Welcome to the 2016 Sonoma Harvest Wine Auction
It is our great pleasure to welcome you into the heart of our community as we travel
“From Sonoma to Marrakesh” for a sublime celebration of Sonoma’s world-class wine
region. Our vintners and winegrowers, who embody the generous spirit and convivial
hospitality that Sonoma County is known for, are eager to share the sensory wonders of
our world-class wine and cuisine as we make a difference in the future of Sonoma County.
Named one of the top three U.S. Charity Wine Auctions by Wine Spectator, the Sonoma
Harvest Wine Auction, sponsored by TricorBraun WinePak, is co-chaired by three
individuals who demonstrate community leadership, dedication to innovation and a
commitment to helping others. They carry forth a long-standing tradition of neighbors
and friends working together to contribute to the continuous betterment of our
vibrant community.
As a result of your kind generosity, the Sonoma Harvest Wine Auction has distributed
more than $20 million to local non-profits over the years. These funds have been used
to enrich lives and support local children and families through literacy and health and
wellness programs, providing a foundation for the future leaders of Sonoma County.
We are particularly focused on our Fund the Future initiative—a multi-year commitment
to improving children’s literacy across Sonoma County. There is no issue more central
to the long term well-being of our communities than that of early childhood education.
Our Fund the Future program will benefit many outstanding programs in 2016, including:
Schools of Hope (United Way of the Wine Country), Pasitos Playgroups & AVANCE
(Community Action Partnership), Accelerated English program (Healdsburg Education
Foundation), Project Learn (Boys & Girls Club of Sonoma Valley) and Summer Reading
and Writing Academy & Grade Level Proficiency Project (Sonoma Valley
Education Foundation).

IF KIDS CAN READ, THEY WILL SUCCEED
Did you know that if kids cannot read by third grade, studies indicate:
• They are less likely to complete high school
• They face fewer job prospects
• They are more likely to be involved in crime
Your participation in the Sonoma Harvest Wine Auction changes the future for at-risk kids,
and improves the quality of life for our community now and for generations to come.
Today in Sonoma County, more than half of all third grade students (54%) read below
proficiency levels. Teaching our kids to read provides the keys to unlock their futures,
promising them a lifetime of learning, growing, leading and helping others.
Closing the literacy gap is also a smart investment. Closing the gap will result in nearly $800
million of increased economic output, thousands of jobs, and $53 million in new revenue for
Sonoma County over the next ten years.
Our multi-year Fund the Future goal is to help Sonoma County dramatically increase
the third grade literacy rate. Join us in supporting this life-changing initiative for Sonoma
County children. In 2015 we set a record with more than $1,985,000 in contributions for
third grade reading programs through Fund the Future. Thanks to your Fund the Future
donations over the last three years, more kids are in reading programs than ever before.
Even with this tremendous progress, there is still need. Together, we’re improving the lives
and prospects of children throughout Sonoma County.

2015 Fund the Future Programs
Fund the Future proceeds will be shared by several of Sonoma County’s most powerful and
effective children’s literacy programs.
Community Action Partnership Sonoma County: Pasitos
Playgroups
Pasitos is an educational playgroup program designed to provide low-income, Spanishspeaking parents and their three to four-year-old children an engaging and structured
learning environment that promotes parent-child interactions to improve school readiness.
Parents receive education regarding parenting, nutrition, child development and school
expectations, as well as weekly book bags to encourage daily reading. As a result of the
resounding success of the 2015 Sonoma Harvest Wine Auction, Sonoma Wine Country
Weekend was able to fund 10 Pasitos Playgroups that serve more than 131 children
and their parents from Cloverdale to Petaluma, and Forestville to Sonoma Valley. Of the
participating parents, 73% now read to their children five or more times per week compared
to 28% who read five or more times per week prior to participation in the program. In
addition, 96% increased their knowledge of their role as their child’s first and most important
teacher, and 99% increased their knowledge of the importance of reading to their child.
Community Action Partnership Sonoma County: AVANCE
AVANCE (Spanish for progress or advancement) is a nationally recognized, evidence-based
parent education program that reaches Spanish-speaking, low-income and isolated families.
This intensive program teaches participants crucial parenting skills and encourages parents
as their child's first teacher. Parents learn how to make tools to enhance parent-child
communication, stimulate language development and teach their children school readiness
skills. Parents also learn how to access community resources, and are encouraged and
supported in setting goals to increase their own education and skills to foster their family’s
economic stability. Sonoma Wine Country Weekend funds six AVANCE classes across
Sonoma County providing 140 parents with the tools they need to be their child’s first—and
most important—teacher.
United Way of the Wine Country: Schools of Hope
Schools of Hope is an Early Grade Reading Initiative that helps children build the critical
reading skills needed to succeed in school and life. Through Schools of Hope, United Way
of the Wine Country recruits, trains and places community volunteers in the schools who
then work one-on-one with kindergarten through third grade students during the school
day to supplement the work they are doing in the classroom. Because of funding received
from Sonoma Wine Country Weekend, Schools of Hope is now able to service 600 students
from 29 schools across Sonoma County. Additionally, United Way of the Wine Country has
distributed nearly 3,200 School Readiness Backpacks to families in Sonoma County.
Healdsburg Education Foundation: Accelerated English Program
The Healdsburg Education Foundation (HEF) raises funds to support K-12 education for all
students in the Healdsburg area public schools and directs resources to educational programs
that will have the greatest impact on student learning. HEF also empowers the Healdsburg
area public schools to take on innovative curricula and practices that they would otherwise
not be able to offer to their students. Sonoma Wine County Weekend is proud to support
innovation with the addition of the Accelerated English Program, which aims to increase the
English proficiency of students thus allowing them to fully access grade level instruction.

