HIKE THE GREENBELT
Hike The Greenbelt Invitation to Partner on a Leg of the Project. The Halifax Greenbelt exists, and it is beautiful. Halifax’s Green Network Plan, currently in development, is our chance to keep it. This plan is an opportunity to create an inspiring system of protected natural landscapes, but to achieve its full potential, the plan will need widespread public support. So let’s show Halifax the incredible natural world it has. We are leading a series of hiking, biking, canoeing, swimming, running, and camping trips in a giant loop through the Greenbelt, from the Porters Lake Canal to Saint Margaret’s Bay, to raise awareness about the lands we want to see protected. We seek to create a buzz by attracting the greatest possible diversity of people to each leg of the trip and to have them share photos and stories online. We will upload blog posts as we pass through each area to draw attention to threats and opportunities. We will invite media, Councillors, business people and other key groups to make sure the conversation about what we stand to gain goes far and wide. We are looking for groups who would like to partner on a leg of the project. Partnering is an opportunity to draw attention to issues you care about, and would involve the following: • • • • Organizing activites for the beginning, middle or end of the leg, such as a BBQ, picnic or guided tour. Spreading the word and inviting participants to the leg. Helping to identify people to speak on local issues. Writing or providing information for a blog post on a local topic. We hope that you will be as excited as we are to make this project a success. We look forward to discussing further, and we would be happy to answer any questions you may have.
