Dear Kingsway Alumni,
Spring has sprung
on the campus of
Kingsway College.
Winter has finally
been beaten back
and is hibernating
for a few months.
The campus is alive
with new buds and fresh tulips popping up everywhere. The official weed/
flower of Ontario “the dandelion” has
also reared its head which means summer is just around the corner.
With this issue of the KC Contact, we
are proud to provide you with the latest Kingsway news and events. There is
always so much happening at Kingsway
that it is difficult to report on it all. In
an effort to bring you a sustained news
stream we will be introducing the Enewsletter in addition to an electronic
version of the KC Contact. The E-newsletter will come in the form of an e-mail
and will share the more day to day news
and information from Kingsway College.
We hope this will keep you connected
to your Alma mater on a more frequent
basis. We have also designed the Kingsway Contact to have specific items in
each edition that will help you get sense
of continuity as you look forward to each
issue.
The last issue of the Contact had some
items that were left out and a few errors
that we would like to address so please
look on page four for some corrections.

AS THE 2013-14 school year begins to wind down, we
are starting to look forward to another exciting school
year beginning in September. I’d
like to take this opportunity to tell
you about some of the exciting
things we are working on for next
school year.
Capital Project 2014 – We are raising funds to renovate the chapel’s
audio/ visual system. This renovation will include new sound equipment, a proper storage case for the sound equipment, new microphones,
and lighting. The most exciting part of this project will
be adding video & recording capabilities. This will allow
our parents of current dorm students as well as prospective students the ability to go to our website to see the
excellent spiritual programming that occurs at Kingsway
College.
1-1 Tablet Program – Beginning in September of
2014, Kingsway will be providing our students with a
21st century classroom. All students will be provided
with a Dell Venue 11 Pro Tablet when they enrol at Kingsway College. This program will provide equal access to
technology for all of our students, will increase student
engagement, and will prepare students better for future
careers. We are the first Adventist Academy in Canada
that is launching a tablet program and we are very excited to be able to provide this for our students.

our Annual Report for 2013 which discusses the things
we have accomplished at Kingsway in 2013 as well as

Your gifts enable us to provide worthy student scholarships which makes Adventist education at Kingsway College possible for many students who would be unable
to afford it. Your gifts also enable us to make improvements to the campus as well as the programming that is

these awesome opportunities for our students without

I VISITED THE OTHER HALF of my home country, Tanzania because I felt that I did not know much about Tanzania, and I needed to see more of it. Gaining bigger perspectives is a very important thing to me. And also I wanted to hang out more and get
closer with my dad.
The children in the picture which I am surrounded with I saw
smiles, happiness, joy and I saw that they knew what love was. I
saw faith and hope. When compared to the western world they
do not have much as far as material possessions but their true joy
comes from deep within. I saw that God is all around them even
in poverty and rough times. I learned that money is not the solution for happiness, but their faith for God is. n

SPRING BREAK TOURS
Spring Break Tours
AERIALS: Tour began in Montreal, Quebec, where the
team took part in the church service at Westmount SDA
Church. Our first performance was at the Trafalgar School
for Girls in Montreal. Sunday morning, we piled into the bus
and headed for Union Springs Academy in Union Springs,
NY. Sunday evening we performed for the students at Union
Springs and also held a clinic, teaching them basic tumbling
moves. Bright and early Monday, we made for New York City
and spent the next day and a half sightseeing. We were given
a tour bus pass that allowed us to see all the major highlights
of the city. Some students went to Central Park, and others
to the Freedom Tower. On Wednesday we stopped at the
Woodbury Common Premium Outlets and spent 4 hours
shopping. We continued the drive back to Canada, which
should have taken approximately 6 hours, but ended up taking almost 12 hours due to a major snowstorm that pushed
through upstate New York and Quebec. We were unable to
make our performance at Greaves Academy in Montreal as
our bus driver ran out of driving hours. Thursday afternoon,
we walked around downtown Montreal and did some more
shopping! Friday we drove to Ottawa and took part in a clinic
at the Ottawa Gymnastics Centre., where we learned new
techniques to perfect our tumbling. On Sabbath, we participated in the church service at Ottawa East and held our last
performance at the Samuel Genest High School and then
headed home after a great tour!
BAND: Our band tour began on a cold day, no one really
knew what to expect… and so began our long journey. Our
trip ranged from Barrie to Sault St. Marie, from Wisconsin to
Illinois and finally from Michigan to Toronto. It was hard work,
for nine days we loaded and unloaded not only baggage but
a seemingly unending supply of instruments, sometimes
multiple times during the day. Along with hard work there
was always the joy of waking up to the smell of breakfast
prepared by our dedicated sponsors that gave us energy to
get through our long days.
We performed concerts at schools and at Churches and
slept on whatever solid ground we could find (although we
did have 2 exceptionally comfortable nights at a hotel and
at Andrew’s University!). At Canadian institutions we would
set up a table with info about Kingsway as well as having a
promotional video; people were curious about us!
Wherever we went people were extremely grateful to
have us and provided us with food and shelter. It was amazing to count on our Church family wherever we went.
Many see Spring Tours as a “free vacation” where you can
do whatever you want, others think that tours are tediously
long trips with lots of work. The truth? Spring tours, at least
at Kingsway, are an occasion to show others what an amazingly awesome job God has done in our school, and to help
us grow as a team: you can’t have a one person band! Until
next year!
CHOIR: It was an eager group of students awaiting the
bus boarding call on that cold March afternoon. The excitement abounded with the expectations of sunny Florida, just
a short 24 hours away. After the long drive ended, the choir
members disembarked to sunny skies and warm hospitality.
Though performing at various churches was a high point,
most members found the day at Busch Gardens to be the
pinnacle point of the trip. With the all-you-can-eat option
purchased by most choir members, the day was filled with
roller coasters, good times, and feasts galore. The subsequent day at the beach resonated well with these winterworn warriors; the sun and surf were gratefully soaked up to
the extreme. It came to an end too soon and they headed
back to Canada. Stopping at Southern University in Collegedale, Tennessee on the way home, the KC choir was reunited with many former students and prior choir members.
Wonderful cuisine, tours and good times transpired. With
a grossly early departure, the choir made the long journey
back to the frozen tundra that was Canada. While driving
back, patches of snow eventually appeared by the roadside,
reminding the songsters that winter was still fiercely clinging
on in desperation. A quick jaunt over the Detroit-Windsor
bridge brought the final leg of the journey into play. A few
stops and performances later, the bus arrived at the Leland
parking lot, its final destination on the tour. Exhausted, yet
exuberant choir members tumbled off the coach, laden with
abundant treasures and priceless memories. n