Sonoma Valley Education Foundation: Summer Reading
and Writing Academy
The Sonoma Valley Education Foundation piloted this camp-like reading program in
a district where only 30% of third graders were reading at grade level. At the Summer
Reading Academy kids spend five hours a day reading books and engaging in activities
that not only improve their reading skills, but also develop a true love for reading. Sonoma
Valley Teachers also learn from the Academy through training opportunities to help students
improve their reading. In 2013 the Summer Reading Academy served only 75 children,
however, because of funding from Sonoma Wine Country Weekend, the 2015 Summer
Reading Academy helped 300 children become better prepared for school in the fall.
Boys and Girls Club of Sonoma Valley: Project Learn
Project Learn is a nationally recognized, evidence-based program that trains Club
staff to use all areas and programs in the Club to create opportunities for high-yield
learning activities. These include: leisure reading, writing activities, discussions with
knowledgeable adults, helping others, homework assistance and tutoring and games
that develop young people’s cognitive skills. Project Learn also emphasizes parent
involvement and collaboration between Club and school professionals as critical factors
in creating the best after-school learning environment for Club members.
Sonoma Valley Education Foundation: Grade Level Proficiency
Project Writing Academy
The Grade Level Proficiency Project, which was piloted in the 2013 academic year, works
to ensure that every student participating will reach or exceed grade level proficiency in
reading by the end of third grade using a combination of advanced software applications
and specialized teacher training. The program provides individually paced learning,
addressing the individual needs of the students and a professional development model that
includes real time, in- class coaching for educators. Students participating in the program
for at least six months are showing incredible results with an average 375% increase in the
number of students reading at or above grade level. Second Graders at one school even
increased the percentage of students reading at grade level from 8% to 66%.

implied of any item. No statement in the catalog or made at the sale, or elsewhere, shall be
deemed such a representation, warrant or any assumption of liability.
A bid is entered by raising your numbered bid card and being acknowledged by the auctioneer.
Absentee Bidders will be represented by a proxy who will bid on their behalf. Bids once made
may not be withdrawn.
The highest bidder acknowledged by the auctioneer shall be the purchaser. In the event of any
dispute between bidders, the auctioneer shall have sole and final discretion either to determine
the successful bidder or to re-offer and resell the article in dispute. If any dispute arises after the
sale, Sonoma Wine Country Weekend sale records shall be conclusive in all respects.
Video recording of the auction will constitute the final record of the sale of all auction lots.
Upon the fall of the hammer, or when the Auctioneer says “sold”, title of the auction item shall
pass to the highest bidder who thereupon assumes full risk and responsibility for payment
thereafter. Bidders will not be asked to sign bid sheets or confirm their bid during the auction.
All bidders are required to provide credit card information prior to the event that will be assigned
to your numbered bid card. You will have 14 days after the auction to change your preferred
payment method.
All sales are final. There are no refunds.
The Auctioneer is not responsible for errors in bidding by anyone. Please double check your
catalog and bid on the correct items. Merchandise and service values stated are good faith
estimates by the donor.

