Sandie and Simon “As soon as we walked through the door, we ‘knew’” “ Ours is an old-fashioned tale full of love and romance, in which two friends fall in love and have a wedding that was a true expression of our devotion to each other. Simon and I were both in our midthirties when we met at a business networking event. We both had careers in media arts, we instantly had a connection and over the course of a year or so became very good friends... Three years later we were married at our dream location, Boscundle Manor. We had looked at many venues closer to home, currently Hampshire, but hadn’t found what we were looking for. Whilst vsiting family in Cornwall, we came across an advertisement for Boscundle Manor in a local brochure and thought it was worth a visit. As soon as we walked through the door, we ‘knew’! It felt just like ‘coming home’ and David and Sharon made us feel as welcome as family, it couldn’t have felt more “right.” We were looking for a venue that exuded style, yet in a relaxed environment, with that touch of luxury that it is understated but reinforced by so many little extras that you might not notice at first glance, e.g. the line of Hunter Wellies by the door, in all sizes, ready for guests to go walking in all weathers, or the Molten Brown toiletries in all the rooms. Small enough to feel intimate, yet big enough to handle our size of wedding (45 guests), we were able to take over the whole hotel for the weekend, from afternoon tea upon our arrival on the Friday, to a group breakfast the day after the ceremony. This enabled our special event to last longer than the usual afternoon and evening, and lessened the feeling of it all being over so soon. “Sharon was amazing in coordinating all of the details for the wedding” Sharon was amazing in coordinating all of the details for the wedding, from menu choices down to flowers and personalised confetti cones. We were very reassured by her previous experience in planning many large events, both in Cornwall and in London and she was, indeed, a treasure; taking away any worries that may have occurred on the day. We also chose to use David’s skills as a photographer (David Parker Photography). Both of us being photographers, we were very fussy when it came to deciding who to choose for our Wedding. David has a great “eye” for finding the truth in any photo, and certainly managed to capture our very real emotions on the day. Overall, our wedding was intimate, stylish and luxurious, with the utmost care given to every detail and we will always be grateful to David and Sharon for creating our wedding and welcoming us “Home” to Boscundle Manor. ” Their wedding featured: • 45 Guests • Exclusive use of the Hotel for Saturday night • Afternoon Tea on the lawn upon arrival on the Friday, including homemade lemonade, cream teas and sandwiches • Ceremony in the lounge of the hotel, decorated with flowers and candles • Canapés and drinks after the ceremony • 4 course Wedding Breakfast, with a choice from a bespoke menu for guests, including scallops, fillet steak, seabass, champagne sorbets and an assiette of desserts • Wine on the tables • Award winning Cornish “Champagne” for the toasts • Midnight bacon sandwiches and pasties for hungry guests • Honeymoon suite for 2 nights • Flower package • Photography package For the approximate cost of a wedding like this please refer to our price list, or visit boscundlemanor.co.uk Karen and Tom Formerly from Fowey, Tom is 28 and now lives and works in St Austell as a mortgage broker, Karen is 27, and works in St Austell as an HR Officer. “ Tom and I have known each other since secondary school and share the same circles of friends, but there was never any romantic interest for either of us until five and half years ago. At Christmas 2007, we started chatting during a night out and never looked back. Something which wasn’t there before was suddenly very much there for both of us, and that was it! Tom proposed to me on Christmas Eve 2010, when I was in my pyjamas eating cheese and pickles. Not at all glamorous on my part, but so much more exciting because it wasn’t expected or clichéd at all. We had looked at one or two venues before falling in love with Boscundle. I think once you’ve been to Boscundle, nothing else comes close. I have quite a lot of family who live in London, and having exclusive use of the hotel for the weekend really appealed to us. Tom has a younger brother, Rich, who is currently living the dream in Australia. Rich was Tom’s best man and came back for the wedding and Tom’s stag do in Marbella! We opted for 16th June 2012, so we had 18 months to plan everything with the help of Sharon at Boscundle. We particularly like the fact that we could choose our menu from scratch - for example, guests could choose from scallops, goats’ cheese or asparagus with duck egg for starter and lamb rump, fillet steak or chicken for main - all of our favourite foods! Both families descended upon Boscundle on Friday afternoon and had cream teas