3 50th Anniversary Events 4 Class of 2015 Highlights 8 Spring Sports Wrap-Up A MESSAGE FrOM OUr PRESIDENT “Your generosity throughout the past 50 years has brought us to this momentous occasion.” Dear Alumni and Friends, It is with great pride and enthusiasm that I announce the beginning of Montini Catholic’s 50th Year of Lasallian education in the Diocese of Joliet. e 201516 school year should be a great one filled with events and programs to celebrate this milestone, culminated by our 50th Anniversary Celebration on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at the Drury Lane, Oakbrook Terrace. In this issue of Bronco Express we’ve provided a list of other events planned for members of our school community, especially our alumni. We invite all to return, re-engage and celebrate with us. Two events are approaching quickly. e first is Homecoming , September 18th, where we will be celebrating 50 years of cheerleading, football and band. e second event, our Jubilee Liturgy, will be held on November 15th at 11:00 a.m., in our field house. Each week we will celebrate Montini Catholic’s history and heritage by publishing a series of articles entitled Fifty Stories for 50 Years. e articles will be sent to school community members. Montini Catholic’s Board of Directors and our 50th Anniversary Planning Committee have enjoyed looking back and revisiting many significant moments of our history, as well as individuals who have played a role in moving us forward. Our Million Dollar Students Two outstanding seniors were recognized and welcomed to the Class of 2015 Million Dollar Scholarship Club. e club celebrates students who have received $1,000,000 or more in scholarship offers. Congratulations to: Albert Holler of (St. Alexander Parish) Villa Park ($1,951,970); Albert will be attending Vanderbilt University in the fall with the goal of becoming a Pediatric Oncologist. Christopher Syregelas was awarded the Pax Christi Award which recognizes students who have devoted themselves to God by working to serve others and to help build a heritage of faith in the world. Chris will be attending the University of Wisconsin in the fall. CAMPUS MINISTrY AWArD Kelly McNamara and Klarque Scott dutifully earned the Mother eresa Campus Ministry Award. e award recognizes students who stand out as examples in community service and leadership. Kelly will be attending North Central College and Klarque plans on attending John Carroll University. Albert is the son of alumna, Al Holler ’70. Valedictorian Joseph Palasek will be attending Notre Dame. Salutatorians are Jordan Lazowski (Notre Dame) and Tyler Pacana (Sheridan College in Oakville, Ontario). MONTINI.ORG Megan Reznicek and Jordan Lazowski were awarded the Pope Paul VI Award. Each year, the award is given to the senior male and female students who best exemplify the characteristics of Christian leadership. Jordan, who is also a salutatorian, will be attending Notre Dame. Megan will grace the halls of Franciscan University. "at is to provide a human and Christian education to those entrusted to our care through the process of touching hearts," explained Principal Maryann O'Neill. is year the award was presented to Michael Bukovsky. "Mike has been more than a teacher and coach," said Maryann before presenting the award. "He has been a role model, guide and mentor to many young men and women. He treats our students with respect and has touched many hearts in his 21 years serving the Montini community." SCHOOL NEWS BOYS VArSITY BASKETBALL COACH Montini Catholic is proud to announce that Daryl omas (below with Athletic Director, Tom Lentine) has been selected as the new Head Coach of the Montini Catholic Boys Varsity Basketball Team. omas succeeds Brian Opoka who lead the Bronco Boys Varsity Basketball for the last seven years. ALUMNI rELATIONS COOrDINATOr Brian Casey (above left with President Jim Segredo) was recently welcomed to the school’s Development Office. Casey, a graduate of Montini Catholic's Class of 2001, will serve as the school's Alumni relations Coordinator. He will also be a member of the football coaching staff this fall. Mr. Block attended St. Mary’s University and Lewis University; Ms. Katie Wall will also be joining our eology Department. She attended St. Mary’s University; Ms. Natalie Anderson will be teaching World History and A.P. Government and Political Science. She hails from St. Francis University; Mrs. Sarah Pittenger will be teaching English II and is from St. Augustana College; Ms. Megan Steiner from our Class of 2010 has returned to teach Spanish II and Spanish IV. From Montini, Megan went on to Benedictine University; Ms. Jaclyn Marks will teach Algebra and Geometry. She is from National Louis University; Mr. Donald Krystof, from St. xavier University, will also be joining the Math Department