INDEPENDENT DRAMA SCHOOL CREATED AND LED BY AWARD-WINNING ACTOR MARCUS D’AMICO 2 OXFORD Professional actor Marcus D’Amico created Authentic Performance Academy in 2013 for children and young people interested in developing their acting and singing skills in a professional yet fun and safe environment, learning the creative process of play, developing character, public speaking and performance skills and gaining a real sense of their unique talents and strengths. All children are valued for their individuality and the sessions are informative, relaxed, inspiring and life changing! 3 LEADS A TEAM OF HIGHLY EXPERIENCED INDUSTRY PROFESSIONALS Marcus attended Redroofs Theatre School as a child and was working in professional theatre from the age of 10. He landed his first starring role playing the lead in Cameron Mackintosh’s West End revival of Oliver!. He went on to appear in many TV, theatre productions and films including BBC2’s Last Summer’s Child and the movie Superman II. He also appeared in Stanley Kubrick’s Full Metal Jacket, was nominated for a Laurence Olivier award as ‘Best Actor’ for his performance in Tony Kushner‘s original production of Angels in America at the National , performed at the RSC and won the Time Out award for Best Male Performance in The Boys Next Door. His international career included playing the lead on Broadway in An Inspector Calls directed by Stephen Daldry and playing opposite Rupert Graves and Rachel Weisz in Design for Living. He created the role of ‘Mouse’ in the acclaimed Channel 4 TV series of Tales of the City. Drawing on his considerable experience in theatre, television and film Marcus and his team provide students with an authentic experience of acting; whether they’re considering a career in the performing arts or simply want to be creative and build confidence. 4 REHEARSAL PROCESS Sessions run every Saturday during term time at the Wychwood School on the Banbury Road in central Oxford. Authentic Performance Academy’s main aim is to provide students with a real experience of the actor’s rehearsal process through various teaching methods and acting techniques. Groups are separate into the following: Minis: ages 5-7 learn everything fun about acting, singing and dancing Juniors: ages 8-12 take all modules including acting and singing Seniors: ages 13-16 take all modules including acting and singing Youth Theatre Company: ages 16-18 5 PROFESSIONAL VOCAL COACHES Our vocal coaches are classically-trained singers with lots of professional experience in the West End and on tour internationally. Students learn the art of breathing, rhythm, harmonies, staging and choreography whilst performing a range of musical styles including pop, rock, musical and film. At the end of each term, parents, family and friends are invited to come and watch both the singing and acting pieces that students have been working on. At the end of term one it’s an informal showcase; end of term two a full-scale production in a theatre; and end of term three a film screening. 6 Students ease into the year with improvisation, devised drama and monologue/ duologue pieces Students work towards a full scale production, experiencing a real rehearsal process Students learn the craft of screen acting, filming scenes which are then edited into a film 7 WORKING PROFESSIONALLY All of our students are invited to join the Authentic Performance Academy Agency if they’re interested in pursuing professional work within theatre, TV, film or commercials. Two of our current students, represented by us, were recently short-listed for Warner Bros Pictures , directed by Joe Wright. We work hard to maintain good working relationships with casting agents world-wide and those on our books are entered into the Spotlight directory as well as other casting networks.
