And his armourbearer said unto him, Do all that is in thine heart: turn thee; behold, I am with thee according to thy heart. Then said Jonathan, Behold, we will pass over unto these men, and we will discover ourselves unto them. If they say thus unto us, Tarry until we come to you; then we will stand still in our place, and will not go up unto them. But if they say thus, Come up unto us; then we will go up: for the Lord hath delivered them into our hand: and this shall be a sign unto us. And both of them discovered themselves unto the garrison of the Philistines: and the Philistines said, Behold, the Hebrews come forth out of the holes where they had hid themselves. And the men of the garrison answered Jonathan and his armourbearer, and said, Come up to us, and we will shew you a thing. And Jonathan said unto his armourbearer, Come up after me: for the Lord hath delivered them into the hand of Israel. And Jonathan climbed up upon his hands and upon his feet, and his armourbearer after him: and they fell before Jonathan; and his armourbearer slew after him. And that first slaughter, which Jonathan and his armourbearer made, was about twenty men, within as it were an half acre of land, which a yoke of oxen might plow. 1 Samuel 14:6-14 (KJV) ! Discussion Questions 1. If you were the armourbearer and Jonathan made this request to you, what would have been your response? 2. Why do you think this armourbearer was so committed to follow Jonathan? 3. Obviously Matthew chose to follow Jesus, but how does His response compare with the armourbearer and Jonathan? Daily Challenge November 23 – Psalm 86 Focus: Slow Down – Take time today to slow down and observe what’s going on around you, including your own life. Make sure your time is spent well, not just spent. November 24 – Psalm 54 Focus: Evaluate – Think about where you are in your walk with God. Are you where you thought you would be two years ago? Where do you go from here? Seek someone you trust for their helpful evaluation of your walk. 4. Are there certain areas of our lives that we make off limits to God? November 25 –Psalm 39 Focus: Guardrails – We don’t want to fall off track, so today think about where you want to go, and set some guardrails up in your life to keep you going there. What boundaries can you set up to make your marriage, parenting, and faith the strongest? 5. What does it look like to give all to follow Jesus? November 26 – Psalm 24 Focus: Cleanup – Clean out your car today! Think about the junk that we carry in our lives that we also need to clean up. 6. What do you think would have happened if the armourbearer had not given all? 7. How does us giving all to God change our effectiveness in living out the gospel? 8. Take a minute and write down one area they have not given to God, but are willing to pray about giving to God this week. November 27 – Psalm 25 Focus: Write – Write a note to someone you love before you read God’s word. Then as you read, remember the Bible is God’s love letter to you. November 28– Psalm 139 Focus: Count – It may be odd, but count the spoons and knives in your kitchen. Chances are you have less knives. Often, they get used for other purposes than eating. Think about how God has used you or your family in ways you may not have thought about beforehand. November 29– Psalm 74 Focus: Redo – Today take your favorite day from Thankful 30 and redo it! Think about the second chances God gives us in life. November 30– Psalm 4 Focus: Relief – You made it! Today take time to reflect on how doing the Thankful 30 made an impact on your life.
