Year 3 enjoyed their first night away, and if this is a precursor to Caythorpe, then that too will be tremendously successful. The children were an absolute pleasure and a credit to our school – I will work on some picture collages and attach them privately for year 3 parents later on. I cannot thank Mrs Miller enough for the personal time she forfeits with her own family to ensure such opportunities continue. School Council Our pupils in the council have been planning their next venture, and this is to renovate the space behind the shed for use at playtimes. The council have met to decide what they wish to do, and have decided to have a ‘Bring Your Teddy for £1’ day. They will be making posters to advertise this shortly, so they tell me. children need kits in ALL week. 20th June History of Olympics WOW day—dress up is optional, there are some easy ideas in this newsletter if you would like, or your child can come in their PE Kit. 22nd June Gail Emms visit 9.30 to speak to whole school & photo opportunity 22nd June “Bring a teddy for £1” day 23rd June Olympics afternoon at the cricket pitch (parents are invited to watch if they would like to) 24th June, 11.30-3.30 Moon class to Woburn Abbey Gardens 24th June Tennis coach in school 24th June Sun class swimming 25th June Woburn garden show 27th June Moon class trip—Marston 30th June Sun class swimming 30th June 7.00pm Parents intake evening—Parkfields 1st July Parkfields induction day & “shuffle up” morning 1st July Sun class swimming 5th July, 1.30-4.00 Netball festival KS2 7th July Sports day (Friday 8th back up day in case of rain) 8th July Sun class swimming (if not sports days) 10th July, 1.30pm Leavers v Stayers cricket Gardening Moon Class continue with their project and have been driven to the Abbey Gardens. The work will be on show and I am sure your children will be able to explain it to you. Flower Festival How beautiful the flowers look! Quite remarkable. The children have asked if they would be allowed to take these home. It is my understanding from Mrs Lousada that a £2 donation would be appreciated if your child would like to keep their flower when the festival is finished. Queens WOW day By the time of going to press, we will have finished our red/white/ blue WOW day. The children will have a picnic style lunch time, and they will have the scones they make on the day to go with a 3pm picnic with families. I am hoping the weather will stay nice enough to show the country dancing they will have learned on the day, and to parade our crowns too. The children will have had a very British day of gurning, welly wanging, crown making, scone baking, rhyme skipping, country dancing and flag making. I am writing the newsletter earlier than usual, as I am fully involved all day Thursday, and I just can not wait! I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible. 11th July Moon class trip to London aquarium 14th & 15th July Sun class swimming 15th July Year 2 sleepover From Mrs Finch 22nd July Leavers assembly CLICK & LIKE OUR FACEBOOK to see the feeds. On Wednesday Moon Class visited Woburn Abbey Gardens. We had a lovely time exploring in the sun shine and identifiying bugs and plants. We were able to see some of the seeds we had planted before half term had now started to bloom. The children also saw the foundations of the temple that we have helped to create. Please see the pictures below and also our new class mascot, George, who followed us everywhere around the gardens! We began work on our Transport topic; children have been drawing self-portraits for our ‘Wheels on the Bus’ display and have been doing some number work based on passengers getting on and off the bus. We had some lovely writing about the children’s trips and visits over half-term-we thought about how we travel to different places and we made a bar chart to show how we travel to school. New this week is number sequence speed stacks-the children decided to time each match using the sand timers! Last but not least, everyone had a great time on the Queen’s birthday. Something to do at home-spot lorries and trucks: What are they carrying? How many different names can you spot-such as Eddie Stobart? Superstars of the week: Superstar Friend- Charlie Osborn / Superstar Tidy Ted Helper-Evie Mason (for helping tidy after yesterday’s activities.) Monday saw the Year 3s attend their overnight residential at the Caldecotte Xperience. We spent a glorious sunny afternoon on the rafted canoes and crate stacking followed by an evening activity on the climbing wall. It always gives us such pleasure to see those children push themselves, sometimes out of their comfort zones to achieve things they didn’t feel possible and what a great link to the Olympic Values we are looking at this term. The sunshine stayed with us the following morning as they took on water zorbing – some more successful than others! The yurts were a great success too and I have never known a year where we have had to wake the boys up in time for breakfast. Today has had a lovely red, white and blue feel and the children have shown real community spirit and are thoroughly enjoying all the activities leading up to the birthday picnic. Next week sees a tennis tournament for a selected team of year 3s as the year 4s attend their residential in York.