GUESTS BEGAN ARRIVING at 5:00PM, anxious to see what
the night had in store. As they walked into the lobby of the A.
E. King Fitness Complex, they were greeted with lovely music
provided by Kingsway students (Jared Morado, Vivianne Tugay,
Candice Juodele, Michael Tugay, and Malissa Flores) and tasty
hors d’oeuvres. Once checked in, guests were ushered to their
seats by helpful students, and given the opportunity to peruse
the Silent Auction items donated by local businesses and friends
of Kingsway.
The program began with a welcome by Oshawa Mayor, John
Henry, as well as Enrolment Director, Remy Guenin. The MCs for
the evening, Lisa and Reuel McGann, introduced the Kingsway
College Philharmonic Ensemble who played two numbers for
the guests. Dinner service began with a delicious garden salad,
served by the Kingsway College Aerials. After the Philharmonic
Ensemble, three of Kingsway’s students, Tanisha Bastien, Quisa
Diamante, and Vivianne Tugay sang a lovely rendition of “Hallelujah”.
Kim Tosi, grade 9 student and Worthy Student Fund recipient,
was interviewed by Lisa, and spoke about the blessing of being
able attend Kingsway thanks to the Worthy Student Fund. Kim is
heavily involved in Kingsway life, with the praise team, serving
as Pastor for the Philharmonic Ensemble, as well as speaking for
major events like Preview Weekend.
The Kingsway College Symphonic Choir sang four songs while
the main entrée of penne with a primavera sauce, steamed
vegetables, and bread with butter was served. Another
highlight of the evening was when students Darnel Bazil and
Julia Curtis sang “I Believe In You” . Such talent we have here
at Kingsway!
Throughout the evening, guests were reminded by Tim
and Sharon Aka to check out the Silent Auction table for
the items available such as the beautiful dresser donated by
College Woodwork and the custom framed print of Jesus in
the Storm donated by the Adventist Book Center. Once the
auction was closed, the winners were announced, and a preliminary tally of the total funds raised was made.
The Kingsway College Aerials began their performance
with the traditional “Chairs” routine, followed by “Tribute to
God”, which highlights some of the most powerful stories in
the Bible.
The evening was closed off with a number of thanks to
the MCs, Silent Auction hosts, Doug Bruce for lighting, all
of the sponsors who donated items as well as sponsored a
table, and the guests who attended and generously donated
towards the Worthy Student Fund.
In total, $50,000 was raised. Every dollar that came has
impacted so many of our students here at Kingsway College.
Thank you to those who donated for the blessing you have
been to this ministry! n

