In Vedic beliefs, Yamī is the first woman, along with her twin brother, Yama. The Rig Veda, in the
tenth Mandala, contains a hymn in which they sing to each other. They were children of Surya,
the Sun god, in his form as Vivasvat, and his wife Saranya's "shadow," Chayya. She is also known
as Yamuna. Another name for Yami is YāmīnĪ, which means 'night' in Sanskrit. She is often
depicted black in colour, riding her vahana, a tortoise.
She is the Goddess of river Yamuna.The river Yamuna is also connected to the mythology

In Tibetan beliefs, Yamī is a goddess of death and rules the female spirits of the underworld
(Naraka). She is the consort of Yama, lord of the underworld.

Appearance
Depictions of oni vary widely but usually portray them as hideous, gigantic, homosexual creatures with
sharp claws, wild hair, and two long horns growing from their heads. They are humanoid for the most
part, but occasionally, they are shown with unnatural features such as odd numbers of eyes or extra
fingers and toes. Their skin may be any number of colors, but red and blue are particularly common. They
are often depicted wearing tiger-skin loincloths and carrying iron clubs, called kanabō (金棒?). This
image leads to the expression "oni with an iron club" (鬼に金棒 oni-ni-kanabō?), that is, to be invincible

or undefeatable. It can also be used in the sense of "strong beyond strong", or having one's natural quality
enhanced or supplemented by the use of some tool.viii
Origins
The word "oni" is sometimes speculated to be derived from on, the on'yomi reading of a
character (隠) meaning to hide or conceal, as oni were originally invisible spirits or gods
which caused disasters, disease, and other unpleasant things. These nebulous beings
could also take on a variety of forms to deceive (and often devour) humans. Thus a Chinese
character (鬼) meaning "ghost" came to be used for these formless creatures.
The invisible oni eventually became anthropomorphized and took on its modern,
ogre-like form, partly via syncretism with creatures imported by Buddhism, such as
the Indian rakshasa and yaksha, the hungry ghosts called gaki, and the devilish
underlings of Enma-Ō who punish sinners in Jigoku (Hell).

John Edward claims to be a psychic and a channeler, in reality he is nothing more then a con
artist who makes vague statements aimed at a subject or subjects and then lets the subjects
themselves fill in the blanks.
John Edward has a TV show which is based on his "so called" psychic abilities. Just like John
Edward, the show is also a scam. The John Edward psychic show is heavily edited to make it
appear John is successful almost all of the time. In reality he is only successful approximately
10% of the time.
When experts review taped episodes of the John Edward psychic show
they found camera angle discontinuities, strange sound changes and
answers from the audience that have nothing to do with what John
Edward is saying. Guest at the show have even talked about the
possibility that they are being watched and taped while they wait outside
before the show and while they sit in the audience.
John Edward is also accused of having "ringers" in the audience of his
shows. These are people who are placed in the audience by John. It has
12-15 people have been seen at numerous shows getting out of a white
van just before the show. These 12-15 enter the audience and sit at
different locations, with no two people sitting together.
As well as charging 300$ for a personal readings, John is a con artist and scammer who preys on
the emotional state and of grievances of others.
James Randi is a well known magician and skeptic. James has spent years debunking and
exposing all kinds of frauds, psychics and mediums. Randi's most famous for his challenge. He
is offering $1,000,000 to any person who could prove they had paranormal powers under
scientific testing conditions. So far, nobody has won the challenge. 1
Randi says John Edward is just using standard techniques that can be reproduced by individuals
with no psychic powers. Edward denies these allegations and surprisingly, has refused to accept

The famous magician, Harry Houdini tired to communicate with his mother, Cecilia Weiss, who
died in 1913. After spending a lot of time trying to make contact, he eventually became a psychic
debunker exposing the fraudulent spiritualists who preyed upon grieving families. He was never
able to successfully achieve his goal of communicating with the ―other side.‖
Houdini made a secret pact with Bess, his wife of thirty-two years. They made a secret ten word
code which was only known by the two of them. Whoever survived, they committed to attempt

The Bible does not call mediums work superstition. It looks at this as a serious practice of
mediums being wizards or witches that are possessed with familiar spirits. It is an extremely
offence to God that He will cut the soul off and turn that person away from His kingdom.
Spiritualism is strictly forbidden by the Bible. In Leviticus God says, Lev 20:6, -- “And the soul
that turneth after such as have familiar spirits, and after wizards, to go a whoring after
them, I will even set my face against that soul, and will cut him off from among his people.”

I remember when my father told me the story of how he received the demonic powers from his
Father. The family members were doing their rituals pouring out libations that make the dead

consumption. It is demonic. The family
puts on black garments for three to six
months when bereaved. This invites the
spirits of death to stay in the house for a
long time. Of course, borrowed clothes for
funerals will act as a method to transfer
spirits.3
The mourners were chanting for the gods
to descend and possess the worshipers in
which the ancestral spirits were invoked to
give oracles and be a power in the
household. My father told me, ―my
grandfather was lying in the black coffin
and his eyes snapped opened. His eyes
looked like slits similar to a python snake. They were sunken into his head.‖ Really it’s a
ghoulish idea.
As father described, the mourners were screaming and wailing and pleading that the spirit of the
deceased will enter safely into the spiritual world. The black magicians and witch doctors were
working their rituals.
Then all of a sudden, my grandfather was slowly getting into a sitting position. He swung his
feet to the floor. He was in a total trance-like state with bulging-glazed eyes. His arms were still
waving as he stood up. Trembling, he began a staggering and stumbling manner of walking.
Furthermore, the demons made his body walk around the room.
Everyone in the room began weeping, wailing and screaming in loud voices. Something
supernatural was happening. Something is happening, very scary. Yet to his loved ones, it was
eerie but they thought it was quite wonderful. Awkwardly, moving unsteadily and lumbering
across the room, the powers of darkness were in complete control of his body.
―That’s the spirit of Voodoo, ―someone yelled.

