Wireless technology implemented in sensor-application domains enables significant benefits for business beyond traditional wiring “mind-set” constraints: elimination of wiring costs, improved predictive maintenance, condition monitoring and stronger asset management. PE.WSNi Wireless technology now allows unlimited levels of measurement hence the possibility to increase monitoring points at a fraction of the cost of wired sensors. PE.WSNi is an open standard based complete and modular system providing on the shelf all the hardware and software for rapid and cost-effective design and deployment of a reliable and cost effective IPv6 wireless-mesh network for industrial data acquisition from any kind of new or existing sensor. It includes advanced software tools and network management systems on sub-GHz ISM band for higher penetration and noise immunity. Featuring ultra low power technology for long life operations (> 8 years) and predictable power management, PE.WSNi is a self organizing, self healing and adaptive solution, ensuring data reliability >99%. It stands the harshest conditions (IP67 and ATEX certified). Security • Provide authorization, authentication and strong encryption with computation in hardware and at node level. • Intrinsically safe in explosive atmospheres and holding a high degree of protection for indoor/outdoor harsh environments. Electrical activities on PE.WSNi can be physically turned off by a simple command broadcast to the wireless network. Fitness for use • Easily on-field replaceable modules. Units are selfrecognized and can be replaced with no specific skills. No specialized workforce to deploy a PE.WSNi wireless sensor network thanks to easy site surveying for node installation and link quality assessment. • Data reliability >99%, flexibility and fine tuned data sampling time allow a wide range of applications. • Standard physical interface (Ethernet and serial port) for easy integration with host applications. Best wireless and network performance • Improved noise immunity and higher penetration factors thanks to sub-GHz frequency compared to 2.4 GHz solutions. • High immunity to common multi-path phenomena in industrial environments. • Self-organizing, self-healing, adaptive mesh routing devices ensures the use of the best communication paths. • Fault Tolerant Network: multiple alternative routes between nodes imply no single point of failure exists. Best energy management strategies • Supporting 10-30V AC/DC external input, lithium thionyl chloride power pack, or optional energy harvester module (vibration or photovoltaic). • Ultra Low Power design for long life operation and predictable power management. • Integrated Multi-dimensional cost metrics routing protocol. Management and interfacing Benefits • Eliminates the complexity and constraints (costs) of wired infrastructures. • Enables monitoring capabilities even in areas previously considered unreachable and impossible to monitor. • Ensures intrinsic network security: deployment of operations are independent from existing networks. • Enables seamless integration and unlimited extension of any existing monitoring solutions. • Ensures easy and rapid deployment, application flexibility. • Enables temporary and/or incremental data collection campaigns. Features Modularity • PE.WSNi nodes host up to four I/O modules in any combination and can be configured as single wireless repeaters to extend the reach of the wireless sensor network. Scalability • Multi-function I/O modules support multiple sensors each, in a wide range of analog and digital ones. • Radio module with external antenna connector allows to easily expand the ranges through a wide range of directional antennas. • Configurable on event sampling sensors. • A comprehensive web based suite of software applications allows to manage all different aspects of a WSN: network configuration, provisioning, monitoring, data collection and real time monitoring, events, alarms, maps. All functionalities are operated from web browsers with no need for intrusive software or middleware installations. There are two available software versions: An embedded version in PE.WSNi Gateway allows full control of single nodes up to the whole WSN. All relevant aspects of a wireless sensor network are automatically managed: distributed clocks synchronization, module trees generation and re-provisioning, connected nodes configuration self-recognizing. Data presentation methods – eg. ODBC, TCP/IP sockets, Modbus/TCP, OPC, SNMP - ensure integration with upstream systems such as PLC, DCS, databases, etc. An enterprise version, the PE.WSNi NMS - Network Management System, with extended functionalities: management of larger number of hierarchically structured remote WSNs ensuring data integrity and coherence also in restricted or limited connectivity conditions. Communication between remote PE.WSNi Gateway(s) and the NMS is ensured by an effective and reliable network protocol supporting communications in extremely narrow bandwidth conditions. Just some clicks on the web interface provide: • Two-level synoptic: global (all remote sites) and partitioned (single or aggregated remote sites). • Synoptic view of PE.WSNi Nodes belonging to different PE.WSNi Gateways and enhanced schematic and reports (eg. interpolation between data coming from different PE.WSNi, even if belonging to a remote site). • Drill down functionality over each element of the PE.WSNi wireless sensor network. • Data export at each level of PE.WSNi wireless sensor network hierarchical element. • Enhanced Alarm Console to monitor any remote site network unreachability, fault on transmission/reception of configuration states, etc. • Data management and storage (extended). •Remote site configuration centralized repository. PE.WSN: NMS is available as a web-based service, through an Internet secure access to Paradox Engineering data center, and as a HW/SW Appliance, from the shelf, ready for installation at customer office or data center.
