Fund a Need (2008) Gift to St. Philippine Home provides a
place of Refuge for Families
By Connie Neumann, Executive Director

Emerson/Bunzl Golf Tournament. The golf tournament has
grown in just 22 years to become one of the largest in the St. Louis area.
The updated kitchen has new cabinets and countertops, a new floor, a new stove and
new wall tile. Fresh paint, dining room floor and new pantry storage help to keep the
environment clean and organized. The Center’s maintenance husband and wife team,
“The Double D’s”, Deanna and Darryl, have been a remarkable influence in completing projects which otherwise would be cost prohibitive. They have made extraordinary accomplishments as team builders.
The golf tournament spearheaded this year by Co-Chairs LaVerne Lorenzini and Tim
Ferry, credit its success to the commitment of a hard working tournament committee.
The Center is most fortunate to have these resources available to us.
However, one thing noticed when Board members visited St. Philippine Home, was
they were in need of a place of refuge. For a Board committed to family, mom and
kids come first, and a warm, inviting kitchen and dining room for family to gather
seemed like a great idea.

A baby shower for QOPC Peace for Kids program was held
at LaVerne Lorenzini’s home on May 13, 2009. Guests
brought items for the babies at the Center and were entertained by Scott Hepper, Master Floral Designer of Straub’s
Webster Groves who showcased his talent. Some guests
were lucky enough to go home with one of Scott’s beautiful
creations. We are so appreciative of his time and generosity.

La Fete De La Mode Fashion Show
The children stole the show at the 9th Annual Queen of Peace Center Fashion show
on November 11, 2008. Grandmas and grandpas, moms and dads, aunts and uncles
beamed with joy as the children paraded down the runway in outfits from The
Children’s Place, West County. Adult models were pampered by TA-DA Hair Salon
and Studio Branca and wore fashions from Little Black Dress, Coldwater Creek,
Woody’s Mens Shop, The Fur and Leather Centre and Vineyard Vines Ties.
A special moment at the show was when Bob McCulloch, Board Member, presented
Connie Neumann with a commemorative plaque and gift recognizing her 20 year
anniversary at Queen of Peace Center.
Net proceeds benefit the women in treatment for co-occurring and addictive disorders
and their children who attend the Peace for Kids Child Development Center.
A special thanks to the volunteers, staff and generous donors who contributed time, talent and treasure to make this
year’s show special for everyone.

supporting local causes. Whole Foods Market
has made a commitment to help fight poverty
globally and locally through in-kind donations, micro-loans and community development. Each month,
Whole Foods Market stores have a monthly budget designated

donation for the month of November. Through their local efforts,
Whole Foods market has donated hundreds of dollars worth
of food to support the operations of Queen of Peace Center’s
newly formed Procovery Circle, a mutual aid support group for
women in recovery from substance abuse. QOPC is grateful for
Jill Duncan, the Marketing Specialist at Whole Foods Market
Brentwood for her dedication to serving the women of Queen of
