A perennial favourite of stylish men and women for its exceptional durability, comfort and unique colours, the Jotter has been brightening up the everyday since 1954. This stunning 2014 revival is a Special Edition one-year release which celebrates PARKER’s 125th anniversary of pen making excellence. A retro-chic rainbow of colours W ith these latest special editions, PARKER reimagines four of the Jotter’s most iconic colours. The Coral and Grey Green, inspired by the original 1954 editions, are standout saturated shades of a retro-fashion colour palette, seen revived on the catwalk today. The two other editions reference the first feminine Jotter editions from 1958, the Jotter Debutante range, and are also currently enjoying a second life in on-trend coats, bags, shoes and even nails for Spring/Summer 2014. BALL PEN PAR K E R The Jotter Coral is perfect for those looking to accent their Spring/ Summer 2014 brights with a bold and eye-catchy accessory. It is a cooling shade for a touch of Monroe-inspired magic. The Jotter Pink comes in an effervescent candy shade to accent an eclectic outfit. Calling to mind the flirty full skirts of the 1950s, it’s a touch of pure pink power. The pearly off-white sheen of the Jotter Whiteness reflects the enamel finishes of retro-chic designer jewellery and accessories today. It is ideal for complimenting an ‘all white’ outfit and being subtly stylish. The PARKER Jotter Coral, Grey Green, Pink and Whiteness ◆◆ ◆◆ ◆◆ ◆◆ Durable light-weight plastic barrel. This ethos began with the dream of a 25-year old entrepreneur, the brand’s founder George Safford Parker, who stated, ’it will always be possible to make a better pen‘. This philosophy is well embodied with Jotter: although it was not the first ballpoint pen to come to market, it was certainly one of the best. After nine years spent perfecting the research and technology, the iconic Jotter was launched in January 1954, claiming at that time 600% more writing from a single refill and a rotating ball-seat providing two to four times more wear than its predecessors. For PARKER, launching a new pen was about introducing a model of best-in-class quality, design and performance. A FIRST LOOK AT THE JOTTER ON WEDNESDAY 23 DECEMBER 1953 A revolution in design and style I ts precise technology and timeless aesthetic mean that the Jotter continues to be an international reference today and a symbol of pioneering design. Creative product stylist Nolan Rhoades, who had studied the principles of the Bauhaus design movement, masterminded the original design with an aesthetic of ‘form following function’ resulting in the Jotter’s clean lines and light-weight materials. Then chairman Kenneth Parker’s artistic influences also inspired the launch of over 100 dynamic colour editions to come out over the following years. A favourite throughout history Along the years, the Jotter has gained high profile recognition. In 1958 the Jotter attracted the attention of NASA engineers, who had difficulty making ball bearings for gyros to the exacting tolerances that PARKER claimed were possible. PARKER’s expertise contributed to the finalization of NASA’s satellite. 1954, launch of Jotter 1995 was the year James Bond used a Jotter in GoldenEye. The pen makes a scene-stealing cameo as the vehicle for the famous Class 4 grenade supplied by Q-Branch, making the Jotter a hero of both desk and screen. On 1 October 1968, to celebrate the tenth anniversary of NASA, PARKER created a special edition of 250 Sterling Silver Cisele Classic ballpoint pens using a piece of metal from John Glenn’s Atlas booster rocket recovered in Africa. Engraved on the cap band of each pen is ‘U.S.A. INTO SPACE’ above ‘20 II 1962’, celebrating John Glenn’s historic flight. 1961 saw the Jotter selected as the ‘Presidential Pen’ of John F. Kennedy: a practical, well-designed pen for a pragmatic man of spirit and style. The Jotter pens were used for ceremonial occasions such as bill signings and were also given away as gifts.