together whilst catching up. The children loved it, they were free to run about and use the swimming pool and it really felt like home. On the Friday night, we all had a deluxe BBQ together before the men went to the pub to watch the football. The women stayed at the hotel and drank cocktails and coffee. On Saturday morning, breakfast was brought up to our room for Mum and I before my hairdresser arrived. Tom had breakfast with everyone else, then went to the hottub with his best man and ushers to drink champagne. Everything was very relaxed! We were married on the lawn under the gazebo which was decorated with bright pink, purple and green flowers and foliage by Wedding Flowers Cornwall (Anna Sawle). The rain stayed away long enough for us to get married, drink Pimms and eat canapés on the lawn and have some amazing photos taken outside by Pervaiz Shah of Shah Photography, before sitting down to an amazing wedding breakfast. Our cake was a 3 tier fruit, lemon and chocolate sensation made by a family friend as a wedding gift. We had a local children’s entertainer come to Boscundle for an hour during the speeches, so the children weren’t bored and the parents weren’t stressed! In the evening, guests were served a variety of treats such as meatballs, pasties and chicken satay skewers before dancing to Risky Business, the Motown / funk band we hired for the evening. “I think once you’ve been to Boscundle, nothing else comes close” On the Sunday, all hotel guests (our families) had a lovely breakfast in the conservatory and talked about the day’s events. What stands out the most for me, is the fact that we didn’t have to worry about a single thing over the whole weekend. Sharon and David managed everything like a military operation, everything ran so smoothly and all of our guests had an amazing time. Also having exclusive use of the hotel meant everyone felt incredibly relaxed. Having Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the hotel meant our ‘special day’ was more like a ‘special long weekend’! ” Their wedding featured: • 96 day guests, 150 evening guests • 2 nights exclusive use • Afternoon cream tea on arrival • BBQ on Friday night for 30 guests • 3 suites for 2 nights • Gazebo civil ceremony with cover • Canapes and welcome drinks Pimm’s No1 • Marquee reception • 4 course wedding breakfast including Scallops, Asparagus, Lamb, Fillet, Eton Mess • Toasting drink - Prosecco • Evening food - Stick, pick and dip incorporating satay chicken, chilli prawns, fish and chips in cones and cocktail pasties • Flower package • Bridal party flowers by Anna of Wedding Flowers in Cornwall • Photography by Pervais Shah of Shah Photography • Children’s entertainer Chloe the Clown • Cake by Pippa Thomas • String Quartet - Melegari • Band by Karen at Perfect Party Cornwall • Dress by Ian Stewart from Fantasia, Lostwithiel • Chair covers by Sitting Pretty For the approximate cost of a wedding like this please refer to our price list, or visit boscundlemanor.co.uk “Everything we had ever dreamed it would be” Sophie and Matt Sophie is a family support worker for families with needs and disadvantaged and abused children. Matt is currently studying a PHD molecular microbiology, and works in sales for a biotech company, they currently live in Hertfordshire, but are in the process of moving to Essex. “ We met through a mutual friend, one of the ushers and were good friends for a month which then progressed to be in a relationship I was 18 years and Matt 19 and I simply thought Matt was the best person I’d ever met, and Matt thought I was gorgeous. For the first 3 years we were in a long distance relationship due to Matt studying away which I found very difficult, missing Matt everyday. We spent every possible moment together which was very special. Matt came home and we moved in together, and I had never been happier. We knew marriage was on the cards, and were very open in making our plans together, we both knew we would get married in Cornwall. Matt proposed to me on Bedruthen Steps, Carmewas Beach. The first time we had visited, we had thought “This is our beach” and this time Matt went down on one knee, told me how much he loved me and how he wanted to be with me forever. It was a beautiful sunny warm day, and our wedding day was exactly the same 2 years later on the very same date and 9 years to the day from our very first kiss. Perfect. I had researched wedding venues online, and as we both love Cornwall, visiting every year, it was always going to be our location of choice. I saw photos of Boscundle, and it just looked so homely and not in the least bit corporate. We visited Boscundle the day after we became engaged, and loved it at first sight. Matt said “this is it, this is the one.” We loved that we could have what ever we wanted, Sharon and David were open to everything, they were also very excited with our wedding plans. Seamless perfection! Our wedding was themed around Cornwall and the seaside, from the seaside bucket favours filled with