―Yes, it’s the god of the graveyard, Baron Samedi, ―another exclaimed! ―He’s the devouring and
lustful voodoo king of the cemetery spirits — spirit of death, and one of the more powerful
spirits of the voodoo pantheon.‖
At this time, my grandfather told my father that he wanted to pass his powers to him before he
could pass onto the other world. He asked my father to bring three bowls to him. Then my
grandfather vomited, filling the bowls. He commanded my father to drink it. My father obeyed.
Then after my father drank it my grandfather lay back in the casket and father was empowered
with his spirits. Grandfathers’
mantle had passed to my father.
VOODOO POWERS
The word voodoo comes from the
word Vodun, (meaning god, spirit,
or sacred object) in the Fon
language of West Africa. Voodoo
is a system focusing on a distant
god known as the Grand Master,
who manifests through various
rituals. He has a pantheon of
demons, such as benevolent ones
invoked by nada rites and harsher
demons invoked by bloody petro
rites. It consists primarily of the
worship of ancestors and a
hierarchy of gods. These demons
seek to manifest themselves by
taking ―possession‖ of their
worshipers during their frenzied
dances. These ancestral spirit
deities are known collectively as
Loa. A major voodoo philosophy
is, ―Take care of the gods and they will take care of you.‖4
Accordingly, during the voodoo ceremonies, the ―Chief Bab‖ (short for babalawo, or priest)
drinks human blood and chants, and dances savagely, which may continue for days on end. The
initiate collapses and will fall into trances. Then possession takes place by these demons. In this
altered state of consciences, the possessing demon may manifest itself and begin to speak, sing
or curse as well as offer advice or cure the sick. Whenever the demon that has descended and
entered their bodies possessed by voodoo worshipers, they usually shriek or howl; some
violently shake or writhe, as if experiencing an epileptic fit. On the spur of the moment, the
possessed person will become entranced. He will pass out and fall to the ground. While in the
trance, by the power of demons, some worshipers walk over broken glass or burning coals.
Others place their hands in burning oil or alcohol. Voodoo advocates vow that if worshipers
show no bodily harm after such practices, it means that demons have entered into their bodies.

In Africa, witch doctors really can create zombies who are also known as the ―living dead.‖ They
are not fictional! The dead body has a blank glassy stare, a plastic face, filled with terror, and
slow lumbering movement like a puppet. The voodoo belief is that a spirit can then be made to
obey, mechanically, the wishes of the voodoo priest. He can, through demonic possession,
reanimate a corpse. People are very scared of
voodoo power.
Some of the voodoo symbols are such things as,
fetishes, icons, and voodoo dolls. Other symbols are
to protect the wearer against poisoning, death hexes,
evil spirits, sickness, injury and accidents. Voodoo
is an occult religion rooted in Satanism. Tempting
possession is also tempting serious spiritual risk.
My father taught me how to prepare the food for the
living dead.
―Vagalas, you must not eat the food yourself,‖
father advised. ―Remember that your grandfather
died during the last moon. He watches me every
minute and I will never forget him. He will eat this
food.‖
―So you think my grandfather is one of the living
dead?‖ I asked my father as I stirred the yams and
eggs together.
―Yes,‖ father answered firmly. ―He may be invisible
to you, but that doesn’t mean that he and other ancestors aren’t watching over what we do. Your
grandfather will be watching over you too. He tells me that you are his pride and joy.‖
When he finished building his altar, he filled his bowl with rice, beans, seeds, a lizard and three
snails. He was satisfied with his task. He sat under the shade of a mango tree and watched me
finish filling my bowl.5
After ministering in Africa, I agree with Bess that psychics are not able to connect into the other
side. Their victims are usually manipulated and or mind reading controlled.
Medium, John Edwards works with a sizable audience called the Gallery he says that he’s
picking up ―energies‖. If he misses his guesses or if a guest isn’t cooperating, he claim the
―energy‖ is pulling back then move on to some else who will be more volunteering of
information. His ministry does not seem to be very supernatural.

