EMBASSY OF ISRAEL IN ETHIOPIA DIPLOMATIC AGENDA - NEWSLETTER February 2014 From Israel with Music, at Acacia Jazz Fest 2014 A ddis Ababa (Feb. 6-8) — The occasion of this year’s Accacia Jazz and World Music Festival had comprised Israeli musicians: Monica Manaker (singer, songwriter playing the guitar), Elad Neeman (percussionist), Avshalom Farjun (playing the Qanun) and Avshalom Tubali (playing the Oud), alongside Jazzamba Entertainment and Mingle Promotions. At Jazzamba Lounge, on Feb. 6th evening, the four above-mentioned musicians with Girum Mezmur and Henock Temesgen presented their signature tunes which they have performed all over the world. On Saturday, Feb.8th at 6 & 7PM, they gave the crowd more enchanting Ethio-Israeli collaboration and musical talent at the Floral Tropical Gardens with Girum Mezmur and Henock Temesgen. Monica Manaker performing with Avshalom Farjun, Avshalom Tubali and Ethiopian musicians Henock Temesgen and Girum Mezmur Photo credit to: MARIO DI BARI EMBASSY OF ISRAEL IN ETHIOPIA DIPLOMATIC AGENDA - NEWSLETTER February 2014 Art, Joy, Love for Ethiopian children A ddis Ababa (Feb. 9, 2014) — The Embassy of Israel in collaboration with Prof. Danny Engelhard, from Hadassah University Hospital in Israel, as well as the Ethiopian Netsa Art Village group got together to present to Ethiopian orphaned children from Artists for Charity organization, Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity, and AHOPE Ethiopia orphanage yet another round of “Art-Joy-Love” project comprising a special concert, art exhibition, and workshops at the Addis Ababa University’s Ale Design and Fine Arts School. The project named “Hope with Art & Music”, held on Sunday, February 9, 2014 mainly aimed to educate through art and friendship. Visiting the art works of the children at AAU’s Ale Design and Fine Arts School Monica Manaker and Elad Neeman coaching the children prior to the exhibition at Netsa Art Village More than hundreds of pictures and designs filled the walls of the hall. The children also performed amazing songs and instrument solos combining with Israeli band. PROJECTS ABROAD ETHIOPIA staff and current volunteers went to cheer the efforts being made by the children and the orphanages. EMBASSY OF ISRAEL IN ETHIOPIA DIPLOMATIC AGENDA - NEWSLETTER February 2014 Kahn Foundation gives free eye surgeries at Jinka Hospital Ambassador Belaynesh Zevadia paid a visit A ddis Ababa (Feb. 16-21, 2014) — Kahn Foundation, an Israeli humanitarian group from Tel HaShomer Hospital, conducted free cataract surgeries at the Jinka Hospital that makes for sight restoration of numerous visually impaired people living in the South Omo zone of Jinka town. It also provided screening service for Jinka schools with the cooperation of south Omo Zonal Bureau. Jinka is chosen for its remoteness and absence of advanced medical facility. Supported by MASHAV (Israel’s Agency for International Development Cooperation) and led by Dr. Itay Ben Zion, an Israeli professional ophthalmologist, Kahn Foundation team has performed a weeklong humanitarian eye surgery for visually impaired people who have lost their sight due to various reasons. Two Ethiopian nurses have just completed a three-year training by Kahn’s doctors and now can conduct eye surgeries along their Ethiopian counterparts throughout the year. Kahn Foundaton launched its first eye camp in Jinka in 2010, in cooperation with local authorities. Ambassador Belaynesh visiting the community Embassy receives IGAD representatives A ddis Ababa (Feb. 28, 2014) — Ambassador Belaynesh Zevadia and Deputy Ambassador Leo Vinovezky met with Amb. (Eng.) Mohboub M. Maalim (Executive Secretary of IGAD – Inter Governmental Authority on Development) along with Mrs. Legawork Asefa (Coordinator of Africa Peace Facility Fund at the IGAD). They discussed cooperation points regarding interests of the countries of the region: Etiopia, Djibouti, Eritrea, Uganda, Kenya, Sudan, and South Sudan.
