Dear Parents/Caregivers
Tena Koutou Katoa
Nga mihi atu kia Koutou i teenei waa
Greetings to you all
Welcome everyone to 2014, a special welcome to the new
families who have joined us this year. I am sure you will
find the Vardon School community a warm and welcoming
place to be a part of. We also have three new teachers
joining us this year, Miss Wyllie in Room 15, Miss Woolf in
Room 13 and Mrs Driver in Room 6. Welcome to the team!
A key part of our curriculum in term 1 is the Aquatics
programme which covers water safety as well as stroke
development. This year we are using Kelly Sport who
provide specialist instructors to help deliver our programme.
This is a significant investment from the Board and was
driven by the high number of drowning we have in New
Zealand each year. Please ensure your children have their
togs every day so they can enjoy the targeted instruction
the Board has invested in.
One of the big challenges we face at Vardon School is
providing exciting, fun and relevant ‘Education Outside the
Classroom’ (EOTC) at a cost that is accessible to all our
families. The cost of trips has increased dramatically
recently due to the increased cost of hiring a bus. I would
like to remind everyone that the school provide an
Automatic Payment facility to help spread the cost of the
various activities we provide. Many families have started an
AP of $5 a week and used it to pay for stationery, trips,
shows, camp and the school donation. If a family runs up a
credit we will reimburse them at the end of the year. If you
would like to take up this option there are forms available at
the office.
On behalf of Vardon School staff
and children we would like to welcome
the following children to our school:

Kia ora koutou katoa,
Welcome back to another school year.
The Sustainable Transport team are preparing for another successful ‘Bike Wise event,’ which will be held at
Claudeland’s Park on Sunday 23rd February 2014 this year.
Please invite your families to come along. The day will be filled with fun educational activities which include biking
demonstrations, cycle skills training, bike maintenance checks, fun games, bike races, stalls, loads of giveaways and
you can even win some amazing prizes. It's free and fun for all the family.
This year we are also extending an invitation to school groups to come and set up a stall to fundraise for those end of
year trips or special events. We have stall spaces available if anyone wants to take up the opportunity. For more
information you can contact Vera MacDonald on 838 6871 or vera.macdonald@hcc.govt.nz.
We look forward to working with you throughout 2014.
