ANFIELD SCHOOL 安菲爾學校
The British Curriculum School in Hong Kong
Welcome to the Anfield School e-Newsletter…
Dear Parents,
Another academic year is at an end – a most productive and successful 3rd year for us at
Anfield, with all students achieving well. The school and staff will be enjoying a
well-deserved rest!
As is usually the case at this time of year in International Schools, some staff members
are moving on to pastures new. We would like to wish the following teachers and
teaching assistants who are leaving Anfield this term lots of luck, success and happiness
for the future: Mr. David, Ms. Fiona and Ms. Katie are settling in the U.K.; Mr. Andy
and Ms. Rachel Boylan are extending their experience in schools within Hong Kong;
and Ms. Rachael de Bourne is fulfilling her lifelong ambition to live in Japan. We thank
them all for the valuable contribution that they have made to the development of
Anfield School.
We have a number of UK trained teachers joining Anfield in August. They come highly
recommended, with extensive experience and are very motivated to be joining our
Anfield family as we continue to grow and develop. We will be welcoming Ms. Clare
Azzopardi, Ms. Jacqueline Ashie, Ms. Rachel Li, Mr. Ben Williams and Ms. Elizabeth
Grundy to our class teacher teams. Mr. Jamie Millar joins us as PE/EAL teacher and Ms.
Sharon Wallis takes over as Music teacher. Ms. Emma Kent-Jones is our new SEN
(Special Educational Needs) Teacher who will be based in the St. Bosco Centre, our
newly created SEN classroom.
I am also delighted that Ms. Kate Cochrane has taken on the role of Key Stage 2 Leader,
looking after students and staff in years 3, 4 and 5, as well as being the Year 5 class
teacher.
The success of Anfield School is ultimately down to the dedication and teamwork of
parents, staff and students. We must also thank the Friends of Anfield for their
contribution to the promotion of home/school links and for their many fundraising
events. I wish you and your families a restful summer break!
Kind regards,
Vicky Davies

END OF YEAR PERFORMANCE
END OF YEAR PARTY
FoA
It has been a busy year for the Friends of Anfield with plenty of enjoyable and exciting
activities. Festive events that we have helped to organise include Christmas, Chinese
New Year and Easter parties. The pyjama reading party during Book Week is a new
event that we have received much positive feedback on. We hope our regular Fruit
Friday has helped the children to develop a palate for a wide variety of fruits and the
concept of buying things with money. Our Anfield children have very much enjoyed
all these fun filled moments, including our final event which was the end of year party.
Last, but not the least, thank you to all the volunteers who have given their generous
support throughout the year and all parents for your participation. We look forward
to seeing you again in August! Have an enjoyable summer!
BACK TO SCHOOL
Autumn term starts on Monday 25th August 2014.
Please note that for the week beginning Monday 25th August until Friday 5th
September, school finishes each day at 3.30pm. The compulsory extra-curricular
activities every Monday and Wednesday will begin in the first week of September
when all the children have settled.
IN THE CLASSROOM
A weekly look at what has been happening in your child’s classroom…
YEAR 1 – Miss Kate, Miss Rachel, Mr. Craig
What an incredible year it has been!
As we look back on all the amazing moments and memories we have shared, there
have been some definite highlights - joining primary school and being all grown up,
making new friends and bonding as a class, learning, growing, playing and having fun.
We loved all of our school trips to Noah’s Ark, Pizza Express, Hairy McLary and the
Big Bhudda. We have written so many stories, poems and recounts. We’ve learnt to
tell the time, measure and add and subtract really big numbers! We have carried out
experiments, learnt to sing and perform, compared things in the past and in different
countries. We have learnt new sports and other religions. We are all the smarter now
the year is through.
The teachers and TA’s would like to thank every parent for their help and
contributions throughout the year. You have made it a truly memorable year. To those
children moving on to another school or country, we wish you luck in your new
adventure and for those children joining us in Year 2, we hope you have a terrific
summer and keep working hard ready to meet your new teachers!
