The Savage Storm scored quickly and jumped to a 14-0 lead before Northwestern scored on a 79-yard pass to end the first quarter. Southeastern went on to score 30 unanswered points and finished the game with 546 yards, 305 from behind the arm of quarterback Justin Pitrucha, as he was 19-of-28. Bryan Henry hit Zach Edwards for both Ranger touchdowns. Edwards caught three passes for 97 yards and scored both of Northwestern’s touchdowns. Northwestern was held to 270 yards of offense, including 160 yards passing. Scouting the Cowboys The Cowboys are coming off a 26-13 win over Bacone College. NMHU will be behind the direction of junior quarterback Ronnie Simpson, who threw for 2,156 yards and 22 touchdowns last season. The Cowboys averaged 342.9 yards per game in offense, but gave up 436.8 yards to opponents. After a 1-10 season in 2005 and the only win coming from the Rangers, NMHU tied for seventh out of nine teams in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference preseason poll. Last Meeting Despite being down to the Rangers, 9-18, N.M. Highlands scored seventeen unanswered points. The Ranger defense held the Cowboys scoreless in the second half, but the offense could only come up with one score. NMHU out-performed NWOSU on offense, 337 to 267 yards, while the Rangers were plagued with 120 yards in penalties and five fumbles. Series Record Northwestern owns the advantage of the 5-3-1 series record. The Rangers are 2-1-1 at home and are 3-2 on the road. The Cowboys are favored by Football Gazette, 21-14, while Victory Sports.net has Northwestern over N.M. Highlands. Coaches Fred Slaughter (Northwestern Oklahoma State, ‘96) is in his second season as the head coach of the Rangers and holds a 5-6 overall record and 4-2 CSFL conference mark. Carl Ferrill is in his second stint as head coach of the Cowboys. He currently is 25-9 overall and was 24-9 from 1996-98.