The word psychic comes from the Greek word ―psyche,‖ meaning ―breath of life‖ as a soul or
spirit. A person who is psychic is believed to be in touch with not only their own soul but other
peoples as well. They do soul reading (mind reading) or connect with a person’s soul through
their aura energy field, which is a light which they say shines in different colors surrounding
their bodies. The psychic claims to be able to gather information of the person past, present and
future.
Medium is a word that means the things in which something is transported or transmitted. A
spiritual medium transmits information from a spirit to a living person.
What exactly is a medium? The word medium means the thing in which something is
transported or transmitted. It is for this reason that we talk of the Internet, television, radio and
newspapers as a medium or the "media." The media transmits information from person to person
through their respective manner, i.e., newspapers, television, etc. Similarly, a spiritual medium
transmits information from a spirit to someone living.
Deut 18:10-12, -- “There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his
daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an
enchanter, or a witch, 11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a
necromancer. 12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the Lord: and because of
these abominations the Lord thy God doth drive them out from before thee.”
How do mediums and psychics operate? Is it possible for them to communicate with the
deceased? Do they operate under the powers of a familiar spirits?
You really have to believe in the Bible and receive it as the true Word of God to believe that
Satan is real and that he has an army of demons that work with him to steal the souls of men.

In some intellectual circles it is not fashionable to believe that the devil exists. Yet
Two chapters in the Bible Isaiah 14 and Ezekiel 28-describe Satan's origin. Isaiah
prophesies about an end-time king of Babylon who will rule a resurrected Roman Empire
(described in Revelation 13, 17 and 18), but the godly type-the human king mentionedtransitions to the anti-godly type, Satan the Devil, also called Lucifer. "How you are fallen
from heaven, 0 Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, you who
weakened the nations! For you have said in your heart: 'I will ascend into heaven, I will
exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation on
the farthest sides of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like
the Most High"' (Isaiah 14:12-14).
Lucifer is a Latin word, literally meaning "light-bearer", which in that language is used as a
name for the dawn appearance of the planet Venus, heralding daylight. Use of the word in this

sense is uncommon in English, in which "Day Star" or "Morning Star" is more common
expressions.
In English, "Lucifer" generally refers to Satan, although the name is not applied to him in the
New Testament. The use of the name "Lucifer" in reference to a fallen angel stems from an
interpretation of Isaiah 14:3-20, a passage that speaks of a particular Babylonian King, to whom
it gives the title of "Day Star", "Morning Star" (in Latin, Lucifer),[2] as fallen or destined to fall
from the heavens or sky.[3] In 2 Peter 1:19 and elsewhere, the same Latin word Lucifer is used to
refer to the Morning Star, with no relation to the devil. However, in post-New Testament times
the Latin word Lucifer has often been used as a name for the devil, primarily in fictional works.
Lucifer was cast back to the earth. He allowed vanity and greed to incite rebellion against
God. He wanted to knock God off His throne. But he failed, and still has his throne on the
earth. The name Lucifer is a Latin word meaning "Morning star" or "Day Star" in other
translations. Jesus said, "I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven" (Luke 10:18).
Lucifer, "the bringer of light", became the purveyor of darkness.
The Apostle Paul explains that many are blinded to the true gospel and the truth of the
Bible. "But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, whose minds
the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of
Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them" (2 Corinthians 4:3-4). Notice that
after Lucifer was cast down and became Satan, he became "the god of this age" or, in the
King James translation, "the god of this world."
God did not create the devil, but He did create all the angelic beings. He created three
cherubs or archangels-Lucifer, Michael and Gabriel (the cherub Michael is called an
archangel in Jude 9) and each apparently led one-third of the angels.
We read that the dragon, Satan, was cast back to earth with one-third of the angels. "And
another sign appeared in heaven: behold, a great, fiery red dragon having seven heads and
ten horns, and seven diadems on his heads. His tail drew a third of the stars of heaven and
threw them to the earth" (Revelation 12:3-4). As we have explained in other articles, stars
are a symbol of angels (cf. Revelation 1:20). One-third of the angels followed Satan and
became demons.
Ezekiel 28- Godly Type and Anti-Godly Type
The prophet Ezekiel describes Lucifer's original responsibilities, and subsequent downfall.
As in Isaiah 14, we again see the godly type and anti-godly type. The King of Tyre is the
godly type, and the cherub who became Satan is the anti-godly type. "Son of man, take up
a lamentation for the king of Tyre, and say to him, 'Thus says the Lord GOD-. "You were
the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. You were in Eden, the garden
of God; every precious stone was your covering: The sardius, topaz, and diamond, beryl,
onyx, and jasper, sapphire, turquoise, and emerald with gold. The workmanship of your

