youth through acting is a strong self-esteem builder, every student has the
opportunity to become a “star.” C.A.T.’s encourages students to go beyond
their perceived limitations to find that place of play and magic that resides
in all of us. Our format allows children the ability to experience the process
of auditioning for a production; learn acting techniques; perform onstage
in theatrical productions; and work on the technical aspect of theatrical
productions. Our goal is to provide opportunities for students regardless
of their skill level - beginner, intermediate or advanced.
FALL/WINTER SESSION
This session is our Theater Performance. This focuses on a large scale
production that begins with the audition process, and results with an
onstage performance held at the Lebanon Junior High. The Spring Session
is a Performing Arts Class that emphasizes exposing students to a variety
of different theater genre - from comedy to drama. The class is technique
based and allows students to grow and progress by learning specific skills

with at least one (maybe more) working, clay whistles. We will make the whistle
using either white or brown clay. Two pinch pots of the same size scored and
slipped together creates the chamber for the whistle. A simple mouth piece is
then formed, a few cuts made to the chamber, put them together and you have
a whistle. At this point, we will begin to build or hand-sculpt a bird or an animal
around the basic whistle. You will be limited only by your own creativity. When
the sculpture is done to each person’s satisfaction, the piece is allowed to dry
and then it is bisque fired. The next step is to glaze or color the whistle using
either under-glazes or regular glazes. With the second firing it is complete and
you will take home a whistle to treasure or to give as a gift.

CHRISTIAN
EMPHASIS
Looking for avenues to grow your spirit through chaplain counsel, Bible study,
group meetings. The YMCA has something for you. Join a study group.
CHRISTIAN EMPHASIS
At Countryside we believe that our mission should not merely be words upon a wall,
but something that is lived out in real lives. Our world is in desperate need of hope,
love, kindness, joy and other Christian principles that have shaped this movement
for over 150 years. We desire, above all else, that people would experience
these through our community and that the constant impression would be, “there
is something different about this place!” Jesus promised to give life in “all of its
fullness” and we hope and pray that Countryside YMCA would point people towards
this type of life. Below are some of the ways that we uplift the “C” in the YMCA.
BIBLE STUDIES
Free Bible Study groups offered throughout the year. Check the “Newsletter”

ALPHA COURSE
WHAT IS ALPHA? Alpha is an opportunity to explore the meaning of life
in a relaxed, friendly setting. The Alpha course usually meets once per
week for 10 weeks, and includes an amazing one-day retreat. Each session,
people enjoy snacks, laughter and learning in a fun and friendly atmosphere
where no question about life or God is seen as too simple or too hostile…
questions like—Is there a God? Why am I here? Where did I come from?
Where am I going?
Alpha is for anyone…anyone who thinks there may be more to life than meets
the eye. People attend from all backgrounds, religions, and viewpoints. They
come to investigate questions about the existence of God, the purpose of
life, the afterlife, the claims of Jesus and more. Some people want to get
beyond religion and find a relationship with God that really changes life.
Others come for the close, long-lasting friendships that are built during the
Alpha course. Many guests have never been to church, others may have
