That means that when the newsletter comes out and you are reading this it will already be Fall. That means the Car Shows will start to wind down, we have 3 races left for the race team and our Fall Club Activities begin. Next month is a busy day for club members and gives everyone s chance to spend the whole day with club Members. Our Club Meeting moves to Bill Bon’s Shop on Saturday for our chili Cook off. Before that you can join us at Texas Motor Speedway for Cars and Coffee to see and meet a lot of other Automobile enthusiasts with all makes and models. At 11 AM everyone starts lining up for a lap around the track. This is free so take advantage of it. Normally there is a fee to go around the track. Then proceed to Bill Boon’s shop for our meeting and food. After the meeting, head over to Birdville Stadium for Christian Classics Car Show. Enjoy the vast number of fine automobiles and great people. Enter your car or just go to look, admission is free for those looking. That will be one great day of fine autos and fellowship. Of course October finishes out our Racing Season. Come out and join us at one of the races and support your winning race team by racing with us or watching. We always feed our members well. I want to thank Ken Key for taking over as Membership Director until April. I always appreciate the help Ken gives this club. November will bring our Toy Drive and December will bring our Christmas Party (a not to miss occasion). If you want to have an entertaining night do not miss our Christmas Party. See Susan’s Activities article for details of our activities. Hope to see everyone at our upcoming activities. Mike BY THE MINUTES Rich Lemmon CMPT Meeting Sept 21 2014 Start 1710 1. Just got through watching an interesting video on a “D-drive” transmission, an infinitely variable speed transmission but with gears, capable of handling enormous amounts of torque. Here is the link: http://youtu.be/F6zE__J0YIU . Thought ya’ll might be interested in it. Well, took Project Jeep to get inspected today, it passed. Then drove it a little, listening to all the noises you can’t hear when they are sitting still. There are a few, will sort them out eventually. Are ya’ll waiting on the hellcat preview? I am, excited too. Also, if anyone is interested, the little car exhibit at Oakland Lake park is Oct 4, Saturday, from 1-5 pm. Just let me know and I can tell you how to get there. (ed. note: more details on cruise page) Well, talk at ya’ll later. Phil “In The Works” Upcoming Club Activities by Susan Brownell October 18 – meet at TMS for the coffee and cars from 8-11. At 11 I’ve been told they let people drive on the track (which is a lot of fun). Then we will ‘cruise’ to Bill’s for our annual Chili Cook-off and October meeting. For those that will need to stop between TMS and Bill’s the ‘cruise’ will be more of an informal return to town. For those that will not be going to TMS we will meet at Bill’s at about 2pm and eat sometime after that. November 15 – TMCCC Banquet November 22 – Our annual Toy Run at Allen Samuels Dodge. Date confirmed. December 6 – Christmas Party at Mercado Juarez in the Arlington Highlands, I-20 and Matlock, 5pm. Same as last year it will be buffet fajitas and a gift exchange. Cowtown Mopars newsletter now has its own email address: moparnewslettereditor@CowtownMopars.com Off The Wing by Barry Hansen Great time at TMCCC race Sept 14, Kennedale. Good weather, good food, great racing. Was told just as good or better at Ennis the week before. Last two races of the year are Oct 5 at Kennedale, and Oct 26 at Ennis. Bring a lawn chair, come out to one or both races, $10 drive right into the pits ($12 Ennis). Cheer on our mighty Cowtown Mopars, enjoy some great food and fellowship. Sunday, Oct 12, is Mopar Day at the State Fair of Texas. Several of us Cowtowners will be displaying. Come by and say hi. You know you're getting old dept...a recent Saturday evening the wife and I drove the convertible to “Grumps” in Burleson for some burgers. Took the dark and lonely back roads through Mansfield and Kennedale back home. 40 years ago would have been looking for a place to “park”. Instead drove down New Hope Rd so we could enjoy the sights and sounds of Texas Raceway and the dirt track next door. Reminded just how big and beautiful Texas is. Recent trip took us from Kansas City to Omaha. 220 miles driving through four states; Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska. Drive 220 miles in Texas and you are still 30 miles short of Houston. Speaking of Iowa and Nebraska, Highway Patrols drive Chargers. Iowa is a solid silver car with some stripes and a small state crest on the door. From a distance reminded me of Dick Landy's silver S/S Chargers. Bing.com recently posted a link to a story and pictures about a white 1964 Dodge Custom 880 convertible. A survivor, 20,000 original miles, in primo condition. Delivered new to Anna Dodge, widow of original Dodge brother Horace Dodge. Now owned by Mary Wilson, wife of Ralph Wilson, owner of the Buffalo Bills. Headed to the auction block, is expected to get 3-4 times what a pristine 880 convertible would normally get. A second 880 convertible ordered by Anna's son was delivered but never driven (he died before delivery), parked in a FL garage beside the “driver” for years. Whereabouts is unknown. Fun fact: Mary Wilson, a long time gearhead, has quite a collection of performance cars herself but her daily driver is a Chrysler PT Cruiser convertible, especially to the games. Serious slump since mid-summer for our Mopars in NHRA. US Nat's in Indy, highest finishing Mopar was Pete Farber, '69 Daytona, runner-up Pro Mod. All other Pro classes Mopar did not even make final round. I am pretty sure a Mopar won the “HEMI Shootout” though as badly as the Mopars were running that one might have been close. Carolina Nat's in Charlotte, NC rained out, winners determined at Ennis before Texas Fall Nat's. Carolina Nat's winners were Tony Schumacher T/F, Matt Hagan F/C. Texas Fall Nat's, Ennis, TX, Tony Schumacher repeated as T/F champ. On a happier note, American Le Mans Series, Sep 20 in Austin, factory Viper SRT team took one and two in their class, really embarrassing the factory Corvette team. Never ask a man what he drives. If he drives a Mopar he'll tell you. If he doesn't, why embarrass him further? (with apologies to Jim Wright) The Go Fast(er) Department Mark Buchanan - Race Team Coordinator HEY TWELVE TIME TMCCC CHAMPIONS!!!!
