Instructions:
Rinse the rice under running water. Place the uncooked rice,
chicken breast, onions, celery, carrots, garlic, bay leaves,
chicken broth, water, and poultry seasoning in a slow cooker.
Cover and cook on the high setting for 3-4 hours or on the
low setting for 7-8. In the last ½ hour of cooking, remove the
chicken from the slow cooker. Allow to cool slightly before
shredding using two forks.
What do I receive with my membership?

When the rice is done cooking, add the shredded chicken back into the slow cooker. Melt the butter and
oil in a saucepan. Add the flour and let the mixture cook for 1 minute. Whisk the mixture slowly while
adding in the milk. Continue to whisk until all lumps have dissolved. Allow the mixture to thicken and
become creamy.
Add this creamy mixture to the slow cooker. Stir to combine. Add additional water or milk to your
preference if the consistency is too thick. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Exclusive to Dartmouth Sportsplex Members
are many free classes, workshops, and seminars.
Take advantage of all we offer with your new
Dartmouth Sportsplex Membership!
Note: To make the soup richer and creamier, replace some or all of the milk with half and half. Keep in mind the soup will thicken as it sits. Leftovers should be kept refrigerated. Additional milk or
water may be added to adjust the consistency of the soup when reheating.

Need that extra push to join a group exercise class? Here are four reasons why you
should start participating in action-packed classes filled with warm smiles, great tunes
and an inspirational instructor!
STRENGTHEN YOUR HEART & LUNGS
Cardiovascular exercise delivers oxygen and nutrients to your tissues, helping the overall
circulation of blood through your heart and blood vessels. When your heart and lungs
are working better, you’ll find that you can approach your day with more energy and
enthusiasm.
GET BETTER SLEEP
We’ve all experienced that seemingly endless night trying to fall asleep. By amplifying your physical activity during the day, you’ll be able to fall asleep faster. Wake up
refreshed and face the day with improved concentration and an enhanced mood.
MANAGE YOUR WEIGHT
If you want to shed some extra pounds, you have to get off that couch and move your
body! By working out in a group environment with others who most likely share similar
fitness goals, you’ll be more inclined to keep up with your regime, helping you accomplish your weight goals.
MAKE FRIENDS
The gym is a wonderful, social place buzzing with energetic people. By consistently
heading to your group exercise classes, you’ll notice other regulars, start chatting before
and after class and foster good friendships. Make it a ritual to go out with a few people
from your group exercise class every week or two! Keep each other motivated to reach
your goals!

Why You Need To
Stop Exercising For Weight Loss
There’s a myth that is perpetuated
constantly by the media and even by
medical professionals. It’s the exercise
myth. It goes like this: “Exercise more,
and you can lose weight without
changing what you eat.” While there
are 200+ good reasons to exercise,
losing weight isn’t one of them. While
some people can and do lose weight
by exercise alone, research shows that
if your sole means of losing weight is
exercise, you are more likely to gain
than to lose.
It starts with the “I deserve it”
mentality. We tend to overestimate
the calories we burn during exercise,
but underestimate the calories in
the foods we consume. When we
have technology do the counting
(think of the calories display on any
cardio machine), the technology
does the same—overestimates
calories burned through exercise and
underestimates the calories in food.
The next reason people tend to gain
weight when they start to exercise
is because of the “eat less, exercise
more” approach, which stimulates
appetite. If you suddenly increase the
amount of exercise you do and reduce
your energy intake, your body thinks
something is going wrong and you’ll
start to feel hungrier all the time.
Another reason you may gain weight
is that you might compensate for
exercising by being more sedentary
the rest of the day. Where you might
normally be lightly active in the
evening, after an exercise session
you might feel that you deserve to
sit on the couch and watch television
instead.
If exercise isn’t going to help with
weight loss, what’s a person to do?
Firstly, recognize that your mentality
about what you“deserve”will change
based on how much you enjoyed your
exercise. If you did something you
thought was fun, there’s no need to
get a reward from a piece of cake—
the exercise was rewarding enough.
So find a way to be active that you
truly enjoy.
KETTLE BELL TECHNIQUE (6326)
STROLLER FIT NEW (6350-3)
Learn the fundamentals of using a kettle bell, proper posture, flexibility and
swinging technique. Suitable for beginner to advanced levels.
Are you returning to fitness, postpartum?
Or maybe looking for a fun activity to
do with your baby? This class is for you!
Combining exercises using resistance
bands, your stoller, your baby and hand
weights, it is designed for all fitness
levels to keep you active through the
winter months.
With Danyele Belliveau
Second, make changes to your
diet your first priority. Make small
changes first, and make sure they’re
ingrained habits before you move
on to your next new habit. Small
consistent new habits will help you
to lose more weight than making
sweeping changes that you’re only
able to sustain for a couple of weeks
or months. If you’re not sure where
to start, seek out advice from a
Registered Dietitian.

SUSTAIN YOUR BODY - Rush Hour (6350-2)
With Skyler Fines
Get ready for a fast paced series of progressive exercises. Rush Hour is a
training program created to give you an intense one-hour workout. Find
your intensity with the different levels (Blue, purple, gold, platinum, and
kryptonite), while coming out with knowledge and a workout you can do on
your own. You will burn a ton of calories, and bring out your inner athlete as
you become quicker, faster and more powerful.
Lastly, don’t forget that exercise is still
good for you. There are many reasons
to be physically active, and while
being active won’t necessarily speed
weight loss efforts, it can definitely
help maintain weight.