STUDENT WEEK OF PRAYER
“The 10 Plagues” - Student Week of Prayer

WATER INTO BLOOD. Frogs. Gnats. Flies. Plague on livestock. Boils. Hail. Locusts. Darkness. Death of the firstborn.
The theme for this year’s Student Week of Prayer was “The 10 Plagues”. Each program (morning and evening) was led by one of our
Grade 12 students: Nicole, Emmanuel, Renee, Darnel, Nathan, Elle, Jacob, Zahara, Travis, Felimon, and Zlatan.
The theme was designed to show the students that the worship of Egyptian gods was linked to some aspect of life in the ancient
near east (eg. life, provision, security, etc.,) and that we too often rely on various ‘gods’ that help us with these aspects. In the end, it
was God that went head to head with these false gods to show us that it is through God that we can have all these things provided
for.
Worship was started with a number of songs by the class Praise Teams, and followed by the Student Association Praise Team who
led the school in singing the chosen theme song, “You Are God Alone” by Phillips, Craig, and Dean. The words of this song are powerful and resonated with the topic for each day. “You’re the only God, whose power none can contend. You’re the only God, whose
name and praise will never end. You’re the only God who’s worthy of everything we can give. You are God, and that’s just the way
it is.”
Every time God hardened Pharaoh’s heart, it gave the opportunity for His power to be shown. When Pharaoh exalted himself and
his other gods above the One True God, each plague brought on the people of Egypt showed them that there should be no other
god before Him. Each student’s message reiterated the fact that it doesn’t matter who or what attempts to challenge God, HE will
win the battle every time. n

PREVIEW WEEKEND 2014
RED - What is it to you?

I CAN STILL REMEMBER my first “College Days” experience. It was
in April of 2007 when I was in grade 10, when I deliberated with my
decision to come to Kingsway College or not. To me, Kingsway College held three main qualities: it was a small school, too expensive,
and had such a busy schedule! My connection to Kingsway College
began when I was invited by a parent, whose children were all attending KC. Even though I hesitated to call to register for the “Preview Weekend”, that weekend was an event I will always remember.
Preview Weekend 2014 was held from April 11-13. This year’s
theme was, “Red - What is it to You?”
Registration began at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, where students and
their parents made their way to the A. E. King Fitness Complex to
check-in, receive their welcome packages, and “Redeemed Every
Day” t-shirts.
This year, the campus tour was self-guided and more interactive. Each registered prospective student was given a campus tour
passport and our current students served as tour guides at various
locations. The objective was to visit as many hotspots as possible,
and be one of the first three to accumulate 12 or more stamps to
qualify for a special gift from the Enrolment Office. Once campus
tours were over, supper was served, where our faculty and staff were
introduced. After dinner, our guests attended Teacher Information
Sessions where they were able to inquire about classes, work load,
and class structure. The KC Symphonic Choir directed by Sharon
Foreman, presented the vespers concert at College Park Church.
After Vespers, our guests and students went to the cafeteria to hang
out and just socialize at “Chill Time”.
Saturdays during Preview Weekend are the most action-packed
days. The day began with breakfast at 7:45 a.m. Sabbath School
was led by Campus Ministries in the KC chapel. The Praise Team led
out the song service with great energy. The main service was held
at College Park, where the KC Philharmonic Ensemble directed by
Thamar Juan Tyson, presented lovely renditions and current students Kim Tosi (grade 9) and Darnel Bazil (grade 12) each presented
a sermonette, speaking to the theme, “Redeemed Every Day.” Kim
shared a testimony when she was a child and the deliverance of
God from having their home almost catch on fire. Whereas Darnel presented an engaging breakdown of the weekend’s bible
text, Ephesians 1:7, “In him we have redemption through his
blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of
God’s grace.” Lunch was served at the cafeteria, where our guests
and current students and faculty fellowshipped. It was such a
beautiful day that many guests took a walk around campus. The
Drama Club performed, “A Sheep in Wolf’s Clothing” directed
by Margaret Russnell and Sophia Parkes at the KC chapel, along
with three other short skits. Sundown worship in the chapel began shortly after dinner, where guests and students heard from
Head Men’s Dean, Mr. Ryan. His inspirational talk spoke about
how everyone has a purpose, and that each one goes through
life having to choose between the wide or the narrow path (Matthew 7:13, 14). The sound of enthusiastic cheers of the guests
and students filled the A. E. King Fitness Complex as the Aerials,
coached by Jason Wilkins and Adam Mohns presented their annual Homeshow. After the performance, the Student Association
shared a sweet treat with our guests and students.
Sunday’s schedule was much shorter, as it was reserved for
financial consultations and the beginning of the application
process. These both took place in the cafeteria while brunch was
being served. Guests were presented with an information session by our administrators, Scott Bowes, Jeremy O’Dell and Remy
Guenin, where the new gadget was introduced - Dell Venue Pro
11 tablet. Each student and faculty member will be equipped
with a tablet for the 2014-2015 school year.
Overall, Preview Weekend was a great success! We had a total
of 124 guests, with 62 of them being students. It is our hope that
their experience at Kingsway College was a memorable one, and
that the Lord will continue to lead the students with their high
school decision. n

