SIME DARBY MOTORS AT A GLANCE RETAIL DISTRIBUTION ASSEMBLY RENTAL 1. Sime Darby Motors is the automotive arm of Sime Darby Berhad. With over 40 years of experience, Sime Darby Motors is a major industry player in the Asia Pacific region. It has presence in 8 countries across Asia Pacific and sells over 80,000 vehicles per year. 2. Other than the retail, distribution and assembly businesses, Sime Darby Motors is also a long-term partner and representative for Hertz, the car rental business in Malaysia and Singapore. In Australia, Sime Darby Motors operates Corefleet, a specialist in commercial vehicle rental. 3. In FY 2012/13, Sime Darby Motors registered a record turnover of RM17.3 billion. 4. Sime Darby Motors currently represents 31 marques, ranging from luxury brands such as BMW, McLaren and Rolls-Royce, to various mass market brands like Ford, Peugeot and Hyundai, and trucking names like Hino and Mack. 5. Sime Darby Motors represents 29 different brands in various countries in Asia Pacific region. 2. Sime Darby Motors retail operations offer a wide range of vehicles, from compact to luxury cars as well as commercial vehicles. 3. Among the brands represented by Sime Darby Motors are BMW, MINI, Rolls-Royce, Peugeot, Hyundai, Ford and Land Rover. 4. Sime Darby Motors is focused on selling quality products supported by excellent after-sales services. 5. Retail operations of Sime Darby Motors feature some of the best facilities in the region. DISTRIBUTION 1. Sime Darby Motors imports and distributes, among others, BMW, MINI, Rolls-Royce, Ford, Land Rover, Peugeot, Hyundai, Porsche, Suzuki, Alfa Romeo and Mitsubishi passenger vehicles in various markets in the Asia Pacific region. 2. Sime Darby Motors first distribution business began more than 40 years ago through the distribution of BMW vehicles. 3. BMW is currently the number one luxury brand in Singapore, Hong Kong and Macau (based on 2012 Total Industry Volume figures) where Sime Darby Motors is its distributor. 4. Sime Darby Motors made its foray into the Australasia market in 2001 when it signed an exclusive partnership with Peugeot. 5. Recent collaborations were formed with Porsche in Malaysia; Jaguar and Land Rover in China; Citroen in Australia and New Zealand . 6. In the commercial vehicles sector, Sime Darby Motors imports and distributes Hino, UD Nissan, Mitsubishi Fuso, Hyundai, Mack and Renault brands. 7. Sime Darby Motors serves as a bridge between its principals and customers through its extensive network in the markets that it operates. ASSEMBLY 1. In 2004, Sime Darby Motors, through its subsidiary, Inokom Corporation Sdn. Bhd. (INOKOM), began operating an assembly plant in Kedah, Malaysia. Materials are sourced from the respective principals overseas as well as locally, which are then assembled for sales mainly in the Malaysian market. 2. INOKOM assembles various Hyundai passenger and commercial vehicles as well as BMW, Land Rover and Mazda. 3. The plant has a current capacity of 30,000 units per annum. 4. INOKOM, which occupies only 40% of a 200-acre site, has the potential to expand its production facility and is poised to meet increasing demand from the Asia Pacific region. 5. In 2012, INOKOM launched its own Vendors Park to house their current vendors adjacent to the manufacturing plant. Range Rover Evoque TIMELINE 1974 Sime Darby Motors acquired BMW Concessionaires (HK) Ltd., the sole importer and distributor of BMW cars and motorcycles in Hong Kong and Macau 1979 Performance Motors Ltd. (PML) gained dealership rights of BMW cars and motorcycles in Singapore 1981 • Pernas Sime Darby Holdings acquired a 49% interest in Ford Motor Company of Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. • Tractors Singapore Ltd. was appointed sole distributor for Land Rover and Range Rover vehicles and parts in Singapore. It also became the franchise holder for Ford passenger cars and commercial vehicles in Singapore • Land Rover Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., the sole franchise holder in Malaysia and Brunei was set up between Pernas Sime Darby Holdings and Land Rover Ltd. of the UK 1982 • Sime Darby Motors entered the hire and drive business through the setting up of Hertz franchise for Malaysia and Brunei • The first Mercedes Benz 280SE and the first locally assembled Land Rover was rolled out from the Associated Motor Industry (AMI) Shah Alam assembly plant 1986 Sime Darby Hong Kong Ltd. acquired sole distributorship rights for the Suzuki motor vehicle franchise in Hong Kong and Macau 1991 The first Malaysian assembled BMW 730iL rolled out of the AMI assembly plant, making Auto Bavaria the first BMW importer to assemble the vehicle outside Germany 1987 • Sime Darby Hong Kong Ltd. acquired sole distributorship rights for the BMW motor vehicle franchise in Hong Kong and Macau • Auto Bavaria Sdn. The first multi-storey motor service centre was also set up in Shenzhen.
