Abel, Chief of Police 730 Public Safety Way Corona, CA 92880 City Hall Online All The Time – www.DiscoverCorona.com April 22, 2016 EVERY 15 MINUTES-‐ CORONA HIGH SCHOOL CORONA, CA– Every 15 minutes is a two-‐day program that involves a simulated D.U.I. fatal traffic collision, an educational retreat, and a mock funeral. The purpose of the program is to raise the awareness of teens and the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or other controlled substances, and provide an accurate depiction of an alcohol-‐related fatal traffic collision. On Monday, April 25, 2016, at approximately 10 a.m., a simulated D.U.I. fatal collision investigation will take place on Tenth Street, between Lincoln Avenue and Border Avenue, directly in front of Corona High School. Tenth Street will be closed to all traffic between 7:55 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. The simulation will include on scene trauma triage, a D.U.I. investigation, and transportation and treatment of the fatal/injured victims. At the conclusion of the collision scene, the student participants will attend an overnight retreat (students will have no contact with family, friends, etc, that are not on the retreat), while their parents receive death notifications, just as if their child died that day from a D.U.I. related traffic collision. These activities are designed to illustrate the far reaching effects of driving under the influence. On Tuesday, April 26, 2016, a mock funeral (assembly) will be held at Corona High School where the previously dead students will be reunited with their parents, family, and friends. The junior and senior class will attend the assembly where a video of the previous day’s activities will be shown, and presentations will be made by several guest speakers. Members of the media are invited to attend this program. Funding for this program is provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the California Highway Patrol.