Cardinal Classic Champions
IT ALMOST DIDN’T HAPPEN. The team was anxious as
the snow kept falling. Whiteout conditions had made driving
unsafe and a trip to Michigan impossible. The administration went back and forth, not wanting to cancel the most
anticipated trip of the season, but unwilling to put the team
in harm’s way. Finally, the drivers were called to the office and
we discussed how we would proceed. Four in the morning
was the agreed upon departure time and we went home to
get rest for the trip.
We pulled out at four and started the eight-hour drive to
Berrien Springs, Michigan and the Cardinal Classic Basketball
tournament. It was an uneventful trip and by early afternoon
we had arrived. Before we could even settle in we had to run
to lunch and then run to our campus tour. When that was
done we could finally move into the dorms where we’d be
staying.

time in two years. But this year was different. This year Kingsway dominated Union Springs Academy from start to finish
and won by double digits to bring Kingsway, and Canada, it’s
first Cardinal Classic: Division Two Championship. Both the
girls’ and guys’ teams carried themselves well, were active in
the spiritual programming and represented Christ on and off
the court in a way that made this coach very proud. n

Then the Basketball started. The guys and girls teams
both played at similar times so since I was coaching the boy’s
I didn’t get to see much of the other games. However in their
first game the guy’s won a close game, lifted by Darnel Bazil’s
7 straight last minute points. The second and third games
were blowouts led by hot shooting from Jared Juodele and a
very strong team defense.
Our fourth game was a nail-biter won by a last minute
Emmanuel Danso-Amofa jumper. We had gone undefeated

relate it to our spiritual gifts, and what we do or do not do with the gifts that
God has given us. Scripture says each were given talents according to their
ability, and in so doing saw gain, or saw those talents taken away for not being
used to it’s potential. If we relate the TEN TALENTS to the health message, and
break it down into an acronym that maps out the route to health and happiness,
what then if we do not use that which God has given us. We will not reach the
potential God wants for us. Follow the recipe that everyone can make, not just
the chefs and cooking experts out there.
TEN TALENTS= Trust in Divine Power, Exercise, Nutrition, Temperance, Air,
Light, Energizing Water, Nightly Rest, Thankfulness, Service.
Now if we are given these talents and don’t use them, what then? How do
we ever spread the gospel, sharing with people what God has done in our lives,
if we don’t use that which we have been given? The health message is unique,
scriptural and we all would benefit from following it more closely.

Duncan Mustard was born Feb 23,
1939 in Folkstone, Kent, England. He
graduated from Atlantic Union College
in So. Lancaster, MA in 1960 and did
graduate work at Clark University and
Worcester State College in Worchester,
MA. His working career started at Kingsway College as Dean of Men & teaching Social Studies & Geography from
1962-1964. The class of 1966 has great
memories of him as a teacher and class
sponsor during grades 9 and 10. He
joined the class of 1966 for their 40th
Reunion. He stated that it touched his
heart to hear his students (now adults)
talk about their walk with God. For us,
we were truly blessed to have him as a
teacher and class sponsor for 2 years as
he touched our lives. The next 20 years
were spent at AUC as Geography Instructor and Assistant Dean of Men. He
spent 22 years at Walla Walla University.
He passed away Dec 2, 2013 in Walla
Walla, WA. He leaves his wife of 53 years,
Jean (Hodder) Mustard of Walla Walla,
WA, two grown children-Karen Larsen
of Shirley, MA and Kelvin (Liz) Mustard
of Sterling, MA and three grandchildren-Amber, Cody, and Kaylee.
Reynald Sacha Adam passed away
in Montreal on January 13, 2014, at
the age of 36.
He leaves to mourn his family, relatives and friends.
Ronald Boutcher left us on April 8,
2014, peacefully at Hotel Dieu-Grace
Hospital. Ron was born August 28,
1964, in Oshawa, Ontario to Howard
and Jean (Monroe) Boutcher. As a
young man, Ron attended Kingsway
College in Oshawa where he met his
wife, Brenda (King) Boutcher. Ron and
his wife lived in Oshawa, Ontario and
Essex, Ontario before finally settling in
Windsor and starting their family. He
was a gentle and loving father to his
daughter Holly and son Nathan, they
were always his number one priority.
His interests included his creativity with
guitar and music, animals which included his pets throughout the years,
especially his dog Brutus who was his
friend and constant companion. He
devoted his time and energy to family
and friends. His heart was larger than
life just like his sense of humour, always
young at heart. Mr. Boutcher is survived
by his parents, Howard and Jean; sister,
Wanda; brothers, Allan and Gordon;
wife, Brenda; son, Nathan; daughter,
Holly; many sisters-in-law; many brothers-in-law; nieces and nephews. He will
be missed dearly by all who knew him.
