with the BBC Philharmonic in 1996), Howard Skempton, and Elena Firsova (Chamber Concerto No. 5). Soon after taking the First and Gold Medal of the Tchaikovsky International Competition in Moscow Karine Georgian appeared in New York's Carnegie Hall performing Khachaturian's Cello Concerto with the Chicago Symphony conducted by the composer, and a little later in Chicago gave with the same forces the US premiere of Khachaturian's Cello Rhapsody. She also gave the US premiere of Schnittke's First Cello Concerto in Carnegie Hall with the American Symphony Orchestra, and the Australian premiere of Britten's Cello Symphony with the Sydney Symphony. Karine Georgian is a founder member of the London Soloists Ensemble, which has just completed its second season as Associate Ensemble of St. John's Smith Square in London. Their recording for Naxos of the two piano quintets by Vaughan Williams was released in May last year to widespread critical acclaim. Last December Karine Georgian was honoured by the award of an Honorary Fellowship by the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.
