N ew Signings NORTH AMERICA DAVE GROHL Modern Drummer WITH HIS FOOT FIRMLY planted on the amp of rock history and an uncanny knack for spawning hit singles, Dave Grohl is a unique songwriter, singer, drummer, guitarist, and video director who has set the pace of a modern day music icon. From Nirvana drummer, to Queens of the Stone Age touring drummer, to Foo Fighters frontman, to Probot ringleader, Grohl morphs bands and instruments with humor, hospitality, and a high degree of success. His fans, like Grohl himself, approach each of his projects with an eager passion for the music and a loyalty like none other. Grohl consistently delivers with everything from hard-edged punk to metal to melodic mid-tempo pop. On the mind-blowing debut album from metal project Probot, Grohl plays “As a kid, my fantasy was that I would go to a concert and something would happen to the drummer. The lead singer would look out into the audience and say, ‘Is there anyone out there who knows how to play our songs?’ And, of course, they’d have to pick me.” virtually all the instruments, with a few friends joining in the bash along the way such as Matt Sweeney (Zwan/Chavez), Kim Thayil (Soundgarden), Bubba Dupree (Voived), Lemmy (Motorhead), and more. Grohl also continues to delight Foo fans, and tour extensively, in addition to finding time to record with the likes of David Bowie, Killing Joke, Mike Watt, P. Diddy, Scream, The Bangles, Tony Iommi, and the unstoppable Tenacious D, to name a few. Universal Music Publishing Group is honored to welcome the iconic Dave Grohl to the publishing family and pleased to work with Manager John Silva at Silva Artist Management to spread the Grohl gospel. -Dave Grohl Universal Music Publishing Group Signs Superstar Mariah Carey To An Exclusive, Worldwide Publishing Deal UNIVERSAL MUSIC PUBLISHING GROUP has signed superstar artist and songwriter Mariah Carey to an exclusive, worldwide publishing deal. The deal will bring her extensive catalog of hits into UMPG, including such great songs as “Whenever You Call,” “Honey,” “Dream Lover,” “Always Be My Baby,” and “Heartbreaker.” Since she began her career, Mariah has become the best-selling female performer of all time, with an incredible 15 #1 singles and two Grammy Awards. Along the way she became the only artist to top the charts in each year of the 1990s, and, with “Heartbreaker,” she pushed ahead of the Beatles as the artist with the most cumulative weeks spent atop Billboard’s Hot 100 Singles chart. Possessing a spectacular five-octave range, Mariah has proven that she is equally at home with sweeping ballads and pop, often incorporating elements of dance and hip-hop into the mix. Perhaps even more impressive, she composes all of her own material. Mariah has garnered many accolades throughout her career, including 2 Grammy Awards, 8 American Music Awards, Billboard’s “Artist of the Decade” Award and the World Music Award for “World’s Best Selling Female Artist of the Millennium.” Mariah has commenced work on her next studio LP for Island/Def Jam under the auspices of L.A Reid and the management of Benny Medina at Handprint Entertainment.
