I am happy to say that with the help of our dedicated team we have accomplished both of these goals. The next step in redefining our brand is the introduction of our new menu on Friday, October 16. Chef Tony Usher and I have developed an Italian themed menu that will complement the success we have had with our pizzas. This new menu is intended to give us brand recognition in traditional and nontraditional Italian dishes and should appeal to both men and women. In addition to the Italian menu we will continue to offer our pub menu consisting of great burgers, sandwiches and salads available at anytime. On Friday nights we will offer our delicious “Prime Rib” dinner specials and schedule occasional live entertainment for your enjoyment. This is an exciting and bold move for us and I hope to see all of you for the launch of our new restaurant. We are optimistic that you will be happy with this new direction. Now for what’s going on around the course. By the time you read this we should be wrapped up with aeration. I have been asked a few times “why do we start aeration on Sunday afternoon?” The top three reasons are: Labor-I am able to use crew members who have went back to school. Drying time- before we can even think about dragging sand into the aeration holes the morning dew is gone. By starting in the afternoon we can start dragging the sand in within 20 minutes of applying; finally Sunday afternoon there is usually not much play. Talking about aeration we are looking at an aerator that has virtually no disruption to play and I feel could permanently remove the need for spring time aeration. The following link is a YouTube video about it the machine https://youtu.be/4G95f7eb3NE Landscaping- We have installed 25 new privet hedges on the left of 3 green as an experiment to see if we can hide the ugly cable fencing which surrounds the golf course. We owe a thank you to Steve Hill for donating the money for the bushes. We have also planted 58 juniper shrubs on the side of 14 tee. In the spring we will add mulch to fill the void between the bushes, but in time they will all grow together making for a nice looking low maintenance landscape. We are heading into the season where we will be having frost delays if there is frost at your house there is a good chance we have frost here. I keep the ProShop updated so if you give them a call they will know if the course is playable or not. We also have a weather station that you can access through Weather underground it is listed as Avondale golf course here is the link: http://wxug.us/1p6cb Keep in mind just because the ambient temperature reads above freezing the shady areas may still have frost. Well until next time enjoy some nice late season golf and the beauty of the color changes on the course and Maverick and I will see you out there. Avondale Ladies 18 Hole Division AVONDALE 9 HOLE LADIES LEAGUE TUESDAY NIGHT LADIES LEAGUE What a great September we have had--no more smoke--finally a bit of rain--a slight chill--the fall colors are popping and golf has been super. How beautiful is our course right now? Fall has set it “aglow” and for those who are able to enjoy a early afternoon on the course, you will be amazed by the beautiful colors on display! AS PREDICTED, THE AVONDALE LADIES 9 HOLE LEAGUE CRUSHED CDA PUBLIC BY AN AMAZING 19 POINTS TO RETAIN THE TRAVELING TROPHY HELD SEPTEMBER 1ST AT AVONDALE! Top Gross- Jenni Whitehead Top Net- Rita Kostelecky IENG Tami Savage will be our new IENG representative for 2016, replacing Sharron Snyder. Thanks to both ladies for spearheading this tournament series. UPCOMING EVENTS October 6th – Last day of official play for the season. Luncheon to follow. Sign up for play and Luncheon on sheet located on bulletin board. At the luncheon we will also be planning for our Christmas Party scheduled for December 1st. Mark the date. Gratitude On behalf of the Avondale 9 Hole Ladies League, I want to extend a huge THANK YOU to the Management, Staff , Pro Shop and Grounds keeping . You made it easy to be proud members of Avondale Golf Club through out our season and especially when hosting other clubs at our tournaments. See you on the course this Fall- Jenni Whitehead We had a remarkable season this year with no rain cancellations! Top honors go to the Golf Bags with Twyla Cope, Julie Grabowski, Deb Stoenner, Karen Robinette and Bailey Wiedmer. Second place honors go to the Iron Maidens with Jan Leaf, Brenda Burk, Jennifer Golf is deceptively simple and endlessly complicated; it satisfies the soul and frustrates the intellect. It is at the same time rewarding and maddening - and it is without a doubt the greatest game mankind has ever invented. Arnold Palmer It is a wonderful group of women with great spirit and a giving caring nature. I want to extend from ALL of us in the Ladies Division a big thank you to the Grounds Crew for how great our course is to play, Randy and Dan and all in The Pro Shop for their support all season, and finally, but not lastly, Malinda and her staff for being so attentive to us every Thursday. We are so lucky to enjoy this venue. We had our Cancer Memorial tournament Sept 17th, with Pam Rich rockin it, shooting a 64 net. A great round and she earns her name on the plaque. At last look we had who helped measure and record for us, with Austin and Taylor leading the effort. 39 Ladies hit 3 balls apiece at the #9 green. 17 made it. Pam Gross and yours truly are the grand champion whiners—having not gotten on for 3 years! That’s 9 shots that can’t find 125 yards! Maybe we need a new golf club! THE CLOSEST TO THE PIN WINNER this year is Tracie Mantia with a 4’5” sweet shot that rolled right on track. She was followed by Taryn Ouren at 5’11”, Barb Hankins with 6’3”, Jenni Whitehead made 7’5” and Gayle Foote at 8’3”. All 17 who made the green will share the over $1050 pot that . Make sure all you Avondale ‘Members’ get your Avondale Board vote in for our own Gayle Foote. We are so proud of the work and effort she puts into Avondale. translates to a lot of fun golf and great socializing after play. We wrapped up our season on August 25th with fundraising scramble to benefit Pancreatic Cancer. Our Swinging for Sandy team, Carrie Bengtson, Cheri Howard, Tara Nelson, Andrea Sadler, Ann and Julia Jaworski, Keri Schwenke and Laurie Schwenke did an amazing job raising $1870 that night. Shortly after the fundraiser, it was brought to their attention that a local woman suffering from pancreatic cancer was in dire need of financial support. She is caring for her niece and nephew following their mother’s recent death in a car accident. They were able to donate $800 to her in the form of gift cards. An incredible $1,070 was also donated to pancan.org, the non-profit patient-based advocacy group whose mission is to support patients and create hope for those affected by this terrible disease. We'll see you all next spring! UPCOMING Go out into the world and especially on the golf course and make someone smile.
