32 Acre Park Under Construction
Along Grand Parkway
By Dennis Spellman/Covering Katy
Willow Fork Drainage District is constructing what
is known as the “32 Acre Park” on the north side of the
Cinco Ranch High School playing fields along the Grand
Parkway.
The park is being developed by the WFDD on property
it leased from the Katy Independent School District.
“It’s going to have walking trails, a lake and a pavilion,”
said Bill Odle of architectural firm TBG Partners. TBG is
managing the project. There also will be a Frisbee golf
course at the park.
“There will be trails that everybody can use but the school
can use for training too, and possibly for competitions,”
Odle said.
People will enter and exit the park from Cinco Ranch
Boulevard. An entranceway that is currently used for
Cinco Ranch High School will be extended along the
practice fields so residents can reach the park. There will
be parking along the expanded roadway and a parking
lot at the north end of the road. A pedestrian bridge will
be constructed that will allow people to walk from the
parking lot, over a large drainage ditch, to the park.
Asked about the additional traffic that could be created
on Cinco Ranch Boulevard, Odle said the park is designed
to be “a passive use park,” and designers don’t expect it
will contribute to traffic congestion in the area, which also
includes the busy shopping center LaCenterra.
When asked if an entrance from Falcon Landing
Boulevard had been considered, Odle indicated that there
may have been resistance from neighbors.
The park is expected to open in the spring or early
summer of 2016.
“It will be a great open space. It will help beautify the
area,” Odle said.

Men In Kilts Cleaning Up in Katy
Oilman Bob Cavnar loves kilts and is often seen wearing
one at social events around Houston. He enjoys kilts so much
that several years ago when he read about Men In Kilts, a
Canadian-based home services company, he was intrigued.
“I met with Nic Brand, the company’s founder, to find out
more,” Cavnar says. “I was wanting to start a company that
was fun, made money (we’re not a charity), and to provide
good jobs.” Men In Kilts fit the bill perfectly.
“How much fun would it be to have guys wearing kilts
show up at your house to clean your windows, pressure wash
your driveway, and clean your rain gutters?” said Cavnar.
This year, the time was right, and he purchased the Houston
franchise. “We decided to target veterans to be our techs,”
he says, “So we went after them; we now have members of
the Army, Navy, and the Marines wearing kilts and we’re
looking for more. We also love athletes. If you’re in shape
and don’t mind hard work, we want you. Oh, and you have
to like wearing a kilt to work every day.”
Cavnar also says that his kilted techs are employees, not
contractors, and are fully insured and bonded, unlike many
competitors. “It’s a huge benefit to have a service company
homeowners can trust to care for their homes. Our goal is to

ON OIL CHANGES
A few years ago, we made a decision to stop using conventional oil and started to use synthetic blend oi l in our oil
change service. Recently we also made a decision to shift to standard oil filters that extend the oil drain interval
from 3000 to 5000 miles. Even though this leads to less visits from our customers, we believe this is in the best interest
of everyone. You might find yourself paying a little bit more but you change the oil less. Less wasted time, less
wasted oil. Good for you and good for the environment. Not really good for us but that's okay.

West Memorial Tiger Sharks
7 Swimmers Take First Place in Meet of Champions
By Tom Behrenn
West Memorial Tiger Sharks, a member of WHALe
(West Houston Aquatic League) had 85 swimmers eligible
to participate in the end of season Meet of Champions held
at Tompkins High School swimming pool, Friday evening,
June 26. The Sharks competed against other teams in
Division Six of WHALe. Seven of the swimmers, who
finished first in their individual meets, continue on to swim
in the All Stars Meet, Monday evening, June 29 at Katy
High School pool against other first place winners from
other teams.
The Tiger Shark first place finishers in 9-10 years
old girls’ bracket: Lauren Wertz, freestyle, back stroke,
butterfly, individual medley, freestyle relay and medley
relay; Presley Bunting, freestyle and medley relay; Iris
Gantt, freestyle relay and medley relay.
In the girls’ 13-14 years old bracket first place winners:
Ellie Jensen, freestyle, back stroke, butterfly, breast stroke,
and individual medley; Elizabeth Ingram, mixed freestyle
relay, mixed medley relay.
Girls’ 15-18 years old, first place in mixed freestyle relay
were Faith Rutledge and Zoe Gonzalez.
Ellie and Carly Jensen are Kyle and Kim Jensen’s
daughters. Kyle is the President of the West Memorial Tiger
Sharks and Kim is one of the coaches. Besides swimming
for the Tiger Sharks, Carly and Ellie sister swim all year
for Power Aquatics. Ellie, who garnered five first place
medals at the Meet of Champions says her best stroke is
the individual medley.
“I had it pretty easy,” said Jensen, describing the Meet of
Champions. She wasn’t challenged much. At the All Stars
on Monday only 24 swimmers out of Division Six will be
chosen for each event. This is her fourth time she has made
it to the All Stars. Last year she finished 14. “I only swam
one event last year. I didn’t qualify for additional different
style meets.”
She expects some tough competition at the All Stars
Meet. “I think it will be tough to beat the other swimmers.
I know a bunch of other girls on my club team will be
swimming, and I know they are pretty good. I am a little
nervous about it, but I feel like I will do good.”
The Tiger Sharks are representative of the 31 other
WHALe teams in West Houston. Seasons began in April.
“The water was a little cool yet,” said Kyle Jensen.
These swimmers are dedicated to their sport. “During
the school year the kids come together for practice at the
West Memorial swimming pool from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.
In June we practice Tuesday through Friday from 7:30 to
10:30 a.m.”
It’s a competitive league, but many times kids register for the
Tiger Sharks don’t know how to swim the different strokes such
as the butterfly or breast stroke. “They might know how to swim
free style but the other strokes might be a little difficult,” says
Kyle Jensen. “We have to teach the strokes, but most kids know
a little bit of how to swim.
“Some of the six years old swimmers come and don’t even

