YOUR
FUTURE
STARTS
HERE
HELLO AND WELCOME
I am so pleased that you can join us at this Open Day, where you can explore the many
exciting aspects of university life at Canterbury Christ Church University.
We know that choosing a university is one of
the most important decisions you are likely
to make, and one which will undoubtedly
change the course of your life. For that reason,
I would like to take the opportunity to tell you
a little more about our University as you look
around our Broadstairs Campus.
students achieve their academic and career
potential for over 50 years, and are proud
that 93% of our recent UK graduates are in
employment or further study six months after
completing their studies (based on Destination
of Leavers from Higher Education statistics for
2012-13 academic year).
Our Broadstairs students enjoy studying at a
modern, purpose-built campus, being part
of a thriving community of 20,000 students
across our well-established campus locations
in Kent and Medway. Inter-site links mean
that the campus is well-connected to all our
University services, and specialist facilities for
subjects based here provide a full range of
environments to support learning.
We are also one of the largest universities
in the region for courses which lead to
careers in the public services, such as teacher
training, policing, health and social care. This
reputation extends to our other areas of study,
including business and management, arts and
humanities and social and applied sciences.
Broadstairs itself is a perfect British seaside
town and, along with neighbouring Margate
and Ramsgate, supports a thriving artistic and
musical community. We are proud that our
students regularly contribute to the artistic
and musical scene here – from live music in
our recently refurbished Dwell café bar, to
exhibitions in the nearby Old Lookout Gallery
at the Broadstairs harbour and the campus’
own Burton Gallery.
Beyond the location, you’ll be considering
how university can bring life experience,
academic fulfilment and firm and exciting
career prospects. We’ve been helping

Most importantly, though, we are passionate
about education and our students. Today’s
and future students, like you, are at the centre
of everything we do – you inspire our teaching
and motivate our determination to ensure that
our physical facilities are outstanding.
We hope that you like what you see today
and, if you do, that you return to Christ
Church as one of our next generation of
successful students.

THANK YOU FOR BOOKING YOUR OPEN DAY VISIT
We look forward to welcoming you to Canterbury
Christ Church University at Broadstairs.
Before your visit
There’s a lot to see and do in one day. Use this guide to help you plan your
day around what you want to find out.
Any questions?
Write them down now on the day planner on page 9.
Make the most of your trip – see page 7 for essential travel information
and suggestions for visiting Broadstairs, helpful if you’re unfamiliar with the
surrounding areas.
On the day
When you arrive you’ll be met by staff and students who’ll be on hand
throughout the day. Remember to visit the registration desk to pick up the latest
information and collect your refreshment vouchers.
Take a break
Open days are fun and exciting. But they can also be long, and tiring. No-one
gets the best out of an experience if they’re hungry and thirsty. So make sure you
plan in time for a break and a bite to eat.
The Dwell Bar and Kitchen or Touchdown Express are both in the Allen
building (see map on page 11) and serve Fairtrade refreshments and
hot and cold food all day.
After your visit
Take some time to think about
the day and remember, if there’s
anything you forgot to ask us
you can always contact us for
more information via e-mail at
broadstairs@canterbury.ac.uk
or phone on 01843 609120.

EXPLORE THE ISLE OF THANET
People have been escaping to the Isle of Thanet for a
long time…for the laidback seaside vibe, lovely sandy
beaches and the closest surfing you’ll get this side of London
Right on the edge of the Garden of England, the three seaside towns of Broadstairs, Margate
and Ramsgate offer a retro seaside experience, combined with a cool and edgy arts and music
scene and some great places to shop, eat and drink.
Almost touching mainland Europe, and yet only 75 minutes from central London, this is a great
place to be!

Drop in at the Tourist Information Office stand in Carey
building foyer for more information or to ask questions
about the local area.

TO HELP YOU MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR DAY
There’s a lot to see and do in a day and finding the right course and university for you is important.
Here are some hints and tips to help!
Find out as much as you can about the course you’re interested in so that
you can be sure it’s the right course for you. Ask about the modules and find
out about how you will be taught and assessed. Think about your longer
term employment goals – will the course help you get there – but above all,
pick the course you love!
Speak to tutors at the Open Day. They can tell you about the course and help you
decide if it’s the right one for you. You can find out about the different lecturers
and their professional and research interests by taking a look at our website.
It’s important to think about the kind of environment you’ll be comfortable in. Do you want city life or will you be
more comfortable in a smaller place? Consider the costs of accommodation and transport and remember to talk to our
Accommodation Advisers at the Open Day. Broadstairs is a small campus and offers you a friendly and very supportive
environment in which to study. If you have the time, it’s worthwhile taking a look at Broadstairs and the neighbouring
towns of Margate and Ramsgate – three seaside resorts on your doorstep!
Throughout the year, we run taster days and workshops to help you get a flavour of what
it will be like to be a student at Broadstairs. Ask us for info on how to sign up.
Remember that choosing a course is not an exact science. Ask yourself what you liked about
the day and trust your instincts. If you liked the sound of the course and enjoyed the day, then
this could be the University for you!
Please check page 8 for a full list of times and
locations for your own itinerary.
