GROW STRONGER BE HEALTHIER LIVE HAPPIER Winter 2015 Programs BOLL FAMILY YMCA WELCOME TO THE Y. For over 150 years, the Y has served communities in Metropolitan Detroit, creating opportunities where children and families can grow. While our programs and facilities are always based on the unique needs and interests of our communities, every Y has one thing in common: our people. The volunteers, staff, members and donors of the Y are all united by a deep commitment to strengthening the community. Our Cause Defines Us We know that lasting personal and social change comes about when we all work together. That’s why, at the Y, strengthening community is our cause. Every day, we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. Our Areas of Focus The Y is a cause-driven organization that is for youth development, for healthy living and for social responsibility. That’s because a strong community can only be achieved when we invest in our kids, our health and our neighbors. Youth Development - Nurturing the potential of every child and teen. Healthy Living - Improving our community’s health and well-being. Social Responsibility - Giving back and providing support to our neighbors. Our Impact is Felt Every Day With a mission based on Judeo-Christian principles, the Y is dedicated to putting its principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all. Our impact is felt when an individual makes a healthy choice, when a volunteer mentor inspires a child, when a community comes together for the common good. We’re Here for Everyone The Y offers affordable programs and services designed to benefit people of all incomes and backgrounds. Fees are based on the actual costs to provide each program. The Y uses contributed funds from the scholarship assistance program to ensure those unable to pay the stated fees are able to participate. If fees are a concern, please inquire at the courtesy counter for a scholarship application form. All records and inquiries are kept confidential and the form is simple to complete. 2 DATES AND HOURS Session Dates Winter 1: January 14–February 28 Winter 2: March 1–April 25 See individual programs for program/class length Winter Registration Dates Registration is open. WINTER 2015 PROGRAMS | BOLL FAMILY YMCA YOUTH DEVELOPMENT Nurturing the potential of every child and teen. CHILD CARE Child Development Center Ages 6 weeks–5 years The Boll Family YMCA offers quality, affordable child care for ages 6 Weeks to 5 Years. It is part of the Y’s mission to provide programs that encourage healthy development for children. Our child care program brings together a unique combination of resources to ensure that your child gains the skills and knowledge to successfully begin kindergarten. At YMCA Child Care, your child will be active and engaged with highly trained teachers who understand the importance of quality, guided play in every child’s development. Our Mission-Driven Approach to Child Care Providing quality, affordable care for your children is not just a business to us. It is our mission - a vital part of our commitment to the community. It is an approach that includes unique programs to make sure kids stay motivated intellectually, socially, emotionally and physically. We strive to deliver the program in a safe and positive YMCA environment. The YMCA is driven by community need, guided by community volunteers and open to all. Subject to available resources, no person is denied participation in a YMCA program solely due to financial inability to pay the fee. Philosophy Our Early Learning Center recognizes that play is children’s work, and that providing a rich environment where creative play promotes cognitive, emotional, physical and social development is critical to your child’s health. Our program is language rich, with emphasis on offering the children prereading and pre-writing experiences that will spark a lifelong love of language. The instructor will lead participants through core exercises that create balance between the muscles of the abdomen and the back. This class employs the most widely practiced form of yoga, Hatha. Hatha yoga refers to a set of physical exercises (known as asanas or postures), and sequences of asanas, designed to align your skin, muscles, and bones. Best for beginners, in this class students will perform poses one at a time with a “rest” in between. More experienced students will be equally challenged.
