Keystone Portuguese Water Dog Club NEWS BUOY S June 2012 KPWDC Supported Entry 2012 aturday, May 12, dawned clear and dry — a perfect day for the Keystone Portuguese Water Dog Club’s Supported Entry. This popular Conformation event is held every year in conjunc- tion with the Chester Valley Kennel Club show at Ludwig’s Corner. Sweepstakes This year’s Sweeps were judged by Rita Araujo, a PWD breeder BOB Indy displaying fine reach and drive from Dighton, Massachusetts. There were nineteen entries in various Puppy and Veteran classes. Best Puppy (from the 12 – 18 month class) was Downeast No Rhyme No Reason, owned by Kathan Kennedy of Hooksett, NH. The Best Veteran in Sweeps was Joanne Chilton’s Paws (CH Windruff All Paws on Deck). last year’s Winners Dog and Best of Winners. At the conclusion of the judging, the club hosted a scrumptious luncheon and an exciting raffle followed by a General Membership meeting. Winners from Downeast along with Steve Dostie and Kathan Kennedy Rita Araujo taking a final look at Paws Results of 2012 KPWDC Supported Entry Regular Classes Thirty-six PWDs entered in Regular Classes and were judged by Jean Fournier, a familiar face in the Breed ring to anyone who has shown Portuguese Water Dogs more than just a little. The puppy classes had lots of fairly poised entries (for puppies), and showed lots of promise for future generations. As usual the Open classes for both dogs and bitches had some very fine looking Best of Breed: GCH Windruff Devil in the Deep Blue Sea Best of Opposite: CH Domarco’s Journey of a Lifetime Winners Dog & Best of Winners: Downeast Kwik Hide Your Heart Winners Bitch: Downeast No Rhyme No Reason PWDs. But the highlights of the classes were the brown dogs from Best of Veterans: CH Windruff All Paws on Deck Steve Dostie’s Downeast kennel, shown in the Bred by Exhibitor Best of Opposite, Veteran: CH Cutwater Till There Was You classes. Downeast Kwik Hide Your Heart took both Winners Dog and Best of Winners while kennel-mate Downeast No Rhyme No Best of Sweeps: Downeast No Rhyme No Reason Reason was Winners Bitch. Best of Opposite, Sweeps: Del Sur’s Blue Agave is for Players The final group of the day showed in the Best of Breed class. The winner here was Indy (GCH Windruff Devil in the Deep Blue Sea. Keystone’s Water Camp just ended this past week- end as I write this and a big thank you to Deborah Lee Miller-Riley for creating such enthusiasm among the participants. Our July 21, 2012 water workshop and trial is currently open August 11–12............................................ KPWDC Water Trial Codorus State Park, Hanover, PA and is a great opportunity for those new to water training to par- September 29–October 5............PWDCA National Specialty Lake Geneva, WI Sunday, there will be another opportunity to trial, and this trial October 14..................Picnic & General Membership Meeting Core Creek Park, Langhorne, PA Directions and additional information available at www.kpwdc.org ticipate in the morning workshop and trial in the afternoon. The August trial will be back at Codorus and, fingers crossed, no hurricanes this year! Ace (CH MACH3 Freestyle Best of Three CD RAE MXF WWD GROM) finished his Time 2 Beat Title at the Salisbury Kennel Club agility trial on June 3. And then a week later on June 10th at the Wilmington Kennel Club obedience trial, he finished his CDX with a 2nd place! Ace is loved, owned and handled by Lisa Wilkinson. Allie (GCH CH Freestyle You Can Call Me Al NAJ AWD) finished her Novice Fast agility title at the April Salisbury Kennel Club agility trial. Allie is loved, owned and handled by Lisa Wilkinson and co-owned by Jane Freeman. In April Virgie became a champion; she is now CH Turnabout Beachcomber’s Legacy. She is owned and loved by Lisa Wiley Also in April, Kidd (CH Turnabout Beachcomber’s Treasure) became a Grand Champion. In May, Kidd was best of breed at the Friday show of Chester Valley, and in June, he was BOS at Taconic KC, BOB at the Nutmeg specialty at Greenwich KC, BOB and Group 3 at Longshore-Southport KC the next day. Kidd is now BISS GCH Turnabout Beachcomber’s Treasure.
