Another Great Geneva Lakes Boat Show Goes Down In History
The Blackhawk Chapter put together yet another smashing
Geneva Lakes Boat Show at the Abbey Resort in Fontana,
Wisconsin, the weekend of September 27th – 29th, 2007.
Over 65 boats were entered into the show and the crowd
loved them all!
The weekend started Friday morning with a tour of Black
Pointe Estate. Black Pointe Estate is a Queen Anne style
mansion featuring a nautical-themed, four-story, "crow's
nest" observation tower, which can be seen from many
points on the lake; the property also features post-civil warera furniture. It is included in the National Register of Historic Places. Participants were given the privilege of a ride
on Steam Yacht Louise for the tour. After a guided tour of
the property it was back on the Louise for a quick ride to
Gage Marine for lunch. A special thanks goes out to Gage
Marine for provided the group’s sack lunches. After lunch
participants were able to take a leisurely cruise of the lake
throughout the remainder of the day

Hello Fellow Blackhawk Members, summer is over and we are all
sadly taking the last runs around the lake in our beautiful wooden
boats. This has been a very great year for our club, the workshops, the shows, and many new boats getting on the water for
our members.
We have just completed our Geneva Lake Show and it was great.
We had a terrific turnout, the show committee worked very hard to
have things run smoothly, and there were many beautiful boats to
admire and enjoy.

PRESIDENTS MESSAGE
Thanks again to all the volunteers that helped, the show committee, the participants from near and far, the beautiful boats, and
Mother Nature for the beautiful weather.
Visitors got to see the new Gage-Hacker, the Coleman family’s
new boat, the Nenemoosha, the Bronc’s and their Swedish boat,
and the Cartner’s restored 1951 Chris Craft Super Deluxe Semi
Enclosed Cruiser. A big thank you goes out to Larry Larkin for the
boat rides on the Sea Lark and the United States Post Office for
commemorative stamps of wooden boats.
A special thank you goes out to all the ladies behind the scenes of
our show that in my opinion do all the real hard work, while the
boys just talk. Thank you to Kathi, Kathy, Kathy, Cindy, Karen,
Lisa, Marcia, Bonnie, Vicki and all the other fine ladies that made
things work.
Thank you to all the donors of the door prizes, raffle prizes, auction items, and to all the buyers of the raffle tickets, and bidders at
the auction. Guys, the spa package was really, really great!
This issue of the Smoke Signal is devoted to our show, and the
beautiful pictures. These pictures and all the others are on the
website for your viewing and downloading pleasure.
We have our annual fall dinner in a few weeks and I urge all to
attend to visit, chat, and reminisce about the past year. We will
also have our fall elections. The registration is in this issue,
please come one, come all.
It has been a great two years for me as the club president and this
fall you will have a new board and a new club president. I wish the
new board success, and pledge my ongoing support and help in
the future.
I urge all of our members to find a niche to get involved, either
with the workshops, boat tours, shows, and last but not least, the
newsletter. We all want to hear your stories, so please do not be
shy. If you have difficulty writing, let us know, and we will help.
The club is for everyone to enjoy and get more involved. It is fun,
and bring the kids. Personally, I thank all the members that have
taken an interest in my son and taught him many skills in the boating world. Thanks Gary, Ted, Ron, Dean, Larry and Walter!

16th Annual Minocqua Boat Show 2007

Sixteen years ago, Gordon Moore decided to share his love for wooden boats and cars with the general public and organized
the first Minocqua Boat Show. Every year since then, Bosaki’s Boathouse has welcomed a fleet of woodie boats for the Annual Antique Boat show benefiting Multiple Sclerosis.
In recent years the woodie experience has been expanded to include classic woodie automobiles, and both aspects of the
show have continued to grow year by year. The local Chamber of Commerce and the Bosacki’s staff have helped Gordon
and his family to make this a consistently enjoyable weekend.
This year’s events again opened with the traditional parade of classic boats for the Friday night Min-Aqua Bats ski show.
Each boat and crew was individually recognized as they cruised past the grandstand. Early Saturday morning, (and a beautiful morning, I might add) the Bosacki’s docks and grounds began to fill with about 40 boats. Throughout the afternoon, the
docks were filled with the sounds of live music performed by Head Over Heels. By the end of public viewing in late afternoon, the boaters were quite anxious to get out and get some spray on their faces, cruising the delightful Minocqua Chain
and soaking up one of the finest Northwoods weekends in recent memory. For those of us accustomed to the more congested
and less pristine waters of Northern Illinois / Southern Wisconsin, this is always a treat.
The public viewing continued through early Sunday afternoon, concluding with Gordon hosting the Awards Ceremony, with
awards being presented to the following:

Gordon’s “Special” award went to Phil Samon for his efforts staffing the brats & refreshments concession, proceeds
from which also went to the MS fund. Phil and his helpers did an outstanding job of promoting their wares in highly entertaining fashion.
The auto exhibit started a few years back as a side attraction with Gordon Moore’s beautiful 1948 Chrysler Town &
Country, and a couple others, and has grown over the years with the appearance of Cadillacs and Lincolns from the
1940’s and 50’s and other classics.
Recalling one of the stated goals of the show, this year’s event raised about $5550 for MS research. The other goals were
to share with the visiting public the beauty and craftsmanship of the classic woodies, and to have a great time. Success
on all fronts.
The Moore’s have already started planning for next year, so mark your calendar for July 25-27, 2008. See you there!

weekend.
Friday night participants gathered for hors d’oeurvres and
cocktails at Gordy’s Boat House. Capt. Crooner entertained everyone with nautical themed singing, dancing and
humor.
Saturday started early with Classic Boating Magazine doing a photo shoot out on the lake. The piers saw a steady,
flow of leisurely lookers taking in all kinds of history and
hearing great stories about the restoration process from
proud boat owners. A few boat club members were able to
show off their “new” boats this year, including Ted &
Cindy Cartner’s 1951 Chris Craft Super Deluxe Semi Enclosed Cruiser (winner of the Sharpest Arrow Award) .
How gorgeous!
The traditional “starting of the engines” and boat parade
were well attended as it gave participants the chance to
cool down from the day’s heat. What an awesome sight to
see 65+ antique and classic boats running in a pack on Geneva Lake!
Saturday night the participants enjoyed dinner and drinks
while we heard about the new Gage Hacker that Gage Marine displayed at the show. Bill Gage, Jr. spoke about the
design process of this new boat and shared some stories
about his family’s historic Lake Geneva marina and boat.
The club added an auction to the program this year and
several guests were able to walk away with some great
prizes from the club’s raffle and auction.
Sunday gave us more great weather to cap off the weekend.
The sun was shining, the lake was calm, and the antique
and classic boats were able to run free in the waves. Each
year, the vendor base at the show continues to grow and we
see more and more people coming out to share our passion
for antique and classic boats.
Thank you to the entire Geneva Lakes Boat Show Committee which includes Larry and Kathy Lange, Al & Kathy
Bosworth, Ted & Cindy Cartner, Matt & Lisa Byrne, Andy
Ievins, John Barrett and Steve Fleming. Special thanks to
all the members that volunteered throughout the weekend.
