war fuer mich ein
Vorteil, dass ich die
Zeit
von
euch
bekommen
habe
um
mich
als
Praesident einzuarbeiten, da Ich ja
wenige Personen
kannte.
Ich hoffe, dass ich als Klubpraesident und
auch fuer die Mitglieder, meine Faehigkeit
beweisen konnte.

Janice und ich haben die letzten zwei Jahre,
die Zeit mit euch, geniesen koennen! Wenn
ich wieder die Gelegenheit bekomme euer
Klubpraesident zu sein, so verspreche ich,
mein Bestes fuer die Mitglieder und den
Klub zu geben.
Ich werde die deutsche Sprache, Kultur und
ihre Traditionen weiter unterstuetzen. In
den letzten zwei Jahren haben viele
Mitglieder unsere Klubveranstaltungen
unterstützt und ich hoffe, dass dies auch in
den naechsten Jahren beibehalten wird.
Bringt eure Familie und Freunde in den
Concordia Klub oder auch zur Farm. Wir
wollen allen zeigen, dass unser Klub stolz
auf die “deutsche Gemeinschaft” ist und
schon fuer viele Jahre einer der groessten
deutschen Klubs in unserer Umgebung ist.
President’s Report
I would like to thank you, the membership
for supporting me in my past 2 years as your
president. You were a brave bunch for taking a chance on a person that many of you
did not know well and I hope I have served
you well and lived up to your expectations.
As stated in past newsletters, Janice and I
have had an enjoyable 2 years representing
and getting to know our Concordia family as
individuals as well as groups. If I am so honoured to be elected as your president again I
promise to keep increasing the exposure of
our club in this community and abroad as
well as to push forward to keep the Concordia club a sustainable place for people to
come and maintain and enjoy their German
language, culture and traditions
In the past 2 years I have noticed that there
has been a decline in the amount of people
attending events at the club. We have had
great support over the past 142 years and
need to have this continued support if we
wish to celebrate another 142 years as the
largest German club in the area. I would ask
all of you, the membership, to try and support as many groups and events as you can
throughout the year. I would also like to
challenge you to try and expose your friends
and others in the community to come to the
Concordia club and experience a dinner,
event or visit to the farm.
You the membership must remember that
this is the organization that you and all of
those before you have built and in order for
us to remain sustainable we must support
each other. We must show our patrons and
the general public how proud we are of our
German heritage and why we have been an
integral part of this community for so many
years.
A special thank you to Rita Allmendinger
and Sarah Fretz for their continued support
in broadening my comprehension of the
German language. These 2 ladies are responsible for the translation of my monthly
reports as well as coaching me so that I may
speak to you in your chosen language, a language that I find very hard to try and learn.
I hope to see you at some of the upcoming
events at the club and hope that this winter
will continue to be as gentle on us as it has
been.

The highlight of the club
calendar year is President’s Ball! A wonderful
evening of fellowship. It
will be held on Saturday,
March 19th starting at
6:00 p.m. Your ticket includes a champagne cocktail hour, hors d’oeuvres, a four course dinner, wine with dinner and live entertainment. All for $48.00 per person!
Easter Sunday Buffet
Easter Sunday comes early this year! A sign
that Spring is just around the corner. We are
already taking reservations for Easter so
don’t wait to call the office and make yours.
We will again be having two seatings: 12:00
noon to 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
The price for the buffet is $22.50 for adults,
children between the ages of 4 and 12 are
1/2 price and children under the age of 4 are
free.
Bockbierbest and Miss Concordia 2016
Another sure sign that Spring is almost
here! Our Ladies Group host Bockbierfest
every year and this year is no different. It
will be held on Saturday, April 9th with the
doors opening at 6:30p.m.
We will also be crowning our new Miss
Concordia 2016 on this evening! We look
forward to seeing you all there!

