Transects are done with structured walks through typical village landscape. Such walks can cover part of the village or the entire village, taking an hour or up to some hours. Transects consist of two elements: the walk and a diagram that records the information of the walks. Objectives: Identify typical land use types and their characteristics. It also helps villagers of the community to be aware of their effort passing each period of their recent history. Draw a line on A0 paper. One end of the line will be „now‟. Explain to the households that this is the History Line Ask the households to recall key events (positive and negative) throughout history (from the earliest to now) and the year they occurred. Objectives: Find out general information and important events in the recent village history. Identify important events that brought about some economic, social, cultural etc change in the village. Change in agricultural trend due to these events. The primary concern is not to develop an accurate map but to get useful information about local perceptions of resources. The VDAP members should further develop and detail the content of the map according to what is important to them. Objectives: To learn the villagers' perception of what natural resources are found in the community and how they are used.