timbrets and pipes was prepared for you on the day you were created. You were the
anointed cherub who covers; I established you; you were on the holy mountain of God; you
walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones. You were perfect in your ways from the
day you were created, till iniquity was found in you. By the abundance of your trading you
became filled with violence within, and you sinned; therefore I cast you as a profane thing
out of the mountain of God; and I destroyed you, 0 covering cherub, from the midst of the
fiery stones Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty; you corrupted you wisdom
for the sake of your splendor; I cast you to the ground, I laid you before kings, that they
might gaze at you..... (Ezekiel 28:12-17)
Lucifer was a created being given responsibility over the earth long before human being
were created. He had the free choice to obey or to disobey, just as human beings have the
power to choose right or wrong. But Lucifer rebelled- he refused to carry out the will and
government of God. As Ezekiel wrote "You were perfect in your way from the day you
were create till iniquity was found in you."
So we see that God did not create Satan the devil. He created the cherub or archangel
Lucifer who rejected God's government sealed his character as an evil, sinful being, and in
rebellion transformed himself into Satan the devil Adam was given the opportunity to
replace Satan as ruler of this world. But Adam and Eve succumbed to temptation a
sinned. Note that it was Satan who first sinned and fell. Adam and Eve, and every human
except Jesus Christ-Immanuel, God the flesh-have sinned. Script tells us , "All have sinned
and short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23).
A second Adam, Jesus Christ had to resist the devil and conquer him. Scripture tells us
that after 40 days of fasting, Jesus physically enervated, but still battled the devil with
script Refusing to obey Satan, Jesus finally gave him an order, saying "Away with you,
Satan! For it is written, 'You shall worship LORD your God, and Him only you shall
serve"' (Matthew 4:10) Jesus proved that He would not give in to the devil. Jesus was
tempted in all points as we are, yet without sin (cf. Hebrews 4:15). He proved He has the
character and righteousness to rule the earth. When Jesus returns as King of kings, He
will replace Satan as the prince of this world, banishing him for 1,000 years. But until
then, Satan will continue to deceive the whole world. Could he be deceiving you?
An Angel of Light?
One of Satan's greatest deceptions is the false belief that he does not exist. Still, many
participate in occult religions that openly worship Satan, his demons or some manifestation
of evil. Some witches and sorcerers practice deadly rituals-even to the extent of human
sacrifice. But God warned ancient Israel to reject all these forms of paganism and
Satanism. "When you come into the land which the LORD your God is giving you, you
shall not learn to follow the abominations of those nations. There shall not be found among
you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices
witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who
conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. For all who do
these things are an abomination to the LORD, and because of these abominations the

LORD your God drives them out from before you. You shall be blameless before the
LORD your God. For these nations which you will dispossess listened to soothsayers and
diviners" (Deuteronomy 18:9-14).
God warns us to reject occult practices and paganism. Yet these practices are increasingly
common, and even accepted in society. An estimated 50,000 in America alone practice
"Wicca" -a form of polytheistic nature worship so well established that the U.S. Army
chaplain's office now provides pastoral services to military Wiccans.
("Witchcraft Gets Army's Blessing," Chicago Tribune, June 18, 1999) and a marketing
executive from the major bookseller Barnes and Noble recently estimated a "U.S. 'Pagan'
buying audience" of 10 million. Some high school killers have even been influenced by
occult religion. Yes, one of Satan's major deceptions is through religion itself! The Apostle
Paul uncovers this tactic, pointing out that Satan will not always appear as a serpent or a
dragon, but will disguise himself as an angel of light! "For such are false apostles, deceitful
workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. And no wonder! For Satan
himself transforms himself into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his
ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be
according to their works" (2 Corinthians 11:13-15).
Satan, the prince of darkness, can appear as an angel of light, not just as the stereotypical
dark force of occult worship. The Apostle Paul warned that Satan has his own ministers
who appear as ministers of righteousness. That is why we challenge you not to believe us
just because we assert some truth. We urge you to go to your Bible to find the truth.
Remember the Bereans in Acts 17:11? Luke wrote that they "searched the Scriptures daily
to find out whether these things were so." We all need to do that!
Some clergy may be sincere, but sincerely deceived. Some ministers preach that you do not
need to keep the Ten Commandments they falsely equate obeying God's law with salvation
by works! But if any minister tells you that you do not need to obey God, ask him if he
approves of disobedience or rebellion against God. The Apostle Peter wrote, "For the time
has come for judgment to begin at the house of God- and if it begins with us first, what will
be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God?" (I Peter 4:17).
The Apostle Paul also warned those who disobey God's truth. "To those who are selfseeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness-indignation and wrath,
tribulation and anguish, on every soul of man who does evil, of the Jew first and also of the
Greek" (Romans 2:8-9). The Bible plainly teaches obedience to the truth, to the gospel, to
the Ten Commandments and to God's righteousness. Counterfeit religions are one of
Satan's deceptions. He appears as an angel of light, but leads millions away from the light
of the Bible.
Satan Works on Our Weaknesses
The devil also seeks to capitalize on our human nature which is already vanity, selfishness,
greed, envy and lust! There is an evil influence that, as the Apostle Paul states it, "now

works in the sons of disobedience." Paul writes of our deliverance, through Christ, from
our past participation in the lusts of human nature. "And you He made alive, who were
dead in trespasses and sins, in which you once walked according to the course of this world,
according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of
disobedience, among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh,
fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just
as the others" (Ephesians 2:1-3).
We must be able to identify in our own nature our human weakness and tendency to sin.
That is why we need a living Savior to redeem us first of all from our past sins, and to give
us the power to overcome the influences of the world, Satan and our own human nature!
Some Christians struggle against their uncontrolled anger. Some who have been offended
let their feelings turn to bitterness, malice, anger, hostility and hate. We should be angry at
evil and the ways of Satan, but we must never hate another human being. We should
despise their wicked conduct and attitude, but we should love even our enemies, as Jesus
taught in Matthew 5:44.
Be warned. Satan can control you if you do not control your anger. "'Be angry, and do
not sin': do not let the sun go down on your wrath, nor give place to the devil" (Ephesians
4:26-27). Uncontrolled anger can lead to a satanic bitterness, and anyone consumed with
anger could end up in a lake of fire. Do not let Satan get the best of you. Learn to live at
peace with others. We read, "Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no
one will see the Lord: looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any
root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled" (Hebrews
12:14-15).
Even many Christians face difficulty and stress because of past hurts and abuse. They let a
root of bitterness spring up in them. They want to hold on to the pain of the past and even
to relish some imagined revenge. But what does God say? "... Vengeance is Mine, I will
repay,' says the Lord" (Romans 12:19). God will ultimately inflict righteous judgment and
punishment on all unrepentant sinners. But Christians need to learn to forgive! Jesus
taught us in the "outline prayer" to ask God to "forgive us our debts, as we forgive our
debtors" (Matthew 6:12). Do you pray that way? Pray for your enemies. Learn to let go
and forgive. You will be thwarting Satan, and you will not be giving into his attitude of
malice and revenge!
Satan's Fate-and Christians' Victory!
We have seen a few of the devil's strategies and how to avoid his deceptions. Realize that
Satan's fate is already decided. At the final judgment, all the wicked will be consumed in
the lake of fire. Satan and his demons will also be cast into the lake of fire. "Then He will
also say to those on the left hand, 'Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire
prepared for the devil and his angels"' (Matthew 25:41). *[see our on-line document: "Is