1. KG Narrenzunft Concordia
Happy Easter to All! Spring is in the air and
we look forward to the signs of it!!!
We sadly announce the passing of one of
our members Ursula Possehl. She always
had a smile with kind words to say. Her
memory will live on in all of us….Uschi you
are dearly missed!
We traveled to Covington, Kentucky for
Cincinnati’s Germania Society Maskenball
on January 22-24. We had the privilege to be
accompanied by our President Rob Kerr and
his wife Janice who experienced Karneval
for the first time outside of Concordia Club.
Our Prinzen Paar Seppi and Monika Hoedl
were joined by Wolfgang and Karin Kanhke
standing in as Hofstaat in the absence of
Manfred and Karin Kruse. Cincinnati’s Germania Society, who has been friends of Narrenzunft for many years, once again showed
our group and friends the utmost hospitality. Our Junior and Senior Garde shone during their performances making Concordia
proud! Some of the group were able to take
a short but wonderful day trip to Cincinnati’s Aquarium. We look forward to the
next time we see our American friends.
On February 6th the Karneval group celebrated the Maskenball/Closing Event with a
Roaring Twenties theme. Kitchener City
Councillor Zyg Janecki and his wife Augy
enjoyed Karneval for the first time sharing
their experience with CKWR’s radio announcer Henning Grumme, Shirley Grumme, Concordia Club President Rob Kerr and
Janice Kerr. Many that attended donned costumes to fit the theme making this evening
memorable. We thank all those participants
from the Concordia Club, friends and those
from out of town, especially Brantford’s
Narragonia K.G. who won the group costume prize. The evening was packed full of
entertainment from Narrenzunft’s Kinder,
Junior and Senior Garde Dancers. The
Variations Band with Heinz Lindlau kept
the crowd dancing throughout the night.
Thank you to all of the members of the
Narrenzunft and friends who made this
whole event happen.
We appreciated everyone’s enthusiasm and
support throughout this past Karneval
Season.

Auch wenn wir in diesem Jahr kein Tournament spielen werden, so sind doch alle
Gruppenmitglieder aufgerufen, fleissig zum
Training zu kommen.
Despite of not having a tournament this year
every group member is welcome to come
out for practice on our weekly training sessions.

from 7:30 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. Please note
that the hall is not available for table-tennis

Auch in diesem Jahr sind wichtige Entscheidungen durch unseren Gesamtvorstand zu
treffen. Hoffen wir, dass unserem Praesidenten eine gute „Mannschaft“ an die Seite gestellt wird.

What are the Ides of March??
You may remember the soothsayers warning to
Julius Caesar “Beware the Ides of March” but the
term did not originate with William Shakespeare. The Ides of March, March 15th initially
marked the first full moon of the New Year. It
was a time when people would gather to celebrate with food, wine and music. Like the
Presidents Ball to be held on March 19th, the
mixed choir will entertain you and there will
also be wine and food. Hope to see you there.
Plans for our trip to Germany are in the final
stages. We have had six cancellations, so we are
opening up applications to club members,
friends and family who may still be interested in
joining us. It will be a fantastic trip. We leave
Concordia on May 27th 2016, flying to Amsterdam and beginning our trip there. We will visit
Hamburg, Berlin, Dresden, Leipzig and returning
home on June 11th. This is a wonderful opportunity to visit this part of Germany. The cost of the
trip, which includes flight, most meals, hotel and
bus transportation is approximately $4000

This year the Concordia Choir selected two honorary members. Nick Osbelt, and Joerg Schikora.
These two men have dedicated thousands of
hours to our choir, and performed almost every
volunteer job imaginable.
Lets start with Joerg, we sat down recently and
had a lovely chat. He told me, he joined the
Concordia Club as a young married man in l968.
The Concordia was a place to meet with people
who spoke German, shared the love of German
culture and music. He and his lovely wife Else
joined the choir at the same time. Joerg is a man
who enjoys getting the job done. When asked
whether it was putting up a tent, driving or just
helping, he was always available. In 1971 when
the club burned down he volunteered to help rebuild. Joerg served on the Choir Board from 1972
until 1977. He also served on the 100th
Anniversary of Concordia Committee.
In 1981 Joerg was honoured as “Sänger des
Jahres”. 1984 was the year our famous chicken
barbeque got started at the farm of Cecilia Piller.
We have seen Joerg help at each barbeque held
since that time.
Thank you Joerg for all your years of dedication
to both the Mixed Choir and Male Choir. You
have always been there to help and support. We
are extremely grateful to have had you and continue to have you as a volunteer for the past 48
years.
Nick Osbelt has been a club member and choir
member for the last 64 years. Wow, that’s a lifetime.
He and his wife Else, have been involved in
many aspects in the life of Concordia. He sat as a
member of the club board for 12 years and as a
result was honoured to become an Honorary
Member in 2007.
Nick also acted as Vice-President of the choir
board for 14 years. During this time he was the
creator and publisher of the choir booklet of general rules, which is still given to all new choir
members. He is currently the registrar of all data
concerning Saenger des Jahres. In 1976 he was
honoured as Saenger des Jahres.

