Strong Mansion on Sugarloaf Mountain • 7901 Comus Road Dickerson, MD 20842
Celebrate the achievements of this year’s recipients in the historic and scenic Strong Mansion on
Sugar Loaf Mountain. The property played a vital role in several military campaigns during the Civil
War. It served as an outpost on the top of the mountain and housed a Signal Corps station, where
flags were used to send messages to Washington DC. Roam the historic mansion and see the Civil
War artifacts that were found on this remarkable site. The evening begins with a full bar reception
featuring the NMCWM/Flying Dog beer SawBones. Dinner will be provided by Canapes Catering
on the Mansion patio. Presentation of the awards will follow.
Keynote Speaker – Cate Lineberry
Author of ‘The Secret Rescue’
Cate Lineberry’s book The Secret Rescue: An Untold Story of American Nurses and Medics Behind Nazi
Lines is a mesmerizing tale of the courage and heroism of ordinary people. It tells not only a new story of
struggle and endurance, but also one of the daring rescue attempts by clandestine American and British
organizations amid the tumultuous landscape of the war.

The Letterman Award for Medical Excellence
The Letterman Award is a natural outcome of the mission and current programming of the National
Museum of Civil War Medicine. Since 2004, we have developed an ever-expanding series of training
programs and research projects designed to aid medical and emergency management professionals in
their daily tasks. By learning from the innovations of the past and understanding their relevance and
application to current and future medicine, we can eliminate the repetition of mistakes and help to
accelerate new processes and techniques.
National Museum of Civil War Medicine
Proceeds from the Letterman Award Dinner support the educational outreach programs of the