to teach Algebra; Ms. Ashley Swanson attended North Central College and will be joining the Math Department as well, teaching both Algebra and Geometry; Finally, Brother Chuck Gregor, FSC, who has been working with the Christian Brothers Schools since 1976, will be our new Director of Digital Learning. Bronco Express Summer 2015 7 MONTINI CATHOLIC BRONCOS BASEBALL BRONCOS PROUD OF BASEBALL REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE Montini Catholic's Varsity Baseball Team recently brought home the IHSA 3A regional Championship following a thrilling 3-1 victory over the Shamrocks of St. Patrick High School on a cold, rainy Saturday, May 30th. In high school baseball, the road to the State Final is a seven step (game) process. e Broncos successfully moved through the first two games, however, fell out of the running on Wednesday night, June 3rd (14 to 4) vs. the Nazareth Academy roadrunners. SOFTBALL LADY BRONCOS ENJOY BEST RECORD IN THEIR HISTORY TRACK e 2015 Bronco softball team finished the season with the best record in the history of the program at 28-6. e team won the Suburban Christian Conference Championship and also an IHSA regional Championship. Suburban Christian Conference Player of the Year: Lauren Trojnar (pictured above). With the help of junior, Mitch West who was named Athlete of the Meet, our boys track team took 2nd place in the Suburban Christian Conference. State qualifiers were Mitch West (100 Dash), Malcolm Pitchford (300 Intermediate Hurdles), Matt Fisch (Triple Jump and 4x200 meter relay with Michael Hollingshed, Nick Foster, Will Smith, Jr. and Mitch West). Congratulations to Mitch West (right) for finishing 4th in the State (100 Dash)! Once again the girls track team competed at the IHSA State Finals in Charleston, IL. After earning 2nd place in the 4x800 meter relay the last few years, the girls team of Maddy Jamrozek, Jenna Weidacher, Emma Makowski and Gianna Salzbrunn broke through and won the state championship with a great time of 9:30.93. Gianna Salzbrunn (far right) was also all-state in the 300 meter Intermediate Hurdles. 9 Bronco Express Summer 2015 MONTINI.ORG SPORTS WRAP-UP SPRING RUGBY RUGBY TEAM TAKES THIRD PLACE Our Boys rugby Team finished their season with a 3rd Place trophy - Illinois Division 2, at the Chicagoland Conference on May 25th, after defeating the Glen Ellyn Ducks 38 to 31. VARSITY TEAMS Brine National High School All American Girls Team Photo: Grayson Clynch pictured front row far left; Luisa "Luma" Medina middle row 3rd from the right LACROSSE 2 ATHLETES NAMED 2015 BRINE NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL ALL AMERICANS Sophomores Grayson Clynch and Luisa "Luma" Medina were named 2015 Brine National High School All-Americans and selected to represent the Illinois region at the 2015 Brine National Lacrosse Classic held in Virginia, June 29-July 2, 2015. In addition to being selected to the Illinois High School team, Medina was also selected for the AllTournament All-Star team out of all the players from the multiple state regional teams. e Brine Committee is comprised of college and high school coaches from across the country who chose the All-Star team. ISRAEL MARTINEZ NATIONAL WRESTLING COACHES ASSOCIATION Senior Samuel Asta SCHOLASTIC COACH YEAR OF THE 15 IHSA TEAM RECOGNIZED FOR ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AWARD Fifteen Bronco varsity teams were recognized for the IHSA Team Achievement Academic Award for the 2014-2015 sports season. e program is designed to reward teamwork not only in competition, but in the classroom as well. e award recognizes teams whose members maintain a grade point average of 3.0 or higher throughout their respective season. MONTINI.ORG Bronco Express Summer 2015 9 BRONCO BITS! ALUMNI NEWS Michael Hushek ‘99 now resides in St. Croix in the US Virgin Islands as the Captain and owner of St. Croix Inshore Fishing Charters. Hushek’s charter specializes in fly fishing and spin fishing for bonefish, tarpon, permit and snook, some of the most prized fish to catch in the region. Carson Beebe ’07 was named an Assistant Wrestling Coach at St. Laurence High School. Austin Kline ’14 recently completed his summer collegiate baseball season with the Windy Hill Whales of the BCBL in Myrtle Beach. Kline hit .322, leading the team in hits, and finishing second in rBI’s (11). Kline will return to Brunswick Community College (NC) this fall for his redshirt freshman season. "Are you looking to play hockey again on a men's league team with Montini alums who once wore the maroon and gold on their sleeves? Craig Dziewiatkowski '01 and his wife, Gracie, lovingly welcomed their fourth child, Louis Joseph Dziewiatkowski, on May 28, 2015. Louis weighed 8 lbs. 4 oz. and was 19 ½ inches long. Louis joins siblings Gianna, Frankie and Bernadette.
