Bob sure put a rock in the middle of our
riding season. Even though we still attended
the Colorado District Rally and Wing Ding, it
just wasn't the same. Something was
definitely missing. Of course, that was the
Gold Wing. As we were leaving Wing Ding, I
really felt sorry for everyone riding in the
rain and cold. I joke about not doing wet,
but I really feel sorry for the people doing it.

of Colorado what more could you ask for?
Don’t forget our Chapter meeting is this
coming Friday at 7:00 p.m. We are
planning on having a scary bit of Halloween
fun with some yummy treats.
With the elections being over and no more
political ads everywhere, our November
gathering will fall on Veteran's Day,
November 11th. Show up in your patriotic
clothes and let’s show all of our Veterans,
First Responders, Active Military, Police
Officers, and Firemen how we feel:
Thank You for your Service!
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU
FOR YOUR CARDS AND SYMPATHETIC
WISHES ON THE LOSS OF OUR BELOVED
DAUGHTER, MELODY. WE REALLY
APPRECIATE HOW MUCH OUR CHAPTER
MEMBERS AND COLORADO GWRRA
SUPPORTED US.
LOVE TO YOU ALL,

Weiss’ Words

Stop Already!
Over the past few years there has been a
lot of talk in Wing World, chat rooms and
Chapter meetings about stopping
distance. Mostly about what bike, trike
or reverse trike has the best stopping
distance. It’s time to put this argument
to rest.
The physical ability of any bike, trike or
reverse tike to stop is the least
important stage in stopping any
the highway pegs, then the reaction time
will be longer.
Only after a rider perceives the need to
stop, and then reacts to the need to
stop, will the bike’s ability to stop come
into play. A new or poor rider on the
best stopping bike will still crash, where
a good experienced rider on the worst
stopping bike will stop in time to avoid a
crash.
The bottom line of stopping distance is
be prepared, practice, practice, practice,
motorcycle or car for that part. If the
and be prepared to practice some more.
then even the quickest stopping bike will
Come to this week’s meeting to learn
first two stages of stopping are not met,
not stop in time.
In order to stop, the rider must first
perceive the need to stop. The rider
must see and understand that he or she
must stop, be it for a stop sign or a
moose on the loose in the middle of the
road. The rider must then react to the
need to stop. If the rider is not ready to
stop, hands off the handlebar or feet on
whose stopping distance is really the
most important to you.

How to tell.......
Hello "E"-veryone! This month's article
deals with darkness setting in early......
Now that summer is over (huge sigh!)
and winter is fast approaching, we have
I am looking forward to hearing other
suggestions from all of you at our next
meeting! Think about this question, ok?
See you soon!
noticed that it is getting darker
earlier...it's dusk at 6:30pm! So how
does a car driver distinguish between a
motorcycle headlight and a one-eyed car

at night?
Many of you might have different
answers, but the one I have come up
with (using Bill as my Guinea pig) is:
The car with the burned out head-light
will still have its running light or marker
light lit up. Whereas, with a motorcycle,
you won't see the running light or
marker light off to the side of the
headlight.
Friday, October 14, October meeting
with Halloween theme.
Friday, November 11, Veterans Day.
November meeting honoring military
and first responders. Wear patriotic
apparel.
No meeting in December! We will
have our Chapter Christmas party
luncheon on Saturday, December 3,
at Mt. Vernon Country Club.

April’s Adjectives
By April Hansen
Let’s see how well you remember what
history and the people making it have
said. Following are quotes of comments
made by people we all know. Some of the
quotes are obvious, but do you know who
said them?

2. “Diplomacy – the art of saying ‘nice
doggie’ until you can find a
7. “All that we are is the result of what we
have _________.”
8. “__________ is still the most
extraordinary computer of all.”
9. “Delay is preferable to __________.”
10. “The man who reads nothing at all is
better educated than the man who
reads nothing but _________.”
__________.”

3. “It’s not that I’m afraid to _____. I just
don’t want to be there when it
happens.”

The September 9 Chapter E Meeting
with Help from Chapter L
What a FANTASTIC meeting (29
members present, Chapters A, E, L & G)
April and Peter are on vacation so
Randall & Janet Drake of Chapter L
filled in as Treasurer, and did a really
good job of it too. They even beat me
to the meeting and I was there just a
little after 6:00pm.
Before the meeting started, Wanda
Stadel shared a story of how riding
behind Morey and having GWRRA
training help save her problems on the
way to Wing Ding. She had a right tire
blow out. Remembering what she had
learned in GWRRA classes, she safely
moved over to the right shoulder out
of traffic without any problems,
making things safer on the open road.
There was a lot of open conversation
around District Rally and Wing Ding.
Fred Fisher of Chapter L walked away

with the biggest cash prize ever:
$2,400.00. Wanda did another
awesome job of selling 50/50 tickets
Bill Weiss gave a talk about riding and
the distractions all around you as you
ride, such as people on their cell
phones and people rocking out to
music. Another thing to watch for is
things strapped to the top of vehicles
around you. Also, you should try to
stay away from large vehicles around
you, such as semis.
Then we got to take a break, or you
can say it was “goodies time.”
Following goodies time, the 50/50
drawing was held and some people
went home happy; the others went
home happy because they spent the
evening with some great friends.
