Bodegas IRIUS
Development and recognition of the Somontano Designation of Origin
After three years of construction, July 2008 saw
the inauguration of Bodegas IRIUS, where wines
with the Somontano Designation of Origin are
cultivated.
Located in Barbastro, the capital city of the
District of El Somontano in Huesca, the facilities
are built into the ground to hide most of their
30,000 m2 of built-on area underneath a 355hectare vineyard.
The project, the work of J. Mariano Pascual, the
creator of other projects for famous wineries,
seeks to promote the development and
recognition of the Somontano Designation of
Origin through its architecture.
The building, into which 90 million Euros have
been invested, has a production capacity of 5,5
million litres of wine.
Most of the winery built is hidden below a layer
of plant life so that it blends in with the vineyard.
This situation is able to hide half of the height
of the complex and also encourages the saving
of energy in the building, reducing the need for
energy by up to 70% through the minimisation
of the use of artificial air conditioning and the
application of gravity as a technique for grape
and wine movement, supressing the use of
mechanical pumps.
Project: Bodegas IRIUS
TROX Contribution
Architect: JMP y Asociados Arquitectura
The building has been equipped with a mixed air conditioning
system managed by TROX TKM series air handling units,
operating alongside a wide selection of air distribution and
control parts that ensure the air conditioning of the different
rooms in the building and of the firm.
Construction: COSEHISA
Installation engineering:

Installer: EDASA Ingenierías y Montajes
Location: Barbastro, Huesca
TROX Solution:
TKM air conditioners
RN controllers
VDW swirl diffusers
Grilles ans continuous grilles,
AR, AEH-0 series
KST linear multi-jets
DID300B induction units
KST linear multi-jet nozzles have been installed in the large
tasting rooms and in the restaurant to guarantee air
conditioning with significant induction, and with no
bothersome draughts. The communal areas, corridors and
events hall have been equipped with long-range jet nozzles
that are particularly recommended for spaces with high
ceilings in which air travels a long distance to reach its
occupied zone.
The perimeter area of the façade is fitted with AEH-0 linear
grilles that counteract the effect of the thermal load entering
the building. Offices and VIP lounges are fitted with aesthetic
DID300B induction diffusers that help save energy in line
with the philosophy of minimising energy consumption
implemented in the winery.
