Jotron Coastal Radios
to cover Oslo Fjord
During 2011 Jotron has delivered a
new coastal VHF communication
system to the Horten Traffic Control Centre, operated by Kystverket (the Norwegian government
agency responsible for coastal
water transport). The radio system
covers the Oslofjord area, with the
main operator station in Horten
and additional radio stations are
installed on four different radio
sites. To supplement the system
there are also operators in Brevik
and Oslo.
The chosen solution is a result of
Jotron’s considerable focus on the
development of IP based radios
and control systems throughout
the past few years.
Jotron is determined to be one
of the lead drivers to establish a
platform to use this standard (ED
137) of VoIP within ground to air
communication. Learning from
experience in the ground to air
sector, Jotron has now a unique
product for coastal radio systems
as well. The time Jotron has spent
to implement VoIP directly into
the radios has resulted in making
the systems more cost-effective,
flexible and robust. In the long
run, this effort reduces the risk of
committing errors and this is especially important where accessible sites are difficult to reach.

CONTRACT
Turkish Civil Aviation contract
We’re delighted to announce another
very substantial order for the
Turkish Civil Aviation Authority,
the General Directorate of State
Airports Authority - Devlet Hava
Meydanlari Işletmesi (DHMI). This
latest Turkish order is for 362 radio
units and has come through Yazici
Co. Ltd, our exclusive representative in Turkey since 1985.
Mr. Selçuk Yazici, founder
of YAZICI Co. Ltd
Since we began trading with our agents
Yazici, we have produced over 3,000
radios for DHMI Turkey. In addition, we
have also supplied some 460 radios
to other countries surrounding Turkey
where Yazici operates, all of which have
resulted from the very close levels of
cooperation we enjoy with our Turkish
agents.
Delivery of our own radios and some
additional products will begin next year
in 2012 and we all look forward to being of further assistance to the aviation
authorities and other customers in this
region.

PRODUCT
Survival of the fittest
A recent delivery from the Joint Rescue Coordination
Center, Northern Norway (JRCC) of one of Jotrons Tron
40S EPIRB’s is testament to the high quality design and
manufacturing standards of this rugged and ever popular product. This particular EPIRB had been released
and sent a distress signal from the Murmansk trawler,
Topaz A, which got into difficulties and sank off Bear
Island (Bjornoya) to the west of the Barents Sea between Spitsbergen and the North Cape in 2009. In the
intervening two years, the EPIRB had drifted through
the Barents Sea and North Sea until being picked up by
another vessel and taken to JRCC.
The Murmansk trawler ”Topaz-A”
After two years in the water, the buoy has certainly seen
better days externally, with the harsh marine environment stripping off all external labels and markings but,
internally, still perfectly functional. Never let it be said
that Jotron products aren’t built to lastt!
UAB JOTRON
Further investment for UAB Jotron
UAB Jotron in Kaunas, Lithuania, has
recently taken delivery of the latest investment in manufacturing technology. The Assembleon MG-1R High Speed
Multifunction Production Machine, is
at the very cutting edge of Surface
Mounted Device (SMD) production
technology. The investment will enable them to increase not only the production levels and quality of assembly
components, but also the efficiency at
which we operate.
Of course, the investment in plant means nothing if it’s not matched by investment in people and the skilled staff
at UAB have received additional training to operate this very sophisticated
machine. Initial feedback from them
has been very positive with the new
technology now becoming an integral
part of our manufacturing system.

TRAVELLING
UAB Jotron celebrated 10 years
UAB Jotron celebrated their 10th anniversary in style in September with a
superb event which saw many of our
worldwide staff visiting the country for
the very first time. Established in 2001
in Kaunas, Lithuania, the company is
now an integral part of the production
facilities within the Jotron Group, utilising advanced equipment for surface
mounting of electrical components
onto PCBs.
Back in the 14th century, Lithuania was
actually the largest country in Europe,
whilst the present day states of Belarus,
Ukraine and parts of Poland and Russia
were actually territories of the ”Grand
Duchy of Lithuania”. The Lithuanian
language (lietuvių kalba) is the official
state language and is recognised as
one of the official languages of the European Union. Their native language is
one of only two surviving members of
the Baltic language family.
City of Kaunas
Trakai Castle
Vilnius at night
One of the many
pleasures of the visit was the introduction to traditional
Lithuanian cuisine, in
particular the Lithuanian Šakotis cake. The
name means ”branched tree” or ”tree
with many branches”
due to its distinctive
shape. Guests also
enjoyed the display
of traditional Lithuanian dancing and
visited a children’s home outside of
Kaunas which the Jotron Group support
financially.
The staff from Norway and UK were
very impressed with what UAB Jotron
have accomplished and welcomed the
opportunity to meet their colleagues in
person. Congratulations to all of the
UAB team on your 10th anniversary
and we hope to come back very soon
to enjoy more of Lithuania as a country
and your culture.

BROCHURE
New Russian and Chinese Brochures
The Jotron Group has commissioned
new brochures and leaflets to update
our marketing material for agents, distributors and end users.
Whilst in previous years, Jotron has
produced this material only in standard
English language, the new brochures
are also available in both Russian and
Chinese language versions. This is to
reflect not only the vast number of the
global population who communicate in
these languages, but also the importance of this market to Jotron.
The international language of both
the maritime and aviation sectors may
well still be English, but Jotron wants
to make it as easy as possible for all
customers to understand the products
and to keep updated on product news.

the first time, since Jotron SatCom became a member of the Jotron family,
Jotron could finally put the antenna on

directed to the SatCom antenna, which
had been anticipated before the start.

Crazy Things We All Do

•
Why does the glue in a tube not stick to the tube itself?
Why do we press down hard on the remote control even though we know that the batteries are weak?
Why can’t we ever manage to open a plastic bag on the first attempt?
Why don’t we ever hear jokes about father-in-laws?
How many times will we keep coming back and opening the door to the fridge when we are hungry? Do we really think that
food will appear there miraculously?
• If you are sitting by a table and something is accidentally falling off, don’t try and prevent its fall. Why? Every time you try,
you will accidentally hit and break something else.
• When statistics claim that the sum of all the stars in the sky is about four billion, people believe it. But, when someone sees
a sign on a park bench or board stating ”wet paint”, they must verify this?
• Why do people move a vacuum cleaner over a small piece of thread again and again? Why do we pick it up, examine it and
then place it back down and move the vacuum cleaner over it to give it a second chance?
