In most cases, the type of roof determines the style and image projected by a home. Consider how the roof drives the first impressions made by these elegant homes. Gable & Bay An elegant multi-sided bay constructed with a custom-engineered truss mates perfectly with the end of the gable style roof. It establishes the shape of a cozy dining nook. Hip, Gable & bay This home combines the hip and gable roof styles for a formal look and adds a Victorian detail with the octagonal bay. beautiful craftsmanship This craftsman-style cottage consists of a dual-pitch gable truss with a full-length roof peak. The dormer extensions add both room and personality to the home. A French Accent The Mansard roof offers so much attic space, it is often used as an extra story. The charming built-out “eyebrow” dormers are a pleasing addition. Cross-Hipped These multi-angled rooflines leave a lasting impression. Here a cross-hipped design essentially blends several hip roofs, including “half-hipped” sections that create distinctive rooflines. eye-catching detail Distinctive roof trusses make interesting ceiling treatments possible. This stylish alcove was created by using a cathedral truss. Bonnet-Style (Bell roof) This roof has many variations. One of them adds a bonnet to the lower section, creating porches, decorative overhangs and extra room, such as the extension to the attached garage seen here. 2 extra space means enhanced livability at t i c f u l l at t i c r oom The correct truss design improves space efficiency by creating attic space in the gable roof style or even a full attic room courtesy of a truss known as a “sloping flat.” The Sky’s The Limit cape cod Using truss construction usually means there is no need for interior load-bearing walls. This gives an architect or designer great flexibility in creating drama with wall and ceiling shapes that can be entirely decorative. The popular “open” floor plan is easily achieved using engineered trusses. Sweeping staircases leading to dramatic balconies, stunning great rooms, walls with pass-throughs — the sky’s the limit! The cape cod roof truss provides the structural strength to open nearly every cubic foot of volume beneath the ceiling. 3 4 Architectural ceilings ENGINEERED FOR STYLE c at h e d r al Engineered roof trusses inspire many variations on a theme for ceilings. Stylish elements such as; tray, coffered, and barrel ceilings are made possible using engineered trusses. A low-slope cathedral ceiling, created with the scissor truss, allows a modest slope for the ceiling. Atlas roof trusses provide the strength that makes decorative design a matter of imagination. f u l l c at h e dral The full cathedral ceiling calls for a full scissor roof truss. ENGINEERED FOR ATMOSPHERE A high ceiling is uplifting and makes a small room feel more spacious. A sloped ceiling forces the eye upwards, emphasizing a light and open atmosphere. t r ay / c o f f e r barrel ceiling The tray/coffered ceiling has a flat center with sides sloping in from the walls, adding dramatic effect to any space. Barrel trusses make it possible to have a rounded cove ceiling, giving architectural interest to the room. v e rt i c a l t r ay Cathedral ceilings can vary in pitch and shape, depending on the type of roof truss used. The vertical tray ceiling is often framed with one or more stepped square edges, going from the wall to the flat ceiling. va u lt e d c e i ling A vaulted ceiling truss creates a shed effect by sloping upward from one side only. 5 6 engineered walls for versatility engineered components OPEN CONCEPT KITCHEN Engineered STRUCTURAL WALL FRAMING span the distance Atlas helps meet the architectural challenges presented by today’s open floor plans. Our engineered beams have the rigidity and load-bearing strength to support your most ambitious plans. Today’s homes are using tall, multi-story walls with many openings for specialty windows and doors. Your builder should use engineered studs, columns and beams for tall walls to prevent the bowing and flexing of exterior walls. PARALLAM BEAM CONNECTORS LAMINATED VENEER LUMBER (LVL) Glued Laminated Timbers (GLULAM column) STEEL BEAM Atlas engineered beams and tall walls resist bending and flexing as they span long distances and soar to cathedral heights. EXPANDED LIVING SPACE standing tall with atl as When roof loads are increased by snow buildup or the forces of wind, Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL) or Glulam materials offer strength and security. They are structurally capable of sustaining both wind pressures and vertical loads. 7 These studs and beams are far more structurally stable in walls supporting large compression loads. They resist the bowing and flexing found in conventional solid-wood framing, particularly in high snowfall regions. make a connection Atlas has a complete line of structural and architectural hangers. These connectors add strength and architectural detail to your home. 8 engineered floor systems MULTI-LEVEL ROOM engineered for open concepts Supporting floor loads is just as important as holding up the roof. Open-span construction allows great flexibility in design. With an engineered floor system, wall placement allows floor layouts that ordinary framing could not achieve. CANTILEVERS GRAND ENTRANCES & balconies Atlas Structural Systems offers an extensive range of product types and sizes so that, with a little imagination, you can create an inviting foyer or an impressive great room. Engineered floor systems can be installed to create cantilevered walkways and “floating” balconies. SUNKEN ENTRYWAY ATLAS FLOOR TRUSS Multiple Levels & l andings High ceilings and multi-level floors compliment each other. The sunken living room adds drama and height to soaring cathedral ceilings. Engineered joists make the most luxurious designs possible. OPEN JOIST 2000 I-JOIST BRIDGE OPEN BASEMENT Atlas engineered floor systems make the choice of floor finish materials essentially unrestricted by weight concerns. Ceramic, slate, and other heavy floor coverings are easily supported by engineered floor systems. Hidden Utilities Atlas offers a comprehensive product line of engineered floor products, beams and connectors. It’s the answer to hiding ductwork and other utility services within the floor system to eliminate bulkheads. 9 10 the atlas way architectural design is just a truss away design without compromise Working as a team, our design staff ensures that their individual strengths are matched to each customer’s needs.
