Dear NABS Members - National Association of Black Scuba Divers
Dear NABS Members, This is NABS 25th anniversary, and we want to dedicate this summit to you, the NABS Family, because you are the reason we’re here today. We thought the best way to celebrate this anniversary is to go to the land of paradise, the island of Maui in Hawaii. Maui offers something for everyone, whether you dive or not, and we believe this is the best place to say thank you to our members. So that you can enjoy this wonderful island, we have made this summit a la carte, meaning you can chooses how many days you dive, what days you dive, and what activities you want to do. We will also have community service activities that you can participate in if you wish. We hope you join us for our Silver Anniversary; it’s going to be a great time!! 2015 NABS Summit Committee NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF BLACK SCUBA DIVERS 25TH ANNUAL DIVE SUMMIT KA’ANAPALI BEACH HOTEL MAUI, HAWAII NOVEMBER 7 – 14, 2015 The Island: Maui was named after the demigod Maui, who legends say pulled the Hawaiian Islands from the sea and lassoed the sun atop Haleakala, the island’s highest peak. Maui is the second largest Hawaiian Island, with over 120 miles of coastline, and over 30 beaches. Activities available in Maui are surfing, golfing, hiking, scuba diving, snorkeling, wind surfing, biking, and whale watching (November through January). The Hotel: We will be staying at Ka’anapali Beach Hotel that is located on the northwest coast of Maui, which was once a retreat for Hawaiian royalty and the capitol of the Hawaiian Kingdom. The hotel is located on Ka’anapali Beach, which has three miles of white sand, and is one of Maui’s signature beaches. Ka’anapali Beach Hotel has been recognized as the “Most Hawaiian Hotel” by the Waiaha Foundation for demonstrating an ongoing responsibility, commitment and dedication to honoring and perpetuating the Hawaiian culture, they are the only hotel to receive this honor. On staff, they have full-time Hawaiian cultural advisors who offer their knowledge of Hawaii with guests by hosting 30 fun Hawaiian cultural activities with different options every day. If you are planning to rent a car, please be aware that parking cost $11 a day at the hotel. NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF BLACK SCUBA DIVERS 25TH ANNUAL DIVE SUMMIT KA’ANAPALI BEACH HOTEL MAUI, HAWAII NOVEMBER 7 – 14, 2015 Diving: We will be diving with Lahaina Divers, who have been in existence for over 35 years. The dive shop is located in the heart of the historical village of Lahaina, and will use their two 46 ft. boats to take out our divers. Each boat will have a maximum of 24 divers, and the boats are equipped with two fresh water showers, a fly bridge with viewing / seating for 12 guests, handicap accessible boarding and bathroom, PVC tank holds, sturdy dual ladders for easy exiting from the water to the vessel, and a “killer” stereo system. Activities: We’re coordinating with Ka’anapali Hotel to offer you a multitude of activities that you can do during your stay. Please see the attached activities list and sign up for what you would like to do, and we will have it ready for you when you arrive!! As stated earlier, Ka’anapali Beach Hotel is Hawaii’s most “Hawaiian Hotel”, so they offer free Hawaiian cultural activities during the week (see below).