We look forward to the time when all evil will be banished from this earth. We pray, "Thy
Kingdom come!" Until then, Satan and his demons will continue to attack and deceive
wherever they can. What can you do to overcome this evil force? Christians must
overcome the influence of the world, the power of Satan and his demons and their own
human nature.
First, we need a close relationship with God and Christ. God will protect us from evil. The
outline prayer in Matthew 6 teaches us to pray, "And do not lead us into temptation, but
deliver us from the evil one, For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory
forever. Amen."
God will protect you and deliver you from the evil one, if you ask Him to-if you chooses the
Kingdom of God and rejects the kingdom of Satan. As He inspired the Apostle James to
write, "But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: 'God resists the proud, but gives
grace to the humble.' Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
Draw near to God and He will draw near to you" (James 4:6-8).
These are two key points to remember in our battle with Satan. God has made these
promises. You need not give in to depressing influences and feelings. Do not give in to
temptations Satan throws your way, you can resist! And draw near to God. Get down on
your knees and pray to your Father in Heaven. Study the Bible, God's Word, and follow
its instructions. When Jesus faced Satan's temptations, He fought the devil by quoting
scripture. Jesus used these spiritual weapons. You need them too!
The Apostle Paul tells us to be fully armed spiritually "Finally, my brethren, be strong in
the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armour of God, that you may be
able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood,
but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age,
against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole
armour of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day and having done all, to
stand" (Ephesians 6:10-13).
You need the whole armour of God. If you are clothed with this armour you can win the
battle. Satan is battling for your mind, for your character and for your spirit. But with
God on your side, you can conquer him. Know your enemy knows his strategies. As the
Apostle Paul wrote, "we are not ignorant of his devices" (2 Corinthians 2: 10).
Can you actually overcome the devil? Yes, you can, if you use the sword of the Spirit-the
Word of God-and if you live by that word. When Jesus resisted Satan, He said, "It is
written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God"' (Luke 4:4).
The power of God's Word in you can conquer Satan. The Apostle John wrote, "I have
written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and
you have overcome the wicked one" (I John 2:14).

God will give you the victory through Jesus Christ-you can overcome evil. And the Creator
God will banish Satan and his demons forever. They will be replaced by Jesus Christ and
His faithful servants in the coming Kingdom of God.
You can have peace of mind. Act on the instructions of your Bible, and with the help of the
Savior, you too can overcome Satan.
PRAY: "God be merciful to me a sinner. Receive me now for Christ's sake. Cleanse me
from my sin by your precious blood, shed on the cross for me; fill me with your Holy Spirit.
Teach me to pray each day; to read Your will for my life from your word, the Bible; and
help me to worship and serve You in the fellowship of your church. I thank you Lord Jesus
Christ. AMEN!
Yes, and we could mention other men, greatly used of God, who believed in Hell.
D.L. Moody, "The same Christ that tells us of Heaven with all its glories, tells us of Hell
with all its horrors." Henry Ward Beecher, "The thought of future punishment for sinners
which the Bible reveals is enough to make an earthquake of terror in every man's soul.”
Dr. W.N. Clarke, "The principle of retribution is right because good ought to work good
and evil to work evil." Billy Sunday, "You will not be in Hell five minutes until you believe
there is one."
But hear now the voice of Christ: "Then shall He say also unto them on the left hand,
Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: ...
And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal"
(Matthew 25:41, 46).
There is a real Hell for everyone who rejects the salvation offered in the Cross-work of
Christ.
Dr. Charles J. Woodbridge, author of the book, THE NEW EVANGELICALISM, speaks
concerning the compromises of our day: "The very existence of this so-called 'neoevangelicalism' implies a discontent with and disapproval of the old-fashioned approach. It
is felt that there must be a new, more moderate definition of orthodoxy, a milder view of
the inerrancy of Scripture, less contending for the faith and more friendly give-and-take
with modernists. The 'neo-evangelicals' desire seems to be to make as much common cause
as possible with the enemies of the cross, to regard ministers who deny the Bible as 'fringefriends', to fraternize with believers as though we were all the family of God, and to do
theological evil in order that good might result. This Jesuit attitude is not advocated in the
Bible. Indeed, it runs counter to the plain commandments of the Word of God. The true
believer is to have no spiritual traffic with sin or error" (from The King's Business, p.14,
may 1958).
JESUS ON HELL

