Conejo Trail Riders April 2009 Newsletter
Family Fun through Motorcycle Trail Riding Hey there, CTR! I heard that the Father’s Day Event this year was a bit small, like last year, but those who attended had fun. My family and I did not attend because I was still in a cast. I am now in a “boot” which I am allowed to walk on with a crutch. The doctor say I may be out of the boot in 4-6 weeks. I am looking forward to that day!! Last month I forwarded a letter from a member asking for your input as to how to improve club participation— number of riders AND number of volunteers. I only received four responses, and only one response included any type of action. Kristine Green presented the idea of including a “trailmaster wish list” with every newsletter so that they may request assistance with specific tasks. The trailmaster’s email or phone number could be included with the wish list so that members reading the newsletter could contact the trailmaster and let them know that they could volunteer for a specific task. Each trailmaster might have different needs for their ride. I think this is worth a try. You will probably see a “wish list” in this newsletter. Thank you Kristine for all your efforts. CTR Newsletter July 2009 I hope to take a short vacation with my wife while my kids are in Maine for a couple of weeks. Just something simple to get away. No riding, unfortunately. I won’t be able to make the August social, but hope all that do have a great time. I look forward to catching up with all our CTR friends at the September event, which will have a larger turnout, hopefully, and I won’t be able to ride, but my family will enjoy participating again. Hope you’re all having a great summer. Your mission a rider’s dream. will then fall into place. The Trailmaster is King; the foundation for our Ed Chombeau club. Making every ride a “I got to go” event is essential to sustaining CTR. Focus on “grooming” Trailmasters. Use both the “carrot” and the “stick” approach. Requiring help from all members can be done; figure out a plan of action. Review our Mission; be sure U are as inclusive as U can be (non-riding entertainment). BUT; most important is the “RIDE” of the event. Again, be as inclusive as U can (all skill levels). Last, but not least; don't get bogged down in Nellis Air Force Base around 1970. “details;” this can damage the “Spirit of CTR.” Give Photo used without permission from the Web site encouragement and provide support to your Anasazi Offerings by Great Basin Pat: http://anasaziofferings.com/ Trailmaster's (The Kings—ok, Queens too). Page 7 July 2009 Request from the Newsletter Editor Urgent Email from the BlueRibbon Coalition I have gotten a great deal of positive feedback from editing the newsletter for CTR. I really appreciate being made to feel appreciated. But I’m ambitious. I’ve decided that I should set a new goal. I want to learn how to ribbon a course. I’m guessing that the best way to do this is to go out and “just do it,” but I would like to get some advice first. So, please could trailmasters and/or former trailmasters, email me or call me with some tips on how to ribbon a course? That would be a great start for me. Thank you: Kristine Green; snowfall@charter.net or (818) 745-3434. As I was editing the newsletter, I got an email from BlueRibbon Coalition asking for immediate action as budget talks are continuing today. "If there is one time you send a letter to Sacramento...it is TODAY. Send your letter and get as many of your friends to do the same. BRC has provided a sample letter that you can cut and paste and FAX/email to the following legislators including the chairperson of each committee. "The latest twist in the "Let's take money from the OHV Program" saga is that the folks under the dome in Sacramento are considering gutting the basic operating budget of OHMVR that funds state OHV parks and provides grants to other land agencies." I don't have space to publish their sample letter and list of legislators here.
