You can be part of the action at Missoula Public Library as
we celebrate International Games Day @ your library on
Saturday, November 3, 2012. Two thousand libraries around
the world will celebrate the American Library Association’s
(ALA) 5th annual event.
Play at the Library’s event starting at 10 am with board
games, Wii, and an X Box 360 with Kinect set up for you to
enjoy. There will be two competitions as well: Mario Kart
Time Trials and a Super Smash Brothers Tournament where
gamers can compete with teams from across the USA. We
also encourage you to bring your own games to play with

that were commonly used in the
homestead era. Pictures of the objects
were posted on MPL’s Facebook page
each day for a week, with patrons guessing what IT was, and how IT was used.
Only one person guessed all seven items correctly, and for that JoAnn Steen won a Nook Simple
Touch eReader. The antiques are listed below:
1. Miner’s candle holder
2. Hair crimper
3. Candle mold
4. Carpet beater
7. Shoe lacer
5. Seeder (for sowing crops)
6. Soap saver
Congratulations, JoAnn!

MPL HOSTS 2 HOLIDAY TREES
We have two opportunities for you to
give to the community this year.
Start a new Thanksgiving tradition by
selecting a gift tag from The Missoula
County Employee Council’s Giving Tree!
Tags have information about a WIC family & their needs. You can bring wrapped
items to the library by Dec. 17th.
No time to shop? Monetary donations
are also welcome. Please return money
& tags to Mary Pittaway, Nutrition Services Supervisor at the County Health
Dept., at 301 West Alder in Missoula.
Giving Tree tags will be available after
the elections.
Our Annual ToileTree Benefits the
YWCA. Toilet-what?! That’s the reaction
we usually receive when we mention
the library ToileTree. During the holiday
season we set up a tree in our lobby
that you can decorate using toiletries as
ornaments. 2012 marks the third year
the library has collected toiletries to
share with the YWCA’s domestic
violence shelter. Please help us decorate
the ToileTree again! You
bring the travel-size
toiletries (toothbrushes,
shampoo, soaps, etc.) to
adorn the tree and we’ll
top it with a festive roll
of toilet paper! We will
begin accepting toiletry
donations the week after Thanksgiving.
Contact Caroline (258-3817) for details.

FILM AND DISCUSSION ON TURKEY SET FOR DECEMBER
Turkey is often referred to as the country where “East meets West.”
Geographically, it is part of both Asia and Europe. Culturally, it
provides insights into the meeting and negotiating of diverse value
systems.
Willard High School teacher, Carolyn Grimaldi, recently participated in
a two week program in Turkey sponsored by the Turkish Cultural Foundation the World Affairs Council that left her with more questions than
answers. This program intends to spark a similar curiosity in its participants as they view the Wide Angle Lens documentary “Turkey’s Tigers:
Integrating Islam and Corporate Culture” followed by a conversation on
how complex cultural values coexist in modern Turkey. Join her at 7pm
on December 4th in the Large Meeting Room.
We welcome all people in pursuit of their freedom to read, learn, and discover.