The Super Silent Auction bidding begins at 12:30 PM and closes at 7:00 PM.
A bid is entered by printing your name and bid number and amount of bid on the sheet in
front of the corresponding item. Bids below minimum will not be accepted.
Bids should be in whole numbers and must be equal to or exceed the minimum bid stated
on the Super Silent Auction board.
Submitted bids cannot be retracted.
Announcements will be made regarding the closing of the Super Silent Auction and take
precedence over written closing times.
In the event of a dispute, the auction chair shall have sole discretion to determine the
successful bidder.

Bidders may immediately win a Super Silent Auction Item by placing their bid number in the
Guaranteed Bid Box at the bottom of the Silent Auction Bid Sheet. A bidder automatically wins
the item by bidding at the premium bid amount listed. A Guaranteed Bid immediately finalizes
and closes all bidding on this item.

If you’ve been looking for a good reason to escape to Cuba, this is your chance! Your
adventure for two begins with dinner at the private home of Tyge William’s Proprietors
Darius and Sarah Anderson. You’ll view their remarkable Cuban art collection, dine on
seasonal cuisine prepared by a master chef and indulge in the award-winning wines of
Tyge William. Guess who else is joining? Legendary Sonoma County Winemaker Don Van
Staaveren will be in attendance, pouring wines and sharing tales from behind the barrel.
Then, it’s off to Cuba, an island nation known for natural beauty, warm people, inspiring
art, and the ultimate in cigars. Join an intimate group and the Andersons, who have
pulled out all the stops for this fully-immersive expedition. You’ll explore Old Havana on
a walking tour to see Plaza Vieja, Plaza de Armes, and Plaza San Francisco. Lunch will
be served at El Rum Rum (Cuban slang for “gossip”), a dining destination steeped in
rum and Cuban cuisine. Also, on day one, you’ll get together with world-famous Cuban
Filmmaker Miguel Coyula for a meet-and-greet before you sit down to a luxurious dinner
at Mediterráneo Habana, a farm-to-table, organic eatery in the heart of Havana.
Day two finds you in the company of Economist Rafael Betancourt who will be eager
to discuss Cuba’s financial future over drinks and snacks. After this invigorating
experience, head to lunch at Café Laurent, home of Cuba’s “chicest gastronauts,”
before visiting the shopping district of Calle Obispo and Papa Hemingway’s favorite
watering holes, La Floridita and Ambos Mundos. That evening, you’ll dine, wine and
enjoy a performance by the Buena Vista Social Club by meeting with Cuban Sommelier
Orlando Blanco and dining at Café Orient, one of Havana’s grandest restaurants. Get
a good night’s sleep, because the following morning you’re headed to Hemingway’s
House, Morro Castle and one of Havana’s museums, along with lunch at El Litoral. The
evening’s entertainment includes dinner at Paladar Rio Mar and a meet-and-greet with
the owner, Sommelier Alejandro Herrera, before experiencing an amazing show at
the Tropicana.
What would Cuba be without cigars? You’ll visit the workshop of Jose Ernesto, Master
Humidor Craftsman, at Humidors of Habana. You’ll dine at the home of José Fuster,
a Cuban naïve artist specializing in ceramics, painting, drawing, engraving, and
graphic design, where you’ll meet his son, Alex, before you head out to a cigar rolling
demonstration and rum tasting with Master Habanos Sommelier Fernando Fernandez.
Tonight? It’s dinner at Paladar La Guarida and a Salsa lesson at the Hotel Inglaterra. For
history buffs, the next day delivers you to the Colon Cemetery, Cathedral of Havana,
the San Jose Crafts Market, visits to artists’ private studios, dinner at the home of Artist
Kadir Lopez, and a private concert with singer/songwriter Carlos Varela.

Under the sun in the Valley of the Moon, B.R. Cohn Winery has been producing
small lot, vineyard designated wines since 1984. Founder and local legend Bruce
Cohn, manager of the Doobie Brothers from 1970 until 2015, purchased this uniquely
beautiful land in 1974 and developed the Olive Hill Estate Vineyard under the
mentorship of industry icon Charlie Wagner. With an unmistakable eye for talent, Bruce
recruited Helen Turley from the cellars of Gundlach Bundschu to produce his first five
vintages. In the 1990s, he brought in another young talent, Merry Edwards, to craft
wines for B.R. Cohn, also for five vintages. This cellar-enhancing auction lot features 10
vintages of magnums across four decades, including inimitable wines handcrafted by
Turley and Edwards. You’ll also join Bruce Cohn for a private, multi-course dinner for

Peggy Markel has been leading Culinary Adventures to Morocco for more than 14
years. She will share deep local connections and an insider’s view of this magical
country with you. Enjoy an intimate introduction to Berber culture and cuisine as you
experience a friends’ welcome in three of Morocco’s jewels: Marrakesh, the Atlas
Mountains and Essaouira. Your journey begins in the mystical city of Marrakesh, where

