WELCOME TO ST. BRUNO CHURCH/ BIENVENIDOS At our Sunday Mass, we come together from all our small communities and celebrate our oneness in Christ. Take a little time to get to know the folks you are celebrating Mass with. . * PARISH OFFICE CLOSED ON MONDAYS/CERRADA LOS LUNES * BULLETIN DEADLINE: Tuesday 3:00 p.m. REFLECTIONS / REFLECCIONES THE RICHNESS OF THE SPIRIT Students, and most adults recalling their school days, are familiar with the phrase “compare and contrast” that shows up from time to time on tests. Today we hear two different accounts of the giving of the Holy Spirit to the Church. Let’s contrast, then compare. Luke’s account from Acts is filled with arresting details: the mighty wind from heaven, the tongues of flame, the miracle of different languages. John’s account seems timid: fearful disciples, the wounded Christ, the expelling of breath from His risen body, not from the sky. Our literal, modern minds wonder which way it happened; our noisy culture probably makes us prefer the former. But if we compare the two, we find that the dazzling richness of the Spirit fills both accounts, for it is the very breath of the risen Christ, ascended to the sky in Luke, that appears to His disciples in John and sends His followers forth to carry on His mission of forgiving sin and proclaiming the mighty acts of God. © Copyright, J. S. Paluch Co. TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — Filled with the Holy Spirit, the apostles begin to speak in tongues (Acts 2:1-11). Psalm — Lord, send out Your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth (Psalm 104). Second Reading — In one Spirit we are baptized into one body and given to drink of one Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:3b-7, 12-13). Gospel — Jesus Christ appears to His disciples and sends them on their mission with the power to forgive or retain sins through the Holy Spirit (John 20:19-23). FEAST OF FAITH Liturgy: Work of the Spirit The Spirit of God who hovered over the waters at the dawn of creation—the Holy Spirit who descended upon the disciples at Pentecost in ever-changing forms in the sound of a mighty wind or tongues of flame—hovers also over our celebration of the liturgy, giving it life, making it real. It is the Spirit of God who draws us, gathering us together, Sunday after Sunday. It is the Spirit of God who called loudly to the inspired writers of the scriptures and who continues to whisper to us, revealing ever-new facets of God’s word, granting insight just when we need it. It is by the Spirit’s power that, when Christ’s words are uttered by the priest, the bread and wine become the Body and Blood of Christ. And it is surely the Spirit who inspires us—that is, breathes in us—when, sent forth from the assembly, we seek ways to serve our brothers and sisters, to allow the gospel to come to life in the world. Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your faithful, and kindle in them the fire of Your love. —Corinna Laughlin, © Copyright, J. S. Paluch Co. Happy Birthday, Church ! —Miguel Arias, © Copyright, J. POPE BENEDICT’S 60TH ORDINATION ANNIVERSARY Catholics urged to participate in 60 hours of Eucharistic Adoration Called to pray for vocations USCCB Vocations Office offers prayer card on the Web WASHINGTON (May 26, 2011) Catholics worldwide are asked to mark the Sixtieth Anniversary of Pope Benedict’s ordination to the priesthood with sixty hours of Eucharistic prayer for vocations. Our Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI, will celebrate his anniversary on June 29, the Solemnity of St. Peter and St. Paul. In honor of his anniversary, the Vatican Congregation for Clergy suggested Catholic clergy and faithful be invited to participate in Eucharistic Adoration with the intention of praying for the sanctification of the clergy and for the gift of new and holy priestly vocations. Dioceses nationwide are planning prayers before the Blessed Sacrament in June. Celebrations might conclude by July 1, the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the World Day of Prayer for Priests. “This is an excellent opportunity to give thanks for our Holy Father, to pray for all our priests, and to ask the Lord for more vocations to the priesthood,” said Archbishop Robert J. Carlson of St. Louis, chairman for the Committee on Clergy, Consecrated Life and Vocations. “The Holy Father has been an outstanding model of priestly ministry and service to the Church.” CONGRATULATIONS to Leslie Molina on her recent Quinceñeara 6/4 For a Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekend, call Paul & Yvonne at 650.366.7093 or go to sf.wwme12.org.
