completed their Yateley Manor Gold Award.
The Gold Award is a huge achievement for
the children and is the culmination of a lot
of hard work.. They join Chris Searle and
James Li who achieved their awards earlier
in the Year.

New School Appointments
Many congratulations to our new Captains of School, Kate Treacher and Joe Tucker.
Congratulations also to Thomas Coates, Thomas Kirkpatrick, Christopher Perryman
and Lucy Webb who have all been appointed as School Prefects from September.
Good Luck and Goodbye
At the end of term we said goodbye to Carol Bryan who is retiring after 10 years
at Yateley Manor in the Modern Languages Department. Under her guidance, a
generation of children has learnt a love of French and her contribution to the annual
Year 7 French trip, the French Cafes and French cookery will be greatly missed as will her
professionalism and friendship We will miss her invaluable contribution to the school
and we send her our very best wishes for a long and very happy reirement .
We are also saying goodbye to Year 3 teacher, Hilary White, who joined us to cover
maternity leave. We will miss her and are very grateful for her contribution this year.
This is the second time Hilary has covered maternity leave for us and we hope that she
will come back again. She has our very best wishes for the future.
Caroline Greatbatch is also leaving us having helped out in Pre-Prep for two terms. This
is also Caroline’s second stint at Yateley Manor and we are grateful for the seamless way
in which she integrated into the team. We wish her well for the future.
Michael Cluett, Daniela Brogan, Vicky Taylor and Luke Storrie have been fantastic Gap
Students helping in so many ways in every department of the school. We are very
grateful to them all for their endless enthusiasm, hard work and good humour and are
delighted that their time at Yateley Manor has cemented the desire of Michael and
Daniela to become teachers. Luke is off to Southampton University to study Marine
Biology and we wish all three the very best of luck in their studies and for the future.
We are delighted that our fourth Gap Student, Vicky Taylor, will be staying at Yateley
Manor to follow the Graduate Teacher Programme.
Fiends Reunited
On Thursday 5th July Year 3 and Year 4 performed their production of Fiends Reunited
to their family and friends. The children dressed up as their favourite fairy tale characters
and the audience was treated to a reworking of some

Year 7 Normandy Trip Reminder
A reminder that children in Year 7 next academic year will need the following for their trip
to Normandy in September:
valid passport
valid EHIC medical card
soft holdall (preferably with wheels) not a suitcase
French themed costume for French evening.
Please note that the shop no longer sells
second hand uniform which has the old
fashioned ship logo on them, other than
blazers in good condition. Children may
still however wear items of uniform with
this logo on.
Early Years Funding
Congratulations to ...
If you have not already completed the Early Years Parent Declaration, please complete
the form and return it to the school office as soon as possible. Thank you
Sophie Gibson (5JCK) who came third
in her very first horse riding competition.
Sophie and her pony, Guiness, completed
two clear rounds in the Burley Lodge
Minimus Jumping event.
Jonathan Noble (4CEM) who won the
Under-16 Welly throwing competition at
the West End Village Fete for the second
year running with a throw of 16.10m
(exactly 1m more than his winning
throw last year). Jonathan won a family
swimming pass to Guildford Spectrum.
Gemma Lane (4AC) who competed in
the Hampshire County ASA Development
Competition. Gemma swam a full BAGCAT
series and was placed fifth overall in the 9
year old girls section.
Izzy Cole (6SKP) who took part in
the recent ice-skating National Team
Championships in Bracknell representing
Basingstoke. Her team came fourth,
missing a bronze medal by the narrowest
of margins – half a point!
Harry Young (5JAD) who passed his
Grade 2 piano exam.
Congratulations to ...
We apologise to Harry Young who played
for the U10A cricket team in their final
match of the season but whose name was
omitted from the team list.
If your child was born between 1 September 2007 and 31 August 2009, they will be
eligible for the Hampshire County Council Early Years Funding in the autumn term, but
only if they will not be attending a state school (nursery, special or infant/primary, or unit
attached to any of these) between 3 September – 21 December 2012.
Queen Anne’s Show Jumping Competition

squad comprises

Pepper and Pip Arris on Fizz.
Yateley Manor Kestrels (Chloe, Elysia and Jess) were first to jump in Class 1 (70 cm)
and each of the three riders and their ponies put in super performances in treacherous
conditions. Chloe and Elysia both had just eight faults while Jess managed a
spectacular double clear round. The girls finished in second
place in the team event with Jess achieving individual third
placed in the class. Well done girls!
Class 2 (80 cm) came next and again each combination or
horse and rider battled bravely against the elements but the
team were not placed in this event.
Next it was Pip’s turn. She rode as an individual and achieved
another excellent result being placed second in Class 7 (60 cm).
What a fantastic result in our first team show jumping
competition! Congratulations to all the riders and their ponies.