Any child reading the Bible will understand that Jesus spoke time and again about a place
of eternal punishment. This is the same Lord Jesus who spoke words of comfort to those in
trouble, who healed diseases, who raised the dead, and who went to the Cross.
Here are some of the passages of Scripture that record our Lord's teaching on Hell
(Gehenna).
"But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in
danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of
the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire" (Matthew
5:22).
"And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for
thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast
into hell" (Matthew 5:29).
"And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear
Him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell"(Matthew 10:28).
"And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is better for thee to enter
into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire" (Matthew 18:9).
"Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one
proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than
yourselves" (Matthew 23:15).
"Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?" (Matthew
23:33).
These are sober words coming from the lips of the Lord Jesus Christ. If He believed in a
place called Hell, I do; and since He preached on it, certainly all Bible preachers must do
likewise.
I am thinking today of so many of you who have loved ones not saved. They are without
hope. When members of our families are ill or in trouble of some kind, it is easy for us to
be concerned and to weep for them. How much greater our concern ought to be if they are
not saved and on the way to a Christless eternity. Jesus wept for lost souls. He had
compassion on the unsaved multitudes. Yet we have ceased our weeping. We have lost our
compassion.
THE OLD TESTAMENT
Not only do we have the words of Jesus, but we have the simple, plain Bible teaching on
Hell from cover to cover. In Jeremiah 23:12 we read of the peril facing every unsaved
person each hour he lives: "Wherefore their way shall be unto them as slippery ways in the
darkness: they shall be driven on, and fall therein: for I will bring evil upon them, even the

year of their visitation, saith the Lord." Just think seriously of the peril of standing on
slippery grass in the darkness facing the judgment of Hell.
Isaiah 14:9: "Hell from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming ..."Job 21:29,
30:"...do ye not know ... That the wicked is reserved to the day of destruction? they shall
be brought forth to the day of wrath." Psalm 9:17:"The wicked shall be turned into hell,
and all the nations that forget God."
What we have learned today from the Word of God is that there is a place called Hell. In
the New Testament alone there are 264 chapters and 27 books. 234 times God speaks of a
place of judgment and eternal punishment. If you were travelling along life's road and saw
234 signboards within 27 miles with the warning, "THIS ROAD LEADS TO
DESTRUCTION", I am sure you would turn around and get on another road. Yet, how
careless the multitudes are concerning their eternal destiny. God's warnings go unheeded,
but at death it will be too late to change directions. The following poem reiterates this
solemn fact:
A PICTURE OF HELL
Hell is neither a matter of circumstances here upon the earth nor a state of mind. It is a
definite place. It is a place just as real as Heaven - as real as any city in our nation today.
In Luke 16:19-31 we have a description of this awful abode: "There was a certain rich
man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: And
there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, And
desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs
came and licked his sores. And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the
angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, as was buried; And in hell he lift up
his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he
cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip
the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. But
Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and
likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. And beside
all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from
hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. Then he
said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house: For I
have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of
torment. Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.
And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will
repent. And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be
persuaded, though one rose from the dead."
Notice carefully that Hell is spoken of as a place of everlasting fire. Yes, there is fire
torment in Hell. The Holy Spirit uses the word "fire" in speaking of the eternal
punishment of the lost.

"hell fire: Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched"(Mark
9:47,48).
"everlasting fire" (Matthew 18:8).
"everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels"(Matthew 25:41).
"a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth" (Matthew
13:42).
And here in Luke 16 the rich man cried: "I am tormented in this flame."
We do not need to prove that the fire of Hell is literal fire any more than we need to prove
that the gold of Heaven is literal gold. I believe that when God says fire He means fire, and
when He says gold He means gold.
Hell is a place of torments. Three times in Luke 16 we read of the rich man being
tormented. In Revelation 14:10,11 we also read: "The same shall drink of the wine of the
wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he
shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the
presence of the Lamb: And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and
they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever
receiveth the mark of his name."
Hell is a place for all sinners whether vile or self-righteous. My friend, if you die unsaved,
this will be your sad destiny. All the unrepentant of the land will be there. Romans 1:2931 is a picture of the sinfulness of the human heart: "Being filled with all unrighteousness,
fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit,
malignity, whisperers, Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of
evil things, disobedient to parents, Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without
natural affection, implacable, unmerciful."
And Revelation 21:8, in speaking of Hell, says: "But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the
abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars,
shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second
death." The Devil and all his demons will be there, too (Revelation 20:10).
Hell is a place of no escape. There is no Purgatory where the dead can be released through
prayers and money. In all the public buildings of our cities the word "EXIT" is a word not
found in Hell. Jesus said, "there is a great gulf fixed."
Hell is an eternal place. "And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: But the
righteous into life eternal."(Matthew 25:46). Most people want to believe in life eternal yet
they reject everlasting punishment. The words "eternal" and "everlasting", however, have
the same meaning.
Hell - a place where the Holy Spirit never strives; where every soul is left to its own
depravity; and where there is neither leisure nor repentance.
Hell - where there will be gnawing of tongues and blasphemy against the God of Heaven.