From this oasis in the outskirts of Marrakesh, you will begin your exploration of
Moroccan culture and cuisine with visits to the souks and markets, private cooking

This new luxury sporting club features the only West Coast Sporting Clays Course designed by
globally renowned shooting instructor Chris Batha. Wing & Barrel’s dedicated team, trained to
the highest standards of the sport in skill as well as safety, will guide guests through a unique
combination of French Parcours, Traditional British and Modern American Sporting Clays
using Beretta shotguns. You’ll also feast on a meal prepared with local wild game and freshly
foraged seafood paired with a selection of Ram’s Gate single-vineyard wines.
In the afternoon, guests travel from ranch to vineyard to explore a private behind-the-scenes
tour, tasting and seasonal small bites at Ram’s Gate Winery. Proprietor and fellow sportsman
Jeff O’Neill and his winemaking team are dedicated to producing small lot, single vineyard
Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs from some of the most sought-after vineyards in Sonoma and
Napa, including Durell, Hyde, Hudson, Ritchie, Gap’s Crown and Ulises Valdez Vineyards.
The vineyard tour and barrel tasting culminate with an intimate dinner at the winery where
the evening’s menu will be designed to complement Ram’s Gate’s wines with locally-sourced

. Sonoma Harvest Wine Auction (SHWA) and Chateau St. Jean reserve the right to refuse admission to, or excuse

attendance from, any or all Auction events.
2. The SHWA is not responsible for the accuracy of lot descriptions written in the catalog or verbally stated during
the Auction, including statements relating to the origin, age, rarity, condition or general quality of wines. All
statements by the Auction pertaining to lots are statements of opinion and are not to be considered warranties or
representations of fact. Bidders, by bidding, acknowledge that they have inspected the wines to their satisfaction
and are bidding based on their own evaluation.
3. Any changes, additions or revisions of lots shall be announced either as a written or verbal communication by
the auctioneer or by an authorized representative of the Auction.
4. All bids are “per person or per lot.” The Auction or auctioneer reserves the right to divide or combine lots as seen fit.
5. Each successful bidder is responsible for the full price of the lot. Lots must be paid for prior to their release to the
bidder and removal from the auction site.
6. All bidders are required to provide credit card information prior to the event that will be assigned to your
numbered bid card. Your credit card will not be charged until you make a purchase at the event and you will have
14 days after the auction to change your preferred payment method. Receive complimentary shipping on your
Auction purchase when you register and pay with your VISA Signature card. Non-Visa Signature purchases will be
responsible for shipping costs.* We accept cash, checks payable to Sonoma Valley Vintners & Growers Foundation,
VISA, MasterCard, or American Express. Cashier or certified checks are acceptable. Company or personal checks
will be accepted with the presentation of two recognized forms of identification.
7. Bidders will be required to pay applicable sales taxes unless a valid resale permit is presented at the time
payment is made.
8. All lots including travel must be arranged for and redeemed prior to Labor Day 2017, unless otherwise stated.
Booking airfare and lodging early increases your chances of traveling on the dates you select. Please note all
blackout dates, expiration dates and restrictions as stated in the Auction Catalog or mentioned by the auctioneer.
9. All gift certificates, event and travel lots are non-transferable. Items may not be returned to donors for exchange
or refund. All sales are final.
LIVE AUCTION
1. The auctioneer shall have the right to withdraw a lot or reject a bid as seen fit at any time prior to the fall of the
hammer for the lot in question.
2. Should a dispute arise between bidders, the auctioneer shall have the right to resolve the dispute, re-offer the lot
or withdraw the lot in question.
3. No bid shall be valid unless acknowledged by the auctioneer. At the fall of the hammer, the highest acknowledged
bidder shall be deemed to have purchased the lot and is then responsible for full payment and pickup.

Sonoma Harvest Wine Auction and Sonoma Wine Country Weekend are widely publicized events in all varieties
of medium.
As a condition of and in consideration for participation in any portion of SHWA events, participant releases the
Sonoma Valley Vintners & Growers Alliance and the SHWA from any liability connected with the reproduction,
adaptation, display, publication and distribution, in any and all media, whether now known or yet to be
developed, of any videos, photographs, recordings or other images taken of the participant at any of the
SHWA events, participant’s name, voice, likeness, city of residence, or any other information regarding his/her
participation in Sonoma Harvest Wine Auction.