Thank you for a wonderful year of memories 
YEAR 2 – Miss Danielle, Miss Rachael, Miss Katie
What an incredible year it has been for all of us at Anfield. All of the children have
worked really hard and should be proud of what they have achieved over the school
year. Our end of year performance ‘Fiends Reunited’ was an excellent showcase of the
talent we have here at Anfield.
Our final week has been action-packed with exciting events. Our talent show and class
parties have been a great way to celebrate the end of a fantastic year. We were very
impressed with all of the children who auditioned for “Anfield’s Got Talent’ and the
band organised by the Friends of Anfield was great!
This year, we have enjoyed our Year group trips such as our visits to the Church,
History Museum, Central Library, Pizza Express and the beach. The children have also
enjoyed all of our interesting topics, especially their art projects which were proudly
displayed at the Cultural Centre.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our supportive parents,
hard-working children and dedicated staff who have made this year a memorable one.
We hope you all have a well-deserved summer break and come back ready for the
new school year.
From all of the Year 2 staff,
Miss Katie, Miss Danielle and Miss Racheal
YEAR 3 – Ms. Kate
The concluding adventures of India class…
I know the next big adventure for Year 3 is waiting just around the corner and I wish
them all the happiness and success in the world. It has been a tremendous year and I
find myself filling up with tears when I think about the wonderful children I have had
the pleasure of teaching this year. It has been a privilege and a joy to teach class 3C and
I know they’ll continue to make me very proud.
We’ve ended the year by thinking about how much we have learnt and how much we
have accomplished this year and, when we thought about it, we realized it was a
staggering amount.
The end-of-year production went brilliantly. The singing was wonderful, the solo
singers sang beautifully and the actors were amazing! Thank you to Mr. Ben who did
a lot of work with the actors in years 2, 3 and 4.
The week began and ended with a show. First the concert, then a fantastic talent show!
We saw dancing, some children sang a song from Frozen, then skipping, some more
children sang a song from Frozen, gymnastics, and even more Frozen singers! As well
as Frozen, we also enjoyed magic tricks, piano playing, karate moves and all sorts of
other wonderful delights!
Friday was a difficult day, I know the children are ready for their next challenge, but
sometimes it’s hard letting go. GOOD LUCK YEAR 3! See you in August!
YEAR 4 – Mr. David
What a wonderful, successful year it has been at Anfield. I couldn’t think of a better
way to end such a super year than with our fantastic end of year performance, “Fiends
Reunited.” The level of effort and dedication the children have shown, with learning
their lines, remembering songs and actions and creating fantastic costumes and props,
has been monumental. I was so impressed with the beautiful, angelic voices of our
soloists, Jolie and Tina and we might have seen the start of two glittering musical
careers. The acting by all members of the cast was fantastic and it definitely was the
best performance to date. The children certainly have set the bar very high for next
year.
But the talent didn’t stop there as only a few days later the Friends of Anfield
showcased the variety of superstars we have at Anfield with our annual talent show.
With the range of talents, from karate to the ukulele to singing, it was too hard to pick
a winner and every finalist deserved their prize.
In the classroom, we finished the year off by dusting off our creative skills for one final
time. In design and technology, we carefully followed a recipe and weighed our own
ingredients to bake some delicious chocolate chip cookies. They were so delicious I’m
not too sure if any made it home for parents to try! In art, we finished off our
superhero topic by creating superhero bookmarks using lollipop sticks and paints.
After careful designing, the children showed great finesse using thin paintbrushes to
add detail and to make sure that colours weren’t being mixed.
On a personal note, I would like to express my extreme gratitude to all the parents and
children I have had the privilege of working with over the past two years. I have loved
every moment of my time at Anfield and I leave Hong Kong with fantastic memories,
new friends and amazing experiences.
Best Wishes,
Mr. David
