PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Summer 2012
Summer is upon us and it best evidenced with our approaching July 4th BBQ. Your activities committee
is gearing up to have a bigger and better holiday and we will be adding more things for the kids this year. Why?
1.) We feel that most residents will be staying close to home because there will be no “long” weekend and 2.) A
number of families have heard our plea and have joined CVHOA. Thank you to those of you who feel that our
HOA is truly a valuable asset.
The July 4th BBQ will not be the only event this summer, we are looking to do more fun things and of
course don’t forget our season ending event, the Family BBQ which will be held on Sunday September 2nd. To
those residents who are still not members of CVHOA, you will find that attending these activities as a non member will be costing you more and more each time so do the math. It will be more economical to join the HOA.
If you attended the Fiesta like me, I’m sure you had a great time but ate and drank too much. Thank you
Larry and Myron for once again putting on a quality dinner with entertainment from our own Scott Wimmer as
the D.J. Almost all of our City Council members (including Mayor Mary Sue Maurer) were in attendance as
well as our City of Calabasas Manager, Tony Coroalles. The exciting news for the evening was the announcement that all the paperwork and agreements have been signed for the Mulholland Highway landscaping project.
Watch for a notice for a groundbreaking ceremony which will take place right outside the park along the highway and will signal that work will soon begin. I know it’s been a long process but hopefully the wait will be
worth it when we see the front of our park in a new light. The board of CVHOA would like to thank the City
Council for their efforts in helping to make this project become a reality.
One of the great “Perks” of living here in Calabasas is the opportunity to have a great relationship with
our City government. I can’t imagine going to a function and being able to sit down with the Mayor of Los Angeles to discuss issues and ways to solve our problems like I did at the Fiesta with our City Council members.
Our newest City Council member David Shapiro inquired when he would be invited to one of our HOA board
meetings . . . it is amazing to me to have this type of contact with any government person. I might add, this relationship did not happen by chance, it is a relationship that your HOA developed over the past 20 years. Another
reason to join and support CVHOA.

CHATTERING
This month’s Chattering is a follow up to Peyton Bella’s Park Roller coaster proposal.
Anahi said that yogi the dog, wanted to it the
Squirrel Racer and because no one submitted any name suggestions we decided to go
forward with Squirrel Racer just to say we’ve
been busy working on the idea.
The Squirrel Racer would be good for a lot of
reasons. Future Evel Knievel (dare devils)
like Jace, Alex, Tommy, Patrick, Anthony,
etc. could use it for cannon balls into the
swimming pool, deep thinkers like Francesca, Maya, Jazmine, Nicole, etc. could
spend quiet reflective time reading a book
inside one of the cars, during none operating
hours. Phyllis could paint “Join the Homeowners Association” on the sides of one of
the cars, Debby with the Flair could list the
next future Movie Night and Madelyn could
remind dog walkers to clean up after their
dogs. Yogi, Max, Teddy, Smiley, Nicky, Biscuit, and Mimi could use the Squirrel Racer
to invite squirrels to a picnic lunch. Frenchy
could show the young ladies the proper attire
and etiquette for roller coaster riding and
Evan Smith could give an aerial tour of the
native vegetation growing along the hillsides.
Park Owners, Larry and Myron could make
the inside pages of People Magazine. Peyton
Bella would be the poster child of how a little
idea can grow. Occasionally, our imagination
gets a little carried away.
Our question of the month was “What are
you going to be doing on July, 4th,” but everyone’s answer was the same, 4th of July Barbeque and fireworks. Gabby Smith is going
to Mammoth; it’s 4th of July there too. THANK
YOU, beforehand, Phyllis for the hard work
that you and the volunteers do setting up the
4th of July Barbeque. It’s a great way to get to

July 4th is all about being united while celebrating different cultures and backgrounds.
Our candle has just about burned out, and
Yogi has just finished reading “Lassie Come
Home.” Wait! Wait!, we have just learned
Myron is going to sit down and talk to us for a
special interview. We can’t wait to find out
what he thinks about the Squirrel Racer. Until
next month or when we see you in a few
days at the 4th of July Barbeque.

CVERT—Calabasas Village Emergency Response Team
June CVERT meeting was cancelled. With
people on vacation and my just back from
one and leaving within the week it seemed
best to postpone the meeting until we meet
in August. So look forward to seeing everyone the 4th Thursday of August and hope
everyone is having a great summer.
When I am out of town CVERT is not left
without resources. Bill Myers, Arnie Levine
and Skip Corder have keys to our supply
room. My hubby has my keys and out personal radios which he would give to a trained
CERT member of our team. He has a list of
who is trained. All CERT-trained CVERTers
have been shown out supplies and operational protocols. Without me here in an
emergency there is still coverage to help the
residents.
Hi Everyone,
Check the link below to meet Michelle
Cotton, our local farmer who grows all our
eggs that you love! This is a short video
of here history as a farmer. Her urban
farm is loaded with herbs, veggies and
critters. Several residents purchase her
eggs and other natural/organic products.

BINGO REPORT
Our June session of Bingo drew an enthusiastic
group of over 20 players. We had the most split
games ever. Those sharing winning pots were:
Jackie Smith, Robin Varbel, Bill Gooden, Jessica
Larson, Karen Lampert, Tim McDermott, Daniel
Foladare, Linda Lesser and Renee Rockey. Individual winners were Casey Wheat and again
Renee Rockey. The first coverall was won by
Francesca Calle who is saving her money for college; the second coverall was won by Linda
Lesser. No one won the powerball so that rolls
over until our next game. In Skip Corders absence, Arnie Levine set up the tables, chairs and
bingo equipment, Scott Wimmer assisted with the
PA system and Susan Levine (with a little help
from Tommy Janes and Patrick Wheat) called the
games. Renee Rockey and Shirley Michel served
as money collectors. Refreshments were provided
by a host of players (hopefully I don’t forget anyone) including Linda Lesser, Leslie Reuter, Karen
Lampert, Donna Cook and Renee Rockey..
There recently was an article in the Calabasas
Patch about a local boy being bitten by a rattlesnake. Over the years there have been occasional
snake sightings her in the park.
Basically, you need to use caution when outdoors.
Keep your eyes open. Stay away if you see one.
Report it to the park office if there is one on your
property. If bitten seek medical treatment right
away.
Here are a couple websites with information on
what to do and what not to do.

We won’t be having Bingo in July, August or
September. Watch for the date of our next session
which will be announced in the Chatter. Remember, Bingo is open to all residents and their
guests. Beginners are always welcome. 4 cards
for a dollar and an extra .25 for powerball. Light
refreshments are provided by the players and coffee and tea supplied by CVHOA.