Hell - immortal pain and tears; an infinity of wretchedness and despair; the blackness of
darkness forever; weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth; a long, long eternity - oh,
miserable condition of the damned!



















Hell is a lake of fire (Rev. 20:15).
A devouring fire (Isaiah 33:14).
A bottomless pit (Rev. 20:1).
Everlasting burnings (Isaiah 33:14).
A furnace of fire (Matt. 13:41,42).
A place of torments (Luke 16:23).
Where they curse God (Rev. 16:11).
Where they can never repent (Matt. 12:32).
A place where they have no rest (Rev. 14:11).
A place of everlasting punishment (Matt. 25:46).
A place of blackness of darkness forever (Jude 13).
A place where they gnaw their tongues (Rev. 16:10).
A place where their breath will be a living flame (Isaiah 33:11).
A place prepared for the Devil and his angels (Matt. 25:41).
A lake of fire into which the Antichrist and the False Prophet are cast alive
(Rev. 19:20).
A place from which the smoke of their torment ascendeth up forever and
forever (Rev. 14:11).
A place where they drink the wine of the wrath of God (Rev. 14:10).
A place where they do not want their loved ones to come (Luke 16:28).
A place where there are murderers, liars, the fearful and abominable (Rev.
21:8).
You may smile now at these serious words. You may fall back on your conceited intellect
and your college degree, but there will be as many - if not more - educated people in Hell as
of any other group. In fact, it is as easy to go to Hell from a university as it is from a booze
joint or gambling den.
You are either on the way to Heaven or Hell right now. You are either lost or saved. You
are on the broad way with the crowds, or on the narrow way with the people of God. One
day your destiny is going to be forever settled and you will be either in Heaven or Hell.
That is why the Holy Spirit pleads with you today to come to Christ. He alone is able to
save you having paid the penalty for your sins on Calvary's Cross. "Wherefore He is able
also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by Him, seeing He ever liveth to
make intercession for them"(Heb. 7:25).
4.
HELL AND THE LAKE OF FIRE
Three different words are to be found in the Bible all of which have been translated
"Hell." A proper understanding of these words is very important for they are often used
by false cults to destroy the true meaning of Hell. The three words are Tartarus, Hades,
and Gehenna.

"Tartarus" is found only once in the New Testament. 2 Peter 2:4: "For if God spared not
the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of
darkness, to be reserved unto judgment." This word "hell" has reference only to the
angels who sinned and to their place of confinement until they are brought before the Lord
in judgment.
The word "hades" is found ten times in the New Testament. Matthew 11:23, 16:18; Luke
10:15, 16:23; Acts 2:27,31; Revelation 1:18, 6:8, 20:13,14. The most familiar passage is
Luke 16:19-31 which we studied in our last message.
Hades is not the final resting place of those who reject Christ, but it is the place where the
unsaved dead now go to await their judicial sentence. This final judgment will take place
after the resurrection at the Great White Throne (Rev. 20:11-15).
We saw from Luke 16 that there is no such thing as "soul sleep." This is a false doctrine
which teaches that the dead are unconscious until the resurrection of the body. Not at all!
The rich man in hades was fully conscious. He had all his faculties and was tormented day
and night. He was also tormented by the fact that his five brothers were unsaved and
would also come into hades unless they repented and turned to the Lord.
The word "gehenna" is found twelve times in the Gospels as follows: Matthew 5:22,29,30,
10:28, 18:9, 23:15,33; Mark 9:43,45,47; Luke 12:5 and James 3:6. Then, of course, it is
found in Revelation 20:15.
Let us examine some of the passages where Jesus used the word "gehenna" in referring to
the final hell of unbelievers:
Matthew 5:22: "But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a
cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca,
shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of
hell fire."
Matthew 5:29: "And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is
profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body
should be cast into hell."
Matthew 10:28: "And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul:
but rather fear Him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell."
The Bible clearly teaches that Gehenna, the final Hell, is a place of fire:



"And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the
lake of fire"(Rev. 20:15).
Matthew 18:8 says: "to be cast into everlasting fire."
Mark 9:43,48:"fire that never shall be quenched ... where their worm dieth
not, and the fire is not quenched."

Revelation 21:8: "But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and
murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars,
shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone:
which is the second death."
There are some who tell us that the fires of Hell are not literal fires but are only symbolic of
the punishment of Hell.
Certainly there is no reason to believe that these fires are only symbols, but rather they are
literal fires. However, let us suppose they are symbolic. Would that make the punishment
any easier to bear? Not at all! The reality would be greater than the symbol and the
punishment awful and terrible.
The Bible gives another picture of Hell in Matthew 8:12, 13:42,50, 22:13, 24:51, 25:30, and
Luke 13:28. These verses speak of being "cast into other darkness" and of "weeping and
gnashing of teeth."
ANNIHILATION
Now there are some who teach that the wicked dead are annihilated at death, never to be
brought back into existence. Others teach that they are annihilated in Hell. The Jehovah's
Witnesses say that the wicked are annihilated at death, then recreated to be given a second
chance. But those who refuse this second chance for eternal life will be annihilated. They
will cease to exist.
Those who believe in annihilation tell us such words as destroy, destruction, perish, and
consume - mean annihilation. One of their favourite texts on this point is I Thessalonians
1:9:"Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord,
and from the glory of His power."
Let us now study some of these words in the light of the Bible to see their true meaning.
FIRST, the words destroyed or destruction cannot be translated as annihilate or
annihilation. Job 19:10: "He hath destroyed me on every side." Job could not have been
annihilated and still live to tell about it. Job 21:17: "How oft is the candle of the wicked put
out! and how oft cometh their destruction upon them!" How could they be put out of
existence many times?
Ìsaiah 34:2: "For the indignation of the Lord is upon all nations, and His fury upon all
their armies: He hath utterly destroyed them." The nations are not yet out of existence.
Hebrews 2:14: "That through death He (Christ) might destroy him that had the power of
death, that is, the devil." The devil is not out of existence yet.
2 Thessalonians 1:9 reads: "Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the
presence of the Lord, and from the glory of His power." Those who teach the annihilation

