A second wave of City-initiated construction projects are beginning in the months of August and September
On Valley Blvd. between Curry and Mulberry, the City is completing
the extension of the Class I bike path running along the south side
of the road. This will allow bicyclists and others to travel safely along
this path nearly the entire length of Valley Blvd. This path also links
to the Antelope Run Path that extends north and south from Valley
Blvd. Due to the proposed bike path location, the City will be making
significant street improvements to the south side of Valley between
Mill and Mulberry Streets where the existing roadway is deteriorated
and experiences regular drainage problems. An extensive network of
storm drain piping will be installed to combat this particular problem.
The City also expects to begin the bid and advertisement
stage for a sidewalk enhancement project that extends along
Curry St. from C Street to Valley Blvd. and along Valley Blvd.
from Curry St. to Dennison Rd. The project will also continue
down Dennison Rd, and onto Anita Dr. to access the junior
high school. This project will construct extensive sidewalk
and pedestrian facilities and will complete adjacent sections of
roadway along the proposed alignment. This project should
be a dramatic improvement for students attending Jacobsen
Middle School or the Tehachapi High School.
On Mill Street near Highway 58 the City has
begun the bid and advertisement phase for
a roadway rehabilitation project extending
from the Home Depot north into Capital Hills
to Challenger Drive. The existing pavement
in this area is severely deteriorated and the
City expects to employ several rehabilitation
techniques to restore the roadway in this area.
On Tucker Road north of Valley Boulevard, the
City has also begun the bid and advertisement
phase for a roadway overlay project extending
from Valley Boulevard north to the intersection
of Cherry Lane. The pavement in this area is
failed and requires extensive re-work. The City
hopes to utilize a paving grid (fiberglass mesh)
to help reduce cost and extend the life of the
replacement road.
