2 Redcare Classic and Redcare GSM are not Grade 4 3
We hear lots of myths and rumours in the marketplace, so we thought we’d pull the Top Ten BT Redcare myths together and dispel them all in one go! 1 A dedicated BT line is needed for Redcare Classic and Redcare GSM A dedicated BT line is not required. Redcare Classic and Redcare GSM can work on an existing phone or broadband (including BT Infinity) line without the need for a filter. Redcare Classic and Redcare GSM will even work over a fax line with a Modem Compatibility Device (MCD) which can be easily purchased from the Redcare Shop at www.btinstallershop.com Redcare will also work on other Service Provider lines that are using BT equipment. So, it doesn’t need to be a BT contracted line. As a dedicated line is not required for Redcare Classic and GSM this can make the overall cost for your customer’s alarm signalling cheaper than other products that may require a dedicated phone line. 2 R d Redcare Classic Cl i and dR Redcare d GSM are not Grade 4 Redcare Classic and Redcare GSM have always been Grade 4 signalling. Alarm messages and polling are highly encrypted to EN Grade 4 using Redcare proprietary encryption. Software and firmware anti-substitution measures to EN Grade 4. 4 3 Bl k terminals Block i l are mandatory d when h fitting Redcare A block terminal is not mandatory. Many installers choose to have a Redcare block terminal installed to simplify alarm installation. However, connection of the STU to the line, without using a block terminal, can be carried out by the installer. BT is rolling out Fibre, ripping out copper and Redcare won’t work BT is rolling out Fibre that much is true but copper is not being ripped out and Redcare does still work. As part of BT’s super-fast broadband deployment, two solutions are being rolled out - Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC) and Fibre to the Premise (FTTP). Redcare will work with both. FTTC is where new fibre-optic cables are deployed from the exchange to the street cabinet in parallel to existing copper. The existing copper will remain to support existing copper based services such as PSTN, ISDN and traditional Redcare products. FTTP is where new fibre-optic cables are deployed the whole way to the home or office. Where a copper network is unavailable the Redcare Secure portfolio can be used as it does not rely on a copper path. 5 BT Fibre only exchanges are being rolled out which means Redcare won’t work BT announced in March 2012 a pilot fibre only exchange. However, it is only a single exchange pilot. The copper network is not being touched and customers who do not wish to be part of the pilot will not be forced. BTs strategy it to provide a mixed economy broadband service where copper is still a key part of the delivery of broadband service. This means that Redcare’s traditional products will still work. 6 Additional charges will be made if a customer moves to a new premise This is not the case. If your customer is moving premise and taking the same telephone number with them, there will be no additional charge. 8 BT Redcare is not investing in their business We haven’t just been sitting their quietly. We have been and will be continuing to invest in the business. Here are just a few of the things we have invested in over the last few years: • Re-designed and improved the Redcare STU and Redcare GSM STU • Re-designed and improved the Redcare Secure unit • Launched upload / download on Redcare Secure • Launched Redcare Secure Solo • Extended format signalling capability on Redcare Secure • Launched service in Ireland • The Redcare platform • Redcare GSM Roaming There is much more to come! 9 You can’t re-use Redcare Classic and Redcare GSM STUs This is not true. It’s different because with intelligent network selection, Redcare’s Roaming SIM firstly looks for the strongest signal and locks on to it. Not all roaming SIMs do this. No compromises. • Intelligent network selection looks for a network with a strong signal, the equivalent to 4 out of 5 bars on your mobile phone • Automatically connects to another signal in the event of failure for enhanced resilience • Doesn’t rely on a signal from a single operator - easier to install • If the connected cell goes down, we automatically connect to other available cells with no interruption in service for your customer • Intelligent selection for premium performance
