Plant Engineering
Did you know … AREVA has a dedicated team supplying
engineering services to the operating nuclear fleet
in Balance of Plant (BOP) areas of plant systems and
components?
AREVA’s Plant Engineering team has more than 40
years of plant design and modification experience with a
spectrum of different nuclear plant designs. Along with
major plant modifications, some of our project experience
includes mechanical and structural analyses, electrical
and I&C analyses, BOP modifications, and risk and safety
assessments.
Using AREVA’s unique experience and expertise in
all phases of design and nuclear operation, the Plant
Engineering team can ensure the most cost-effective and
workable solutions to any operational issues.
To meet dynamic needs throughout the energy industry, the
team has also been successful in transferring this expertise
to non-nuclear applications in some of its core competency
areas such as Human Factors Engineering (HFE) and
structural analysis. The combination of engineering,
product and field services capabilities allows AREVA to
deliver total plant engineering solutions to you.

Used Fuel Engineering
Did you know … AREVA TN, a division of AREVA, is a
world leader in the design, fabrication, and licensing
of used fuel and radioactive waste management and
transportation systems?
AREVA TN’s engineering and technical expertise lies in the
structural, thermal, and nuclear analysis and drafting of the
NUHOMS® system, one of many state-of-the-art products
that we offer to ensure safe and error-free storage and
transportation of used fuel and radioactive waste.
As our NUHOMS® product line continues to evolve, we
plan to introduce our new EOS (Extended Optimized
Storage) variant of the NUHOMS® in 2017, offering a higher
capacity (89 BWR, 37 PWR) and we are developing more
sophisticated storage modules that will deliver enhanced
features and seismic capabilities. Further, AREVA’s
engineers review all aspects of the Independent Spent Fuel
Storage Installation (ISFSI) as it impacts the plant’s existing
processes and procedures.
AREVA’s experience and capabilities include the
radiological, civil, structural, construction, security (physical
and cyber), I&C, and electrical requirements of the ISFSI,
providing our clients with one solutions provider, thus
ensuring a comprehensive and properly integrated product.

License Renewal/Subsequent
License Renewal Services
Did you know … AREVA’s current LR/SLR team
performed regulatory-approved design basis & current
licensing basis validation and reconstitution projects
for over 1/3 of the U.S. nuclear power plants? This
solid foundation adds insight and expertise, which have
proven invaluable to LR/SLR clients.

License Renewal (LR) and
Subsequent LR (SLR)
Proven Experience with the Regulator: AREVA’s team
of dedicated LR experts represents the broadest and most
experienced collection of LR expertise in the industry today.
We have participated in more than 50 percent of the license
renewal applications approved by the NRC to date.
Industry Working Group Experts: Our LR/SLR key
players have been involved in LR activities since the early
1990s and helped formulate the industry’s approach and
methodology for license renewal. Supporting the key
players is a formidable team of seasoned license renewal
experts. The technical leads have each served in the lead
capacity for prior applications and each is intimately familiar
with the current LR requirements through their involvement
in industry working groups.
Industry Best Practices: The AREVA LR/SLR team is
a group of experienced professionals dedicated to plant
Long Term Operation (LTO) with a global presence and is
familiar with the current NRC expectations and industry
standards. The team has been involved since the initial
efforts of the industry to establish a working process for
LR, including development of the initial and revised Part 54
Rule, NEI 95-10, and the successful Industry Pilot Program
at two nuclear sites.
Flexible Operations
Did you know … Over the past three decades, AREVA
has become the world leader in flexible operations?
Having designed and implemented flexible operations
strategies in over 70 plants worldwide, AREVA is poised
with the foremost experts to make implementation of this
strategy a seamless process. From the switchyard to the
core, we are ready to help you meet the demands
of tomorrow.
As renewables continue to come on-line, the demands
on the rest of the grid will continue to grow, and flexibility
is a must. Grid operators are identifying flexibility for
conventional plants as an area where improvement is
necessary. AREVA realizes the demands of today are
greater than they have ever been; with low natural gas
prices and intermittent renewables, every second counts.
With our expertise, AREVA can help you create an
operations strategy that increases profit and efficiency.
AREVA’s approach considers the current and future
demands of the grid and the unit’s flexible operations
capabilities, aligning them for optimal operation. The result
is a cost-effective solution, which makes your plant a prime
asset to your utility.

Seismic Evaluations
Did you know … AREVA can perform seismic risk
evaluations in support of Near Term Task Force (NTTF)
Recommendation 2.1?
AREVA’s experience includes knowledge of the regulatory
framework and ASME/ANS Probabilistic Risk Assessment
(PRA) standard, development of seismic fragilities,
integration of the seismic PRA model into the existing
internal events PRA model, and active participation in
seismic risk evaluation industry meetings.
AREVA has developed a cost-effective, integrated and
iterative approach for seismic risk evaluations to identify
any additional analyses or modifications early and minimize
the duration of the analysis. The AREVA seismic evaluation
methodology meets the requirements of Regulatory
Guide 1.200, ASME/ANS PRA Standard, and the Seismic
Evaluation Guidance (SPID) provided by EPRI (EPRI
Report No. 1025287). AREVA’s U.S. Technical Center has
one of the largest and most capable multi-axial seismic
shake tables in North America. The generous 10x10 foot
table platform offers flexible mounting options for large
equipment, up to 20,000 lbs.
When it comes to natural hazard evaluations, look to
AREVA for the kind of expertise and service needed
to ensure continued safe and reliable operation of
your reactor.

Room R&D
AREVA’s Human Factors Engineering (HFE) team is a
global leader in designing human systems interface and
control room modifications. With AREVA, customers
receive the benefit of a diverse and global team with
experts in human factors, plant modification and required
interfaces, main control room design, licensing and
regulatory environment, task analysis, HFE verification and
validation, and systems functional analysis.
AREVA has also attained a complete safety evaluation
report from the NRC for its HFE program to ensure
safety while using a practical approach to maintaining
optimal human performance. It all adds up to a reduced
human error rate, while minimizing project cost and
maximizing resources.
In addition to reducing human error in the main control
room, applying human factors to existing plant processes
and tasks can help improve human performance and
reduce unnecessary costs due to rework. AREVA’s human
factors team specializes in analyzing tasks and processes
in the plant and utilizes advanced technology to provide
targeted and unique training to error-prone areas such as
maintenance, engineering, and craft. We are constantly
evaluating new technology to simplify work processes and
eliminate human error traps.
