COMMUNITY PRAYER BREAKFAST Speaker: Pastor Randy Weaver, Lone Star Cowboy Church For this year’s Community Prayer Breakfast the chamber was fortunate to have secured Pastor Randy Weaver of Lone Star Cowboy Church as our speaker. Pastor Randy Weaver is the Senior Pastor of Lone Star Cowboy Church. A former PRCA (Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association) Calf Roper and Steer Wrestler, Randy began his ministry in 1976 but has been an Assembly of God United States Missionary to the Rodeo Cowboys from 1988 to date. He felt the call to start a Cowboy Church in Montgomery in 2000. With the help of great people the Lone Star Cowboy Church has been the fulfillment of a lifelong dream. The arena is his "fishing pond"; the pulpit is his evangelistic field. Join the chamber and friends at the Jimmy Burke Activity Center on Wednesday, March 4th beginning at 7:00 p.m. to hear the inspirational preaching of Pastor Randy Weaver. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the chamber office located at 110 Center Street in Deer Park. The Chamber Annual Banquet was held on Friday, Jan. 16th at the Hobby Hilton. The Art Park Players were awesome as they performed numbers from their current show "Beehive". It appeared that everyone in attendance had a good time. The night was a great tribute to Jim Fox, Past Chair. Susan and the "Beehive" ladies took every opportunity to get him on stage and involved in the performance. Terry Sims, and the Banquet Committee, did a fantastic job in preparing for the event and invested long hours to insure it was successful. If you haven't been coming to the annual banquets, I encourage you to plan on attending next year. It is always a wonderful time! Congratulations to Melissa Harrison our Citizen of the Year. Thane used the night as an opportunity to surprise Melissa by secretly having her family appear for the celebration. She of course was in tears. Thank You Melissa for all that you do, not only in Deer Park but throughout the region. With the banquet, 2009 got off to a fast start. Close on its heels was the New Member Orientation Breakfast on Jan. 21 where about 20 new members were briefed on chamber activities. Welcome to all new members – we hope you choose to become an active member because you make a difference. On the near horizon is the State of the City luncheon on Feb. 26 at Jimmy Burke Activity Center. This is one of the more popular luncheons so make your table reservations early. The Community Prayer Breakfast is set for March 4 at the Jimmy Burke Activity Center. The Legislative Trip to Austin, March 9 and 10 is an especially enjoyable and informative activity. A chartered bus takes members to Austin to visit the Capitol, TAB and the Texas Chemical Council. In addition they have the opportunity to observe legislative sessions and visit with legislators at a private dinner. Contact the chamber office for details. In this tough economy we as a Chamber will continue to support initiatives and programs that will allow our members to compete in an increasingly global market. The small business assistance and development program is one example of our Chamber supporting and developing local businesses. I hope all of our members will continue to suggest ideas. Their feedback enables the Chamber to provide continued support for fellow members and the local business community. Hopefully this will provide economic vitality for our area into the future. Upward, Ambassador of the Year Harry Glaze C O R N E R Grady West Chairman of the Board IT’S ALL ABOUT YOU! Norma’s Country Dreams A New Dawn Pet Adoption Center This beautiful, elegant shop offers items that are wonderfully unique and appealing. They carry the finest and latest decor items such as furniture, table top decorations, frames, floral, home fragrances, and seasonal items. Personal items can also be found such as jewelry, foundation garments, trendy comfortable shoes, and purses. They offer super sweet baby items, too. Gourmet, fresh ground coffee is a favorite. For countless homeless dogs and cats in the Deer Park/Pasadena areas, the New Year has effectively begun at 202 San Augustine. Last year, Dawn Kubitz set a goal that has now been brought to fruition in time to ring in 2009. Kubitz is the founder of A New Dawn, a non-profit pet adoption agency originally based in Pasadena and has moved to Deer Park with the help of a team of volunteers. This is the perfect place to find that special gift for a girlfriend or mother with free gift wrap on non-sale purchases. You really must visit Norma's Country Dreams at 4705 Center St. in Deer Park to fully appreciate the atmosphere. The staff is interested and very helpful and Norma is a genius with first rate taste. Years of volunteer service at Pasadena’s Animal Control and Adoption prompted Kubitz to look for other options for the hundreds of animals picked up on the street and locked behind a city cage. To contribute to A New Dawn with donations such as money, cat litter or volunteers, call 281-9040280 or visit www.anewdawnpetadoption.org. Texas Lawn and Sprinkler Tankco Services of Texas Corp.