Chicago White Sox Select Seven Lakes
Catcher Hickman
District 19-6A
According to Your Houston News, Seven Lakes High School
was represented in the Major League Baseball draft for the
third consecutive year as Spartans senior, Michael Hickman,
was selected by the Chicago White Sox in the 36th round.
Hickman, a left-handed catcher, is also committed to attend
and play baseball at the University of Oklahoma next year. He
has been on the professional prospect radar for multiple years,
including being selected for the 2014 Area Code Games.
Hickman, a three year varsity starter, was a key in the potent
Spartans lineup that helped produce an 11-3 league record and
the District 19-6A co-championship.
The Spartans’ MLB Draft run began with pitcher Donnie
Hart in 2013 when drafted by the Baltimore Orioles and continued last year with catcher Kyle Bacak drafted in the 25th
round by Washington Nationals.

Katy Running Back Kyle Porter Being
Wooed by Oregon
Fox Sports reports that Katy High School’s RB Kyle
Porter, a four-star recruit, is very interested in the Oregon
Ducks.
The Ducks are already stacked at running back for the
near future. Thomas Tyner and Royce Freeman will get the
bulk of the carries in 2015, while Byron Marshall, Kani
Benoit and Tony Brooks-James take turns in a reserve
role. Also, the Ducks have 2014 recruits Malik Lovette
and Taj Griffin competing for carries.
Needless to say, the Ducks are all set at RB. However,
Porter is listed as the No. 3 all-purpose back in the country.
The Ducks aren't going to let a player like that get away
without a fight.
As a sophomore in 2013, the 5-foot-11 Porter ran for
nearly 2,000 yards and 23 touchdowns, but shared the ball
with Oklahoma signee Rodney Anderson in 2014. Porter
ran for 1,051 yard and 16 touchdowns in 2014 and also
caught five touchdown passes.

Available to Recipients with a “my Social
Security Account “
The Social Security Administration introduced the expansion
of online services available through its my Social Security
portal available at www.socialsecurity.gov/myaccount. Carolyn
W. Colvin, Acting Commissioner of Social Security, announced
that Medicare beneficiaries can now obtain a replacement
card if they have lost, damaged, or simply need to replace it
online using a my Social Security account. "I’m excited about
this newest online feature to the agency’s my Social Security
portal and the added convenience we’re providing Medicare
beneficiaries," Acting Commissioner Colvin said. "Any my
Social Security account holder who misplaces their Medicare
card will be able to request a replacement card using their online
my Social Security account."
Requesting a replacement card through my Social Security
account is a convenient, cost-effective and secure way to ensure
Medicare beneficiaries have a critical piece of identification
available when required by medical providers as proof of
Medicare coverage. Simply access your online my Social
Security account at www.socialsecurity.gov/myaccount and
select the “Replacement Documents” tab. Then select “Mail
my replacement Medicare card.” After you request a card, it
will arrive in the mail in approximately 30 days.
my Social Security is a secure, online hub for doing
business with Social Security, and more than 19 million people
have created an a personal account. Current Social Security
beneficiaries can manage their account—change an address,
adjust direct deposit, obtain a benefit verification letter, or
request a replacement SSA-1099. Account holders still in the
workforce can verify their earnings, and obtain estimates of
future benefits. In addition to those existing services, Medicare
beneficiaries will now be able to request a replacement Medicare
card without waiting for a replacement form in the mail. For
more information about my Social Security or to establish an
account visit www.socialsecurity.gov.

Q: What are the benefits of making
my final wishes known in advance?
A: 7KH EHQH¿WV RI SODQQLQJ DKHDG
can be immense. With the help of a
professional, there are very simple
steps you can take to plan everything
in advance and in detail. A funeral or
memorial service not only gives your
loved ones a sense of closure, it’s a
celebration of your life. From special

and memorable event that allows
family and friends to say goodbye in
a unique way and know that they have
carried out their loved one’s wishes.
A funeral or memorial service
not only gives your loved
ones a sense of closure, it’s a
celebration of your life.
Q: What if I don’t make my final
wishes known?
A: On occasion, there are even family
disputes about how someone would
have wanted his or her remains to be
prepared for memorialization. In the
absence of a written plan, this important
decision—and many more—would be
left to your surviving family members.
Fortunately, all of this can be avoided
by putting a plan together in advance.
Q: Do you have any advice about
talking to my family about my final

Keep Pets Safe This Fourth of July
Pet owners can make the holiday as safe as possible for their dogs
and cats by following these tips:
• Bring all pets indoors whenever neighborhood fireworks displays
are likely. Secure dogs in a room and play music or turn on the
television to drown out the frightening sounds.
• Keep pets away from lit fireworks at all times, including your
own backyard, as some will chase after the bright moving objects
and are at risk to be burned or blinded in the process.
• Ensure that pets are wearing current identification tags.
For the ultimate identification protection, all pets should be microchipped so that they can scanned at an animal shelter or veterinary
office.
If your pet does go missing over the holiday, check with local animal
shelters immediately. Go to the shelter in person to identify your pet,
rather than calling or emailing the shelter, as staff may not be able to
respond in a timely enough fashion to ensure your pet’s safety.

Archoil's AR9100 uses four complex organic esters to effectively liquefy the oil, carbon,
varnish, and sludge deposits within the spool valve — not to mention it cleans the rest of
the injector and entire fluid system. This allows a Nanoborate (a proprietary protective
superlubricant) solid boundary layer to chelate to the deposit-free host alloy — helping
reduce metal-to-metal contact (i.e., friction) within the spool valve.