Nick and Joerg have worked together doing setup, and tear-downs for many years. Nick is also
seen regularly at the chicken barbeque and has
been seen at this post since l984 and each year
since. Thank you Nick for your dedication to
both the Male Choir and the Mixed Choir past
and present. We sincerely appreciate your effort,
time and talent.

It’s great to have an enthusiastic group with
a few new faces, namely Carmen and
Christine. The Treffpunkt group thanks the
executive and always looks forward to the
fabulous work that they do.
We tubed down the hill at Chicopee and
had a great time doing it on Friday February
12. The weeks beforehand were very warm,
even hitting record temperatures of 14C at
the beginning of February! Nonetheless, it’s
always fun to grab lots of tubes and go down
the hill all together.
Our Winter Getaway was the weekend after
the tubing. Thanks to Sandra for organizing
such a great event in Collingwood.

geburtstag - wir wünschen dir alles Gute

Dear Concordia Club Group Presidents,
I am writing on behalf of the Miss Concordia
Committee. As most of you know on April 9,
2016 we will be crowning our new Miss Concordia at Bockbierfest. This is a very special event
for the present and future Miss’ of the Club as
well as for the Club and Club members themselves. Being a “Miss” is a great opportunity to
get involved within the Club and the German
community and to keep up with German traditions and culture. Representing the Concordia
Club at various events throughout the year is a
big responsibility which helps to represent not
only the Concordia Club itself but also German
culture as a whole in the Kitchener-Waterloo
Region and beyond.
The girls work hard throughout the year, attending many functions within the Club as well as
out in the public, and therefore the Miss Concordia Committee is asking the Concordia groups, as
well as individuals and corporations, if they
would like to make a donation to the Miss Concordia fund to purchase appreciation gifts for the
contestants. We would like to show our appreciation first, to Miss Concordia 2015, Megan Kerr,
for representing our Club so well and second, to
Congratulate the New Miss Concordia 2016.
Any contributions from your group would be
greatly appreciated, and will show your support
for the future Miss' of the Club. Donations can be
made out to the Concordia Club with “Miss
Concordia” in the memo line.
If you would like Miss Concordia to attend your
group event, just send an email invite to myself
at pharmtech_06@yahoo.ca or put an invite into
my mailbox in the Club office. I will then forward your request on to Miss Concordia 2016.

Wieder ist es Zeit um unsere jungen Damen vom Concordia Klub
aufzufordern, sich für die “Miss Concordia”-Wahl zu bewerben
Die Bewerbungs-Unterlagen sind im Klubbüro erhältlich und sollen
auch dort wieder abgegeben werden.
Bei den Bewerbungen ist folgendes zu beachten:
 Bewerberin muss für ein Jahr Mitglied im Concordia Klub
sein
 Bewerberin darf nicht verheiratet oder geschieden sein
 Bewerberin muss 18 Jahre oder älter sein und möglichst die
deutsche Sprache sprechen.
 Miss Concordia 2016 sollte bei Klub- sowie öffentlichen
Veranstaltungen den Concordia Klub repräsentieren.
Mit dem Anmeldeformular sollte ein Passbild sowie eine kurze
Erklärung mit dem Thema: “Warum ich Miss Concordia werden
möchte” abgegeben werden,
Die Bewerberinnen werden zu einen Treffen eingeladen um die
Details auszuarbeiten.

We had our Annual General Meeting in
January and I have the following updates:
The Following dates were set for our Skat
group this year:

Congratulations, well played.
We are very thankful to Matthias Schuster
who took the role as Spielleiter for many
decades in our group. Matthias has stepped
down and Marcus Kallweit agreed to
become the new Spielleiter. Sigfrid Barta
will be 2nd Spielleiter and will help on
days when Marcus is not available.

BOCCE, BOCCE! Es ist wieder so weit, bald
koennen wir Bocce spielen. Um die neue
Spielsaison zu besprechen, treffen wir uns
am 27.April 2016 um 18:30 Uhr im Concordia Club, Jaegerstube. Neue Spieler sind
willkommen. Bis dahin gruesst euch Heidi

To talk about the upcoming Season we will