Year 5 Bug Challenge
On Monday Year 5 brought their Cross Curricula Art and
Science project to a close with an exciting ‘Art Attack’ project.
In Art, they had made some amazing brightly coloured fish,
which included all sorts of wonderful adaptations based on
their scientific knowledge. Their challenge for the afternoon
was to make the habitat for their fish, ensuring it was suitable
for their specific fish. Each group was given an area of floor
on which to ‘craft’ their habitat and exactly the same amount
of materials. They were allocated one hour to design and
make a background for their fish, which they then had
to explain scientifically to Mrs Washer and Mrs Saunders.
There were prizes for teamwork, best marine habitat and an
extra prize for the best 3D art effects. The children worked
extremely hard all afternoon ensuring everyone was involved
and produced some first class work, demonstrating a great
understanding of habitats. The project has been thoroughly
enjoyed by all and our thanks go to Mrs Bell who has
undertaken much of the organisation this year.
Year 3’s Adventure on Yateley Common
Last Wednesday Year 3 spent the day exploring our local area.
In the morning we donned our welly boots and walked to
Yateley Common for a treasure hunt. We followed a trail of
markers which led us through woodland and heathland (and
plenty of muddy puddles!) to a picnic spot where we stopped
for a well earned drink and snack. The trail continued in a loop
which led us eventually back to our starting point from which
we walked back to school for a picnic lunch. The ‘treasure’ at
the end was a yummy ice lolly!
In the afternoon we set off from school on foot again, this
time in the opposite direction. After a short walk we reached
Yateley Green where we enjoyed the adventure playground
and playing field. We all had sore feet at the end of an
energetic day. Many thanks to the accompanying adults for
their help on the trip.
Year 4 Visit Kew Gardens
Year 4 visited Kew Gardens for their end of term trip. The children had a lovely
time walking around the stunning gardens. Some groups visited the palm house
to see the more exotic plants while others toured the gardens of Kew Palace
where only plants that were popular in England by the 17th century are grown.
A highlight of
the day was the
tree top walk
which at 18m
high took the
children on a
stroll amongst
the tree canopy
giving them a
wonderful view
of the rest of
the gardens. A
lunchtime picnic
was enjoyed by
everyone.

Years 5, 6, 7 and 8 Residential Trips
Years 5, 6, 7 and 8 all had very successful but very wet and muddy residential trips during Residential week.
Year 7 travelled to the Isle of Purbeck in Dorset to complete the field work for their Common Entrance Geography project. They carried
out studies on the villages of Swanage and Corfe, looked at the geology of the Jurassic coastline and visited Durlston County Park to
look at sustainability. The walk over the hills to Corfe Castle began under a clear sky but finished in torrential rain and the children were
all very grateful for the steam train ride back to Swanage.
Years 5 and 6 both went on PGL Adventure Weeks; Year 5 at Liddington and Year 6 at Osmington Bay. The pupils undertook a huge
range of activities including abseiling, archery, giant swing, quad biking, orienteering, fencing, climbing, aeroballing, canoeing, vertical
challenge, body boarding. Despite the very wet weather the children managed nearly all the activities planned and everyone had a
wonderful time.
Year 8 spent the week camping at Bushcraft’s Pylewell Park! They were taught how to light a fire which they used for cooking all their
food. Other highlights included learning about traps and camouflage, building shelters which they slept out in one dry night and the
game of ‘nightline’ . The week finished with the Bushcraft Challenge when the children were tested on everything that they had learnt.
Despite the weather and the mud thechildren all agreed that it was a fantastic week and that food cooked over an open fire tastes
delicious.

What do you do at Yateley Manor?
I organise the School’s marketing and do some of the admin too. This includes writing INAMOS each week!
What did you do before working here?
I worked in admin in the Department of Medicine at the Hammersmith Hospital in London. Between that and working at Yateley
Manor I was a full time mum for eleven years.
How long have you been here?
I am finishing my eleventh year in the office.
Where in the world do you want to go and see and why?
My son has just returned from a Gap year trip and particularly enjoyed visitng New Zealand. There is so much to see; volcanoes,
glaciers, hot springs and fjords all in one place.
What is the best advice you have been given?
My parents had several sayings that they often used. At the time I did not really place any value on them but as I have got older I
have recognised that they are very good advice and try to live by them; treat others the way you would like to be treated, If a job is
worth doing it is worth doing well and honesty is the best policy
What is the strangest thing that has happened to you?
We were relocating back to England from South Africa and came over to look for a house and a school. We had looked at several
schools but none seemed right and on our final day we, took a wrong turn and by chance, drove past the entrance to Yateley Manor.
It was a Saturday so we were not expecting anyone to be in the school but we drove into the car park to take a look and were met by
Richard and Michael (our Maintenance Men) who were about to go home but asked if they could help us. They then unlocked the
school and showed us around and the following Monday, back in South Africa, we telephoned and reserved spaces for our children
on the basis that with people working in the school who cared so much about it and who made such an effort to help, the school
must be something special. Three children and 14 years later I am still here. Not really a strange event but an example of how a
chance encounter can really change the course of your life.
Is there anyone who inspires you/is your hero?
No one in particularly but in general people who appear to be in control of their lives and who manage all the different areas of their
lives. I never seem to be up to date with everything at the same time and am always chasing my tail.
If you had to do a job other than this one, what would it be (regardless of qualification or skills needed)
I would love to have been a doctor.
What is your favourite book?
I enjoy a variety of books but the ones that stand out most are Charlotte Grey and Birdsong by Sebastian Faulkes, Ken Follett’s Pillars
of the Earth and In Pale Battalions by Robert Goddard. All have a historical basis and all kept me completely engrossed.
What is your favourite film?
I rarely watch films but I really do like watching a bit of murder on tv: Lewis, Midsumer Murders or anything similar.
Have you met any celebrities?
I have met several but most recently Lewis Moody at a wedding and yes he is just as attractive in real life and very charming too!
If you could drive any car, what would it be?
As long as a car is comfortable, reliable and will get me from A to B, I would be happy with almost anything. If I was forced to choose
I guess it would be a convertable in the summer and something with an automatic defrost in the winter.
Batman or Superman?
Neither - superheroes are not my thing at all. .
Custard or Cream?
Definitely both
Cats or Dogs?
We have had cats and a dog in the past but have neither at the moment. I would love to have a dog again one day.
Money or Happiness?
Happiness of course, though with three children money would help.
