November 2015
On behalf of the entire Citrus Park Staff, we would like to welcome back our returning Citrus Park
residents and especially our new tenants, who are spending their first season with us. We hope you had a
pleasant summer and are ready for a warm and exciting winter with us here in Citrus Park.
Please take note of a few friendly reminders:
-
The Administration Office will be closed for lunch from 12:30 – 1:30 Monday thru Friday.
When contacting the Office at 239-992-3030 you will be prompted to our telephone
directory. Please listen carefully to the entire message as all of our extensions will be listed.
Example; Receptionist is extension 100, Mobile Home Representative is extension 130 and
the RV Representative is extension 140. Please use the automated system to call in any
visitors or guests that you might be expecting at 239-992-8144.
-
The staffed mailroom hours will be from 12:15 – 3:15 P.M. Monday thru Friday. Our
postal delivery takes place between 11 a.m. and noon during the week. For this reason our
goal is to have that day’s received mail in your mailbox by 3 p.m. For any mailroom
questions or concerns please contact Mandy Soards at 992-3030 ext. 200. Make sure you give
a warm welcome to our new mailroom staff member Sandy Smith! She might be new to our
Citrus Park team but most certainly not new to the postal service workforce.
-
A $20.00 processing fee will apply for any APPROVED applications for additions, electric
upgrades, sheds and concrete. This fee is due upon receipt and pickup of your permit
authorization letter in the Administration Office. Denied applications will be returned to the
applicant at no charge. Expect a 5 to 10 day turn around for your application to be processed.
Important: Only 1 shed is permitted on a site. If you upgrade your shed then you must
remove the old one! Taking a shed from another site and placing it elsewhere without a City
Permit is subject to a fine through Code Enforcement.
-
Please note that any vendor you decide to use for work on the outside of your home must
have their insurance and liability information on file at the Administration Office. Otherwise,
Citrus Park will not permit them to work on the property. Please make certain the vendor you
intend to use has provided this information to the Administration Office in advance.
-
It has been mandated that ALL bulk items (TV’s, sofas, beds, mattresses, appliances etc.) be
placed in our designated location next to our recyclable container at the Clubhouse parking
lot. Please do not contact Advance Disposal as they will not pick up any curb side items!! NO
CONSTRUCTION DEBRIS!! Violators will be fined.
-
The cost for a new or replacement bar code on your vehicle is $20.00, which is available
between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Barcodes are available to homeowners ONLY!
For continued up to date information and application forms (i.e. background/credit checks), visit our
website at www.mycitruspark.com. Be sure and like us on Facebook (My Citrus Park) for pictures,
videos, events and the latest Citrus Park highlights.
Welcome back!!

5 foods to buy in November
Brussels Sprouts
This vegetable may not have been your favorite thing to eat as a child, but it’s an excellent source of vitamin C, which
makes it a great food to include in your diet during the cold and flu season. A cruciferous vegetable, Brussels sprouts are
packed with anti-cancer compounds which flush out carcinogens and may also help prevent tumour growth.
Cabbage
Rich in vitamins C and K, cabbage is also a top-rated food for cancer prevention. Eating more cabbage may help lower
your risk of breast, colon and prostate cancers. Plus, new research shows eating this type of cruciferous vegetables could
help keep your immune system functioning at top-notch.
Carrots
Not just for rabbits, carrots are significant health benefits for humans, too. Beta-carotene, which gives carrots their
bright orange colour, is a carotenoid which converts to vitamin A in the body, and may help improve your night vision.
Plus, carotenoids like beta-carotene are also proven to protect against cancer.
Leeks
Leeks are a great ingredient to add flavour to sauces, soups, casseroles and stir-fries, while also providing a good source
of dietary fibre, iron and vitamin C.
Winter Squash
Squash is an excellent source of antioxidants and immune boosters. Beta-carotene converts to vitamin
A in the body–essential for healthy eyes and bone growth. Winter squash is also rich in potassium, which may help
lower your risk of developing high blood pressure.

Lost or forgotten items can be turned into the
Activities Office where we have a lost and found box.
Last season I had many complaints regarding the trash
situation in the Clubhouse. If you have an event or social
gathering, the Activities Office will provide you with
enough trash bags for your event. If you come across an
empty can without a bag, please DO NOT throw in your
trash. Let us know in the Office and we will take care
of it. If your social gathering is over, please empty and
replace the bags. The trash compactor is
located right outside behind the Clubhouse.
If the trash situation continues we will have to enforce a
security deposit for each event that you schedule.
Group leaders; please make sure everything is cleaned
and stored away before the new group starts. Your
reserved time includes both SET UP and CLEAN UP.
Clubhouse reservations are taken on a first come first
serve basis.
Clubhouse furniture shall not be removed from
clubhouse at any time.
No glitter or confetti is allowed in the clubhouse facility.
If tape is used, it must be removed completely from all
surfaces.
Wishing everyone a safe and Happy
Thanksgiving. The thought for the
month: Laugh, Laugh, Laugh. The
most we can do is our best.

Relay for Life
Relay for Life is a support group which generates funds to
support the American Cancer Society’s programs.
The Sassy Survivors of Citrus Park is the Relay for Life
team in our retirement community and we hold
fund-raisers so we and other survivors of cancer will be able
to celebrate more birthdays. If “the Big C” has touched
your life and you are interested in “paying back” or
“paying forward” for the technology and T.L.C. which
have given you hope, please contact Ginny Bernstorf,
team leader of the Sassy Survivors, at 239-992-3365.
During the craft show in December, Sassy’s Coffee house
will be our first fund - raiser of the season. This event will
be held in the Clubhouse. We prepare and serve hot beverages, delicious brunch dishes and some home-prepared
baked goods.
Ukulele Group
Join our cool and crazy Ukulele Group this season and
learn a new hobby that will give you a new outlook,
better health, opportunities to help others, and a whole
bunch of new friends. Don’t worry if you’ve never played
an instrument, don’t sing so well, or don’t know music.
Call Sherri Bruder- 239-564-7437 or email
sherri.bruder@gmail.com for questions or help with
obtaining a uke. Then show up at the Clubhouse on
Tuesdays at 2:00 or Saturdays at 10:00 for a life changing
experience.
Saturday, December 12, the Ukulele Group is inviting all
our friends and neighbors to join us for a concert by
Ukulele/Banjolele virtuoso, Peter Moss, who is traveling
from England to perform for us in Citrus Park. He will
do a concert following the Pancake Breakfast at 10:00
and then a ukulele workshop. So come to the Pancake
Breakfast (8:00-10:00) and then stay for a morning of
music. If you missed him last year, here’s your chance.
Not for uke players only!! No tickets necessary, but we
will accept donations. Thank you. Call Sherri Bruder
239-564-7437 for information.

this Veterans’ Day as it has for the past 96 years.
We would like to thank everyone at Citrus Park for
all of the cards and phone calls during Alma’s illness
and after she ended her journey in this life.
The blessings and support showed us how many
friends Alma had and how much she will be missed.
Numerous residents of Citrus Park have served the cause of
freedom at home and abroad; thus, we honor and thank each
during Veterans’ Day 2015. Among those veterans who
responded to my invitation to be a part of this
celebration and recognition of their patriotism are:
Jim Seagraves (U.S.Army Intelligence) during Viet Nam, Al
Tully, WWII, (U.S. Air Force, P-38 pilot),
John Konwinski ( US Army 1959-62, served at an
anti-aircraft missile base in Germany), Bob Bernstorf
(U.S.M.C., WWII, and U.S. Army Reserve). We salute all
veterans, especially, those who are our friends and neighbors
who have protected our nation and other nations, as well.
