MARCH 2012
Kappa Theta
Saint Louis
University
Sigmatines
On February 11th,
Kappa Theta held their
second annual
‘Sigmatines’ sisterhood
event. We kicked the event
off with a conversation
about why this sisterhood
is important to us and how
we can share it with others
by recruiting great new
women. Members then
made and exchanged
valentines while chatting,
enjoying snacks, and
dancing to our new
favorite song "Come on
Eileen".
We also got to meet
Jessica (Blankenship)
Rider from Delta Upsilon,
the awesome new advisor
for the Vice President of
Finance.
We were also very
excited to bring back the
tradition of a cookie pass.
A giant heart shaped
cookie was passed around
the circle, stopping at each
woman so she could take a
chunk of cookie and say
something positive. This
feel- good exercise was
fulfilling and delicious!
The Dove Love was
flowing freely and
everybody had a great
time! We hope all of our
alumnae had a fantastic
Valentine's Day!
Live Sigma
Kappa!
livesigmakappa.com is
a new online community space for Sigma Kappa
alumnae! It is currently in phase one, which
consists of an alumnae blog. Soon, phase two will
be implemented and the site will include
discussion forums, an interactive calendar, and
other ways to connect to each other and Sigma
Kappa.
Alumnae Spotlight:
Ashley Fisher
SLU School of Law on the Move!
SLU’s law school is set to be
relocated to downtown Saint Louis by
August of 2012. The 11 floor, 26,000
square foot building that will host
SLU law students was donated by Joe
and Loretta Scott. The school’s hope is that this
relocation will bring students into closer proximity
with the courts and many of the region’s top law
firms.
Ashley (Pickett) Fisher graduated from SLU in
2005 and has now returned to Kappa Theta as our
Advisory Board Chairman. She is also active with the
Spirit of Saint Louis Alumnae Chapter. She says that
she loves being involved with the collegiate women
because we keep her young. Her favorite part of
advising is “observing the personal growth of the
officers and members”. It amazes her to see what this
organization does for its members.
Since graduating from college, Ashley has
earned her law degree from the University of Alabama
Cupcakes for a Cause
On February 1, a group of Kappa Theta
women visited Mercy Skilled Nursing Center to
deliver cupcakes to the residents living there. We
had decorated the cupcakes the night before
during a recruitment event. We all
enjoyed getting to know the patients
and practicing our gerontologyfocused philanthropic efforts.
and is licensed in Missouri. She married her college
sweetheart, John, this past September and has recently
opened her own company. Ashley Fisher Designs and
Events specializes in weddings (event planning,
photography, graphic design, and custom jewelry). We
are very lucky to have Ashley around and are so
grateful for all she does for Sigma Kappa and
Kappa Theta, in particular.