Cornish fudge and candy rock to an old fashioned ice cream van serving homemade ice creams. We are so so happy with how our wedding weekend turned out. We started Friday with a BBQ and drinks with guests who were staying at Boscundle to get the party started. We ended the night in the hot tub with our ushers, best man, chief bridesmaid and bridesmaids. All had champagne, lots of laughter. Matt and I said our goodbyes, boys stayed in the hot tub while girls got their beauty sleep! Our three bridesmaids, my mum and I got ready in the bridal suite. It was a lovely, chilled and fun morning. Matt got ready with the boys; enjoying beers in the sunshine. The ceremony was perfect, we both forgot that we were in front of our 75 guests, lost in each others eyes as we declared our love for each other. We couldn’t stop smiling and giggling with pure joy. We had photos at Charlestown by the tall ships, it was so much fun. Our photographers ‘Kiss Photography’ were amazing to be with. We felt that we were hanging out with friends. They put so much imagination into our photos. We returned to Boscundle for a reception meal and speeches, followed by live music and the disco and we didn’t stop dancing all night. We had a spectacular firework display in the evening all choreographed to “Don’t Stop Me Now” by Queen. It was simply fantastic... And that perfectly sums up Boscundle Manor as a wedding venue. Sharon and David helped create a wedding for us which was everything we had ever dreamed it would be. Their wedding featured: • 75 day guests only • Exclusive use for 2 nights • 3 suites for 2 nights • Cream tea on arrival • BBQ for 50 on Friday night • Bridal makeup package • Civil ceremony in thatched gazebo with cover for guests • Canapes and welcome drinks of Cornish Rattler, Buck’s Fizz and home made lemonade • Marquee reception • Wedding breakfast of sharing seafood platters of scallops, calamari, crab, prawns, smoked salmon, smoked fish, crayfish tails, charcuterie, figs, Parma ham, salami, melon, rustic breads, chorizo, artichoke hearts, fish and chips and bangers and mash, Assiette of mini desserts baked cheesecake, chocolate fudge cake, mini meringue nests with berries • Table wine and Camel Valley Brut for toasting • Evening food of cream tea and sandwiches • Flowers by Mum (florist) • Fireworks by Sonic (gift from Groom’s parents) • Photography by Kiss Photography For the approximate cost of a wedding like this please refer to our price list, or visit boscundlemanor.co.uk “Our day was perfect, from beginning to end’” Lindsey and Matt Matt is a mechanic and a retained fire fighter. Lindsey is a teacher. They were born in Cornwall and have grown up there, enjoying the countryside and coast, as well as the cinema, going to the beach and, of course, the compulsory hobby of surfing. “ I would like to say our story was love at first sight but only on my part as Matt had a girlfriend. We became friends for a while but later lost touch until we were reunited by fate a few years later when ours eyes met across a crowded bar and that was the beginning. I was 17 and Matt was 18 at the time. Matt proposed, at Porth Beach in Newquay. on our ten- year anniversary of being together, after asking permission from my Dad. He was hoping for a glorious sunny day but as we well know, in Cornwall these are very far and few between so we got bustled and blown along the beach until Matt pulled me to one side (sheltered by rocks so I could actually hear him) and got down on one knee; this was the first and probably the last time I have actually seen Matt nervous. I, of course, said yes (especially after having to wait 10 years) and the planning commenced. We chose Boscundle Manor after falling in love with it at first sight - both of us this time! From the moment we stepped inside the door we knew it was right for us, it had an old country house charm and we loved the entrance with the wellie boots and the large open fire in the lounge. Sharon certainly had a task on her hands getting us organised as we are both quite laid back and are in the habit of leaving everything to the last minute but she did a fantastic job! On the wedding day, the girls and I got ready out at my Dad’s house, very close to Boconnoc Church, and Matt got ready at our house. He arrived in style at the Church in a VW Camper called ‘Lulu’ from Strawberry Leisure. Pelynt Male Voice Choir sang Christmas carols in the Church to greet guests as they arrived. The camper then collected my Dad, the bridesmaids and I - and we arrived fashionably late at the Church. Before the traditional wedding march began the choir sang ‘Walking in a Winter Wonderland’ which is a particular favourite of mine. During the signing of the registers our guests were encouraged to get involved by singing ‘The Twelve Days of Christmas’. Matt and I rode in the camper to Boscundle where we were greeted by glasses of warm winter pimms and mulled wine. Our wedding breakfast was held in a marquee, we opted for an informal arrangement with