Red Shoe Shindig - Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kansas City
Red Shoe Shindig
-continued from Page 1The night continued with the Sponsor
a Family portion of the evening, which
raised more than $90,000. Sponsor
a Family allows guests to raise their
paddles in support of families served
by RMHC-KC from as broad of a range
of $10,000 to $70 - the cost of a week’s
stay for a family. This money goes
directly toward our operations budget
and keeps families together.
After Sponsor a Family, it was time for
the Live Auction. Our “Best of Live” raffle
was chosen and the winners picked the
Hilton Head, South Carolina trip. The
couple who donated the trip decided on
the spot to donate another week!
To top off the evening, guests kicked
up their red shoes to local sensation,
BaliRoot. It was a energetic and fun end
to an amazing night.
Our other 10 items were a huge hit, with
everything from a trip on a private plane
to a residence in Lake Arrowhead, Calif.
that went for $20,000, to a dinner by
Lidia’s Chef Cody Hogan in the winner’s
home. With the help of Stricker’s Auction
Company and Nigro Brothers, the live
auction was an incredible success!
Thank you to all of our supporters,
guests and sponsors for our most
successful Red Shoe Shindig yet. We are
particularly grateful to our Honorary
Chairs, Mark & Kathy Donovan, for
making such a special night possible.
Mark your calendar for Sept. 7, 2013, for
next year’s big event! 

Tomorrow’s Hope

Gift Planning
“My daughter, Nicole, was killed in a
fire in 2005. When asked about a
memorial, I knew it had to be the Ronald
McDonald House Charities. She loved
that house and all the support she
received there. I found the more I did in
Nicole’s memory, the more she lived
on through those acts. My heart is
lightened and my daughter feels alive
when I share about her. When I see
others that are touched by her memory,
it lessens the sadness and I don’t feel so
alone.”

MHC-KC and its guest families
love volunteers! Volunteers are
the heart of the House and help
make families feel welcome in their
“home away from home.” Groups gather
together to cook meals for our families
every night of the year. Families, groups
of friends, organizations and corporate
groups find the meal program to be a
wonderful opportunity to get involved as
a volunteer at Ronald McDonald House
Charities of Kansas City. Their donation
of time, food and energy is essential to
our mission to provide a caring uplifting
environment for the families. Please visit
www.rmhckc.org/volunteers to view the
many ways you can get involved.
We’d like to send a special thank you
to the great volunteers from American
Century Investments. They continue to
support RMHC-KC and our families in
a variety of meaningful ways. Due to the
kindness and generosity of groups such
as American Century Investments, our
guests reutrn from long days at the
hospital with home cooked meals waiting
for them, and they are greeted by warm
and compassionate faces upon arrival.
Volunteers from American Century
Investments have been helping out
around our Houses and cooking meals
for many years, and, since 2010, American
Century Investments schedules an
evening to cook each month. There are
so many wonderful American Century
Investments employees who volunteer
their time with RMHC-KC, such as
Angie Paredes and the famous RMHCKC pizza and chocolate cake maker,
Allan DeBelle!
We’re lucky to have groups such as
American Century Investments. You can
imagine the thousands of children and
families who have been touched by her
caring heart. Thank you to American
Century Investments for all you do!

Around the House
With Mr. Bean
House, eagerly greeting guests and
wandering the first two floors to find
those families he may have missed! Mr.
Bean is loveable, patient and also a bit
comical. The kids and families simply
adore him and will often take part in his
daily walks as well as write him letters/
draw pictures and place them in his mailbox.
That’s right; he has his very own mailbox!

L
ast October, RMHC-KC added a
new team member, a House dog!
Mr. Bean, otherwise known as the
Director of Love and Compassion of
RMHC-KC, is a Cairn terrier mix and
was adopted from Wayside Waifs. Since
then he has given support, playfulness,
laughter, and plenty of cuddle sessions
to anyone who crosses his path. He has
been a wonderful addition to our team,
sitting at the front door of the Longfellow
In times of heartache and stress, any
second of relief can lift a thousand burdens
– allowing those in pain to simply
breathe. Mr. Bean is, of course, innocent
to know the power of his presence, but
he has given these moments countless
times for children and their families. His
gift is something no doctor, medicine or
treatment can offer – putting a feeling of
home into the House.
If you have yet to meet Mr. Bean, please
stop by soon! You can also follow his
antics and receive updates on RMHC-KC
by liking us on Facebook.