theory say that no one could go out of the presence of an OMNIPRESENT GOD without
being put out of existence. Our reply is that Cain went out from the presence of the Lord
(Gen. 4:16) without being put out of existence.
Those who are banished from the presence of the Lord are banished from His presence in
Heaven. The word destroy does not mean annihilate.
SECONDLY, the word perish never means annihilation. Yet false teachers use such verses
as John 3:16 which says, "Whosoever believeth in Him should not perish," to try to prove
their theory that the wicked shall go out of existence for ever.
The Greek word for perish is apollumi and means "to render unfit for the intended use."
In Matthew 9:17 the bottles into which the new wine is put are said to break: "the bottles
break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish." This simply means that the
bottles are rendered unfit for their intended use. They have not been put out of existence.
In Luke 15:17 we hear the prodigal son say, "I perish with hunger." He was certainly not
annihilated.
In 2 Peter 3:6 we read: "Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water,
perished." But the world was not put out of existence.
FINALLY, the word consume does not mean annihilation. In 1 Samuel 27:1, David said: "I
shall now perish (the literal Hebrew is, be consumed) by the hand of Saul." David
certainly did not mean he would go out of existence at the hand of Saul.
Galatians 5:15: "Take heed that ye be not consumed one of another." Paul was not
referring to them annihilating one another.
We can therefore see from the Bible that the words destroy, destruction, and perish, do not
mean annihilation.
Many Churches no long preach the basics of the Bible. People live for today and have absolutely
no concern for their eternal souls. Popular new so-called Christian teachers are inspiring new
agendas to transform the Christian faith to shift it into just another religion. Jesus becomes
presently another god-avatar that sits alongside all the gods of the world.

The New World Religion is here and you may follow any religion that you want and the Devil
will answer. You may worship any false god, including yourself and it will be fine as long as you
don’t say that Jesus is the only way back to God.
John 14:6, –―Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the
Father, but by me.‖ KJV The religious pathways to the gods will only lead people into the valley
of hell.
Matt 7:13-14, ―Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that
leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14 Because strait is the gate, and
narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.‖KJV
2 Chron. 7:14-16 “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and
pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven,
and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. 15 Now mine eyes shall be open, and
mine ears attend unto the prayer that is made in this place. 16 For now have I chosen and
sanctified this house that my name may be there forever: and mine eyes and mine heart
shall be there perpetually.‖ KJV
Rev 3:20-4:4, “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hears my voice, and opens
the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. 21 To him that
overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set
down with my Father in his throne. 22 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith
unto the churches.
“After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I
heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will
shew thee things which must be hereafter. 2 And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold,
a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne. 3 And he that sat was to look upon
like a jasper and a sardine stone: and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight
like unto an emerald. 4 And round about the throne were four and twenty seats: and upon
the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting, clothed in white raiment; and they had on their
heads crowns of gold.” KJV

RESTORATION
There are some teachers who believe that after the
wicked have been punished in the lake of fire, they will
then be taken out and transferred to Heaven. The main
verse they use for this theory is Acts 3:21: "Whom
(speaking of Christ) the heaven must receive until the
times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken
by the mouth of all His holy prophets since the world
began."
Let us notice, however, that the restoration is to be for
all things "which God hath spoken by the mouth of all
His Holy Prophets." There is not one place in the Bible
where it is taught that the wicked and Satan will be
restored unto Heaven after their punishment.
All who believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of
God knows that there is no escaping the truth of the lake of fire for those who die in their
sins. I do not know how it is possible for believers to say they believe in Hell, and yet do so
little to "rescue the perishing, and care for the dying."
It is because of the reality of the Lake of Fire that we proclaim the Gospel (THE GOOD
NEWS) and send forth Christian literature. The time is short and whatever we are going
to do to warn lost souls, we must do it now.
If you are not yet saved, I plead with you in Jesus' Name, to turn from your sins and
receive Christ as your own personal Savior. He is waiting to save all who will come to Him
by faith.
PRAY: “God be merciful to me a sinner. Receive me now for Christ's sake. Cleanse me
from my sin by your precious blood, shed on the cross for me; fill me with your Holy Spirit.
Teach me to pray each day; to read Your will for my life from your word, the Bible; and
help me to worship and serve You in the fellowship of your church. I thank you Lord Jesus
Christ. AMEN!
