Applications • Dock pilings. • Waterfront bulkheads. • Other applications. Regulations • Compliant with Chilean standard NCh819 and AWPA (American Wood Protection Association). Certifications • The treatment is certified by Fundación Chile. ARAUCO Production Capacity ARAUCO has an annual production capacity of 45,000 cubic meters of posts, manufactured in a world class mill that uses state of the art technology in its production and control processes as well as in its environmental protection standards. Mill, Process and Quality Control ARAUCO has an annual production capacity of 45,000 cubic meters of posts. The mill, located near ports in Canteras, Chile’s VIII Region, has more than 8,500m2 of roofed surface. Its treatment cylinder, which is automatically controlled, is 24 meters long and 1.8 meters in diameter, which enables it to reach the demanding standards of Chilean as well as international regulations. Products are treated with CCA-C, an oxide-based preservative, using the Bethell process, commonly known as full cell or vacuum & pressure process. One of ARAUCO’s advantages is chamber drying the posts before the treatment process, to ensure quality treatment and timely deliveries. This drying process takes place in nine chambers that have modern automatic systems that control the drying programs. These chambers are powered by steam generated in the boilers, which are powered by biomass produced during the manufacturing process of the posts. The Canteras mill complies with all regulations and company requirements in terms of workers’ health and safety as well as the environment, going beyond what is required by law. For example, after the wood is treated with CCA-C, posts are left to stand under cover for at least 24 hours, and depending on atmospheric conditions, are subject to a thermal process lasting 12 hours that accelerates the chemical fixation to avoid solution loss from the wood and subsequent contamination. To ensure product quality, the mill has a state of the art laboratory that controls the treatment process, chemical inputs, and the preservative’s penetration and retention in the wood. This enables the treatment process to be fully monitored, and products can be assessed for compliance with the regulations under which they were manufactured. In addition, the process and treatment is permanently controlled and certified by Fundación Chile, since 1994. Our mill is certified to the following standards: ISO 14.001, CERTFOR CoC, CERTFOR SMFS, CoC y CW FSC y OHSAS 18.001. Quality control laboratory. X-ray fluorescence equipment measures the amount of preservative retained in the wood. “To be a global leader in the development of sustainable forest products” Growing the Future Growing US & Canada the Future Mexico Venezuela Colombia ARAUCO around the World For more than 40 years, ARAUCO has been driven forward by its vision of being a global leader in sustainable forest products.