tables named after the nine reindeers and the guests names being written as a ‘naughty’ and ‘nice’ list. Sparklers were a big hit with all ages and the food was perfect. We were served pâté / soup to start, followed by fillet steak which was carved by a nominated carver on each table and topped off with a chocolate fondue. Everyone was delighted with the food and it is very hard to please a room filled with several farming families who love their food and plenty of it! The food is still a talking point to date! Our evening guests increased the numbers to 130 and the party was started off by our joint wedding speech, the cutting of the cake and the throwing of the bouquet which my sister Mel caught (and yes, she is now engaged to be married next year!). Geoff Gillet was our DJ during the evening and guests were asked for song requests on the invitations. This included some interesting choices such as ‘Combine Harvester’ by The Wurzels and ‘Barbie Girl’ by Aqua. The guests enjoyed a sumptuous Cornish style buffet in the evening which included mussels, pasties and scones with jam and cream. All guests who stayed at Boscundle had an equally impressive breakfast served the next day in the conservatory and then enjoyed a dip in the pool and hot tub. We look back at our wedding day with great fondness and wouldn’t have changed a single thing. Our day was perfect from beginning to end! ” Their wedding featured: • 91 day guests, +39 extra for evening • One night exclusive use • Marquee from Absolute Canvas • Church wedding at Boconnoc • Welcome drinks of Winter Pimm’s and mulled wine • Wedding breakfast of warming velouté and poppy seed cheese straw ‘amuse bouche’. They had a fun, fresh green apple theme that followed right through the day, from apple place names to the cider toast. With just over 50 guests for the day and only an extra 20 for Kayleigh and Matt the evening, it was small enough to be personal but large enough to ensure a great party atmosphere. The adults were spoilt with a choice of fillet steak, duck or lamb whilst the younger guests were kept happy with a ballon entertainer and party food just for them. The evening was spent enjoying pork and crackling with apple sauce, and dancing before finally surprising the guests with a group sky lantern release into the night. Their wedding featured: • 54 day guests, +20 evening guests • 2 nights exclusive use • All rooms included • Wedding Breakfast - Scallops, Charcuterie, Goat’s cheese, Fillet, Lamb, Duck, Roulade, Banoffi pie, Panna Cotta Kayleigh and Matt’s wedding was totally unique and personal to them. They were married in May, 2012 at a local church, then arrived from the ceremony, to an informal gathering of their closest friends and relatives at the gorgeous Boscundle Manor. Relaxed mingling followed with a delicious finger buffet being served, including mini yorkshire puddings and strawberries dipped in chocolate, whilst guests roamed the gardens and the house, completely stress free, sipping Pimm’s and home made lemonade. Eleven years ago, my husband David and I bought Boscundle Manor, having lived next door for many years, where I would peer through the fence and see what famous people I could spot. Years later and we have put our hearts into creating the unique and beautiful Boscundle Manor, which we believe to be the most romantic and luxurious Wedding Venue in Cornwall. We offer the complete package and can help bring your dream to life, starting with the hen party, complete with luxurious spa treatments for you, your friends and family, right through to the big day itself. E&OE I continue to love each and every wedding, and embrace new styles, choices and the fact that every wedding is as unique and as individual as you are, because reflecting your style and individual personalities is of the utmost importance. I truly believe a wedding co-ordinator assists, but does not take over, as this would dilute your style on the day. My top tips are stay true to yourselves and enjoy the planning process whilst remaining focussed on what needs to be done at certain times by using our countdown planner, which will help keep your mind clear. Remember, stay calm and don’t panic! Buy a few good quality magazines such as WED magazine, check out TV shows such as Wedding TV and create a mood board, scrap book or use Pinterest to pull your style ideas together. Attention to the little details will set your wedding apart, thoughtfulness goes a long way and not necessarily the amount of money you spend, we are happy to include the personal touches that make your day truly your own. Do however, put your main budget into the food for the day, as the one thing your guests will remember about your wedding is the food, and we want that to be for all the right reasons including how fantastic it was! This has been all about us and now we want to hear about you! So congratulations on your engagement, I hope you like our wonderful wedding brochure and I can’t wait to hear about your wedding plans.